Crosman 180 tube options

I can't exactly find the answer to this question after searching the web.

Will a QB79 air tube work in my Crosman 180?  I see the potential issues for barrel band and the like but I'm thinking about valve alignment, trigger, transfer port.  My 180 is the "safety in trigger guard" variant.

Can't stop thinking about a 180 with regulated Ninja bottle.

Hmm, I've about decided qb tube won't work.  Too many different parts like bolt and hammer.

I just bought a 180 off of Gunbroker (I am an addict for these older CO2 AG's). They apparently can be made pretty hot on just the one cart with some work. What work? I don't fully know yet, but another Vintage fanatic on the GTA (Rob) had one for sale I missed out on that shot hot, in the high 600's, as a FYI.

I am getting the same variant with the safety in the guard.

I'm just thinking on air you would get so many consistent shots, two power settings that are adjustable with that nifty preload adjuster, nice trigger......
It could be the "perfect" air rifle. 

Trying to b funny there as we all know the only perfect rifle is the next rifle.

One thing too is the older AG's are usually pretty powerful for their age and time. If yours is shooting in the 600's with 14 grain pellets, man that is decent IMO. Plenty of power for pests and can killing.

I am not against modifying them but I do prefer they LOOK stock. The Crosman 150's I have have both been worked and the one shoots in the low 400's fps on full power on a 80 degree day.  The other one didn't respond as well to being tuned and shoots in the 350-370 range.

When I get the 180 I'll see if it works first and then decide what to do, but if I mine shoots like yours on full power I'll just leave it be

I agree completely with looking stock and feeling stock.  In fact, the feel is what will likely keep my 180 in nearly stock form.  It's such a wonderfully light and compact rifle that I hate to give it a weight gain and loose ballance.  I say nearly stock because I did order a new ołd stock barrel for it that has scope grooves.  A scope mounted directly to grooves sounded too good to pass up.  Plus, then I can use my Ron Robinson mounts on my CR400, another cool classic.

Love those scopes. 

I guess some or all of the 180s made for sears were grooved for scope rings.  I believe it's a sears barrel that I have coming....I hope.

I'll sure do it.  I must say though, I'm nearly certain I've seen 180s on here with the Sears grooved barrel.  I'll still post em up cause it makes me feel cool.

This 180 has a NOS Sears barrel and a bulk-fill tube extension from Mac1.  It's the most accurate gun I own.

What's the shot count like with extended tube and bulk?

I understood the end cap threads were different but didn't realize wall thickness was different.

It's not a lot, Crosman is 0.875" OD x 0.065" wall.... the QB is 22mm x 1.5mm wall.... which works out to 0.866" OD x 0.059" wall.... The ID is very close, Crosman is 0.745", the QB is 0.748", all sizes nominal....

cclingma, on a good fill I get well over 100 shots at low power.  JSB 15.9 just over 500 fps.  It shoots the same pellet up around 600 at "full cock".  Did you order your barrel from Numrich?  Hope you get a good one, I had to return one I got from them, it had no dovetails and... no rifling!  By the way, I scoped a 400 with Ron Robinson mounts, they work great.

I did prefer barrel from Numrich.  I hope it's a good one too.  I'm too anxious to have to send it back.

Here is another 180 I modded with a dovetailed barrel and a tube from a model 400 I found on ebay.  Takes two CO2 carts instead of just one.  I much prefer a 180 over a 160.  They don't shoot quite as hard but get better "gas mileage", are more versatile with the selective power.

I just got a 180 as part of a package deal. Haven't spent much time looking into the gun and options but this thread is going to change that! Seems like there's a lot out there to explore.....great just another turn in the rabbit hole lol

My first airgun was a 180, back in the late '60s. It was the reason I am into Crosman co2 guns now.
I don't know why you would want to put a QB79 tube on it. Why not just get a tank block from JDS? Or a bulk fill cap and mount the tank with a short hose; that way you wouldn't even have to modify the original tube.

I was just thinking the QB79 tube would take a tank block with no modding and allow the gun to operate on air (at CO2 pressures) while being a completely reversable mod.  Have sense come to understand that only the Crosman 400 and 180 share tubes.

I think those JDS tank blocks require cutting off the threaded portion of air tube and drilling.  I'm not ready to commit to irreversible modding on this rifle if that's the case?

Bulk to hose would be pretty cool for some applications.  This little rifle is destined to be a walkabout rifle due to its compact size and handiness and therefore I would like to keep it all contained to the gun.

I am thinking, just a little, about trying to make a drop down tank block that would thread to existing crosman tube.  Seems these have been available at times.  It would be a project at the limit of my skill and tool set but I like challenges.  I would of course come here and beg for help to determine whether what I concocted was safe.
