New member looking for a scope.

Hello to all, I am a new member to the forum so please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this. I am brand new to the pellet gun world, having recently purchased a Gamo Whisper Turbo in 22 cal. I am looking for a decent scope that won't break the bank. I have on it currently a Leupold with Leupold rings, but I saw on a different post that due to the different recoil on spring guns that it can damgae even the most expensive scopes. Now the rifle I have has the Gamo IGT spring, does that make a difference? I  plan on mainly using it for plinking and varmint control as well as possible some hunting ( squirrels mostly and possibly raccoons).

Hi, and welcome to the GTA!!  It is my understanding all Leupold scopes are fine on airguns.  I would confirm with them.  At the very least I suggest a one piece mount if you aren't using one already.

All springers (coil spring and gas strut) have the characteristic double recoil.  Most scopes are designed with recoil from only one direction.

If you elect to get a different scope in the future ensure it is rated to hold up to a spring airgun.  If in doubt contact the scope company itself, not the seller.  The scope company makes the final determination on warranty status.

I happen to like Hawke scopes but others swear by UTG, Center Point, Sun, Leapers, and others.  It's a preference thing.

I know I beat around the bush but I hope your question got answered somewhere in there.

Donivan, yeah get that Leupold scope off of there before you muck it up from the recoil. Talk to uglymike about his scope for sale, call or take a drive over to Solon & visit Pyramyd Air. Either way, get an airgun rated scope for your Gamo.

Your Leupold should be fine.  Only problem is the parallax correction is probably set for typical high-power centerfire rifle distances.  Leupold will reset it for you if you want to. 
Since the scope costs probably twice what the rifle does, I personally would find another rifle to put it on and use one of the scopes suggested in previous replies.  The guy in this link uses Leupold on all his springers with no issues.  They are made to take any recoil.

Thanks for the helpful info everyone especially about the double recoil. I definitely will be ordering that scope off of amazon next paycheck, and save the Leupold for one of my powder burners.

I have the Hammers scope & mount mentioned on the Amazon site. Easy setup, easy adjustments, very clear & holds zero well. All together an excellent value. I purchased & mounted it 1 year ago and have shot ~750 pellets using it (the AO markings appear different from when I bought mine).
Be aware that the numbers printed on the Adjustable Objective are not accurate on mine. A simple paint dot will fix this when you measure off distance to zero it.

I've also got this combo. The scope stop pin on mine has sheared flush after only about 100 shots or so, however. Currently working on seeing if they'll replace the mount (not a big deal if they won't, mounts are cheap enough). Scope is good quality, especially for the price.
