Hey guys...
Just wanted to know what you think. I'm new to air guns, but have been doing a lot of research. I recently purchased a Benji NP2 from Amazon. I ran about 700 rounds in that one and finally came to the realization there's something defective. It continues to diesel even after 700 rounds, which probably explains its erratic POI. I called Crosman and they confirmed.

Amazon sent me a replacement. I just got the replacement. Unboxed and gave it a good look all around. Without cocking it or firing a single round, I noticed the break barrel has a tiny wee bit of play vertically once in it's locked position. I still have the other NP2 so I checked that one for reference and that one is locked solid - no play at all.

Since its easy enough to return this one, do you think I should just go that route and get yet another replacement? I think I know my answer (return it), but just wanted to double check.

Coincidentally, I just read another thread here where this guy had to get three NP2 to be issue free outta the box.

My Brother's XL had the same problem, sent it back on warranty, came back better than it was. You can fix it yourself but I would send it back.

2 exact rifles in a row NIB with issues......I'd ask for a refund and buy something else.

I would send it back.

My NP2 was good NIB, and is a great rifle after a tune.

I bought mine as a 2nd gen from PA, but wonder if your supplier has a stock of defective or older gen?

This mirrors my experience trying to obtain a decent NP2. I went through three of them - different issues each time - before just asking for a refund and buying an R9.

Ok gang... got my 3rd NP2 from Amazon. I bought this at Amazon at $170, so I really wanted this to work out since that seemed like a good deal. So I'm giving it another chance. And BTW, since its Amazon, its completely zero hassle - no shipping fees, etc. Gotta love Amazon!

Anyway... I have fired about a hundred rounds through this 3rd one. And...
I AM PLEASED.
3rd time is the charm I guess. Unlike like the first one this thing quieted down pretty quickly. So seems to be settling down ... dieseling is settling down. In the latter part of the first hundred rounds, there was a couple of shots were it seemed louder AND the POI was a totally flyer and out of group. Not sure what that was, but hopefully it's just still settling down. This is my first air rifle (spring/gas, etc). So I'm not sure how completely free of "smoke" it will be. But at this point, I still see traces of smoke coming out of the barrel after each round.

Regardless... I am able to get 1/2 inch grouping at 10 yards at this point (5 shot groupings), something I couldn't do with the 1st NP2 (even in 3 shot). Without the previous issues being a factor, I've been able to focus on how I need to hold this thing and that's helped tremendously in tightening up the grouping - not to mention a whole lot funner. And this 3rd rifle's trigger is SOOOO much better than the 1st (never shot the 2nd rifle at all). But WOW, I really like the trigger (ever out of the box). Very pleased with it - smooth all the way to the 2nd stage. Hopefully after another hundred rounds and more consistency in my hold, I'll get that tighter at 10yards.

My remaining issue with this rifle is how HIGH my POI is. I don't think this "barrel droop" (as I've read) - that seems like the opposite problem. I'm using the stock scope mounts this came with, but I've replaced the cheap CP scope (that came with it) with my NS Night Eater. With my NS optically centered (via clicks), my POI is about 2 inches above the crosshairs (at 10 yards). So that's alot of clicks if I'm going to try to fix this with just my elevation turret. And I've learned that this NS scope doesn't like more than 40 clicks off center - the reticle seems to be bouncing around at that point and my POI goes all over the place.

I'm hoping a few micro meter of shimming will finally end this saga and I can finally "focus" on those pesky squirrels! But any feedbacks would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Steel Eagle NP2 and a Trail NP2, on both, I bent the barrel to match POA at twenty yards. For mine, 1.1" high at twenty puts it dead on at forty.

I'd try it at 25 or 30 yards. No sense in carryin a big ole long gun like that around to just shoot 10 yards.
But congrats on finally getting a good one. I've been curious about a spring piston rifle for a few years now.

Yup, planning on taking her out to 25 yards and see I she groups. But with the issues I was having with the 1st rifle, I had to set up my targets at 10 yards just to figure out what was going on.

But here's an update... as I was wrapping up target shooting for the day, Mr Pesky Squirrel came by again to visit the feeder (at 25 yards). Up until now, I didn't have the confidence to take a shot and ensure a headshot. But after the group I was getting, I decided to go for it.

Bam! He's down. Went down like a Mike Tyson upper cut - tail went limp instantly. After a few seconds past, it started twitching, which I think is just postmortem nerves. And upon a closer look found bloody ears and nose, so I think it was definitely a clean headshot at 25 yards.

I had been watching a bunch of squirrel hunting videos just to make sure I did this right. And I think I did. Hopefully things stay zero'd in because there's a lot more of these tree rats eating at my house sidings.

I am curious ; Amazon will just ship you a new gun without returning the old one ? Seems like an open door for unscrupulous activity . I could just contact them and say the gun is defective when its not - then I could have 2 for the price of 1 !!?

I don't think it quite works that way. They already have your credit card info on hand. I suspect they either charge you for the second gun when they ship then give you credit when the old gun is received, or charge your account for a second gun if the old one is not received within a specified number of days.

When you file for a return they will give you a shipping label via UPS. Once you bring your package, with the included label, to have it sent out, it lets Amazon knows that a package was indeed sent out. Once Amazon receives the package and confirms the product is inside they notify you that they've received it, and the return/refund transaction is complete. If anything is amiss, you will be required to correct it........otherwise, you will ultimately be charge for a 2nd product.

Sorry to hear about your issues, Leo. I own two Benji NP2 rifles (a .22 and a .177 SBD), and I love 'em! Smooth cocking, quiet, and very accurate. The triggers could be a lot better, but I've adapted to it. The only issue I've had, was due to my own fault. On my .22, I inadvertently slipped, one time during cocking, and the barrel went flying back to the loaded position. This was enough to cause an upward bent in the barrel........causing the opposite issue of a "droop". I've tried many ways to straighten out the barrel, but to no avail. At this point, I'm planning on eventually just order a new dang barrel.
