Extreme .457 100 yard testing

[Extreme Big Bore]

Daryl Dickey was out testing his Extreme .457 at 100 yards with a 150 grain Mr Hollow point bullet and send me the results and I was amazed at the results of the 150 grain. 3 shots per fill 3600 PSI 1st 1134 2ND 1128 3rd 1090 FPS. 1st shot 442 2ND shot 438 3rd shot 409 FPE. These number were very impressive to me then he sent me a text message of the groups they were a true clover leaf for the first three shots at 100 yards. Less than .5 inch center to center groups at a 100 yards with this kind of speed was impressive to me. I have not considered using the 150 grain for big game so I have never tested them much but with numbers and accuracy like this I would recommend anyone that owns one of our .457 rifles definitely give it a try for deer sized game this kind of speed and energy should do a great job. I will post pictures of the group later.

I have a 165 gr hollow point that I shoot out of mine that does pretty well.havent shot the numbers on it but they expand well so I know their moving at a good speed.

   Man, I'm gonna have to contact Mr. HP and get some. I tried the 155 at higher pressures 4000 and up which were ok. At 3600psi is the ticket this is perfect for predator hunting and deer size game. My Extreme .457 shoot very tight groups with Mr. HP 280 and RJ Porter  .457ammo not sure of the grain on the RJ Porter ammo. So the 155gr is a nice all around slug.

hi men am going to have to say there has been a miss print that is my fault, brent was posting info that i had sent him and i checked the text i had sent and type o,was my fault, the fill psi was 4600 ,i have been doing alot of testing lately and wanted to work something up for coyote,i mostly shoot 250s-280s but wanted to cut down on my arc,i did not think they would group that well i kept walking up to target to believe what i was seeing,,3 touching and 4th 1 1/2 low and in line.guys all i have done to my extreme .457 is readjusted and polished timmney trigger, wheeler fire lapped barrel ,and messed with my spring a whole lot.i am a hunter and shot placement to me is paramount,thanks bob and brent.have killed loads of big game.

if you guys want a  moose /elk and dear bullet ... accurate molds has them ... they are flat nose and will put more knock down power ...down range than any hollow point will ... 464-25b is the mold you want http://www.accuratemolds.com/catalog.php?page=13     this was is 425 g give or take depending on how you have the mold sized

   also the casull 45-340b http://www.accuratemolds.com/catalog.php?page=11  this one is around 350 g

I would slug/size  your barrel to get the right bullet sizer to run them through after casting ... you can try shooting them right out of the mold to ... sometimes a guy will get lucky and they will shoot good with out sizing them .

these heavy bullets will usually be more accurate down range ... if you can get these up 850fps or more like my 36 barrel xp ranger does .. you will see they shoot real flat and keep the fps up down range better than the lighter stuff does .

  well let me think ....I live in the about the most dense rain forest in the USA ... Washougal Washington area is where I hunt around a bit ..... I guess I figure if you can't even hall 12-15 lbs super gun +lead it shoots  threw the forest  .... you should not be there in the first place .... 56 inch's long..... is what this xp airguns 45 ranger is ... and that is with the custom pistol grip  tiger wood laminate Richards microfit stock ..... it's really not that hard ....

and to be honest most of the time I shoot and most of us shoot  ..... we are in one place plinking at targets ...usually with a couple tables out with a bunch of guns lined up to shoot .... maybe I should build a stock so I shoot it like a rocket launcher /laws rocket ... HA ! HA ! 

this thing does shoot like one of the guns from Navarone !  it's something you will not forget when you consider that it is and air gun ..pushing a 400+ g chunk of lead out past 900fps ..... I am going to do some testing with new springs and 5000 psi and maybe more to see just how much faster I can push the 416 g

I know the feeling and I love it. My .72 Extreme pushes a 735 grain hollow point just shy of 990fps when I have my 4500psi Helium spring installed. Right now it's detuned to shoot around 1000ft/lbs with a 535 grain slug and a 3500psi charge of helium and it's only 42" long.  I'd love to see what that XP would do with helium! I bet the helium and that big Ole long barrel would produce some crazy high ft/lb numbers.

I know I wish my shoebox compressor would pump helium out ! HA ! HA ! .72 extreme  is a canon for sure ! ..I would love to shoot that one you have .... me being totally honest with you ... the springs that are in my gun now do a great job and can get quite a few shots by starting out high power 4350 psi 3 shots 416 g  then mid power  3 shots 348 g  then drop to mid or low   power 4 shots 255g then I use round ball 140g for more shots ..crazy thing is it shoots a bunch of round ball after all that ... all on one air charge .... I have not seen another big bore 45  that has this many shots... I think Dan Mcvey went out of bizz xp airguns .. I can't get ahold of him.. I was thinking about getting another gun from him ...

those extreme guns look real nice ... a 308 cal extreme would be interesting to have and casting my own bullets it would not take as much lead as the big bores ..I just wonder what kind of shot count you could get ? .... Hatsan is coming out with the hurcules with a 1000 dual bottle  air ..multi shot mag in 17-45   cal  the 30 cal in that one might be good .. I just don't know how much room in the mag there is for cast bullets that I would like to use ... my at44 long 25 shoots a ragged hole at 50.
