my two cents... Jonnyboy has the right Idea, get out couple of your shooters(not youre best guns) and invite them over for some target shooting....push the Safety Issue and hope for the best... being that I am one of them Irresponisble Rednecks I believe he is right....( I finally grew up at age 48!! but I will deny it in public!!)

Reading the comments, I'm lead to believe that just because a guy does a dumb thing or two when young...or is slow to mature doesn't mean he's necessarily a problem nor that you can't find common ground with.
The flip side is, I DON'T wanna be pickin' out china patterns or anything with this guy. :O
LOL!

When hunting zombie starlings, there are two approaches. The first approach is the "Double-Tap". The alternative is cutting their heads off and putting toothpicks through their hearts.
It's your choice.

I am late to this post, but I also like the idea of teaching shooting and shooting safety to the kid, as a back door to opening a discussion with the young daddy. There has to be some way to relate the damage a bb can do to the limited number of organs you are issued at birth. Maybe shooting hot dogs and plums, and relating to human fingers and eyes, would help?
Hope you don't get kicked in the avuncles for your efforts.
I always think you
can
fix stupid, it's just REALLY stupid that you can't fix. A little education goes a long way. I admire your sense of civic responsibility and will be interested to see how it turns out.
For the record I also indulged in a few bb gun wars at about 14 or so. We were all very lucky but it was ridiculously stupid.

The Landlord might be interested in the situation. Depending on what state you live in, there might be some serious insurance liability here. It could turn into an immediate eviction.

I would come down on them like rain.
A few months ago a few kids in my neighborhood got some crappy airsoft pistols. I was driving home and saw about 8 of them having a little shoot out on my street. No eye protection or anything.
So naturally I figured I might as well make it dramatic. So I went inside and got my gun. Went out side and after setting them straight with "enthusiastic" conversation I gave them gun use 101 and then showed them my KWA SR12 and let them shoot a little bit with it at my target.
They still have firefights on my street.....that doesn't please me. All we need is a cop to see that and it would be *(&^.
At least they ALWAYS wear eye protection!

Last month in Charleston WV (well at least WV) a 19 yr old was shot in the head and died from the injury. It was a pellet gun, though they never did report which model. You may want to try to look it up and use the facts of the shooting death to your advantage...in a good way.

BB Gun Wars, boy those where fun right up till the time I lost my eye. I was hit in the eye with a BB and it has been I life long mistake. I was 16 and new better. Never saw another thing out of that eye. BB guns not so good.
Bad neighbors not so good.
Good Luck
