Hey guys,

Can you Name me your Top3 Scopes for Hunter Field Target in Price Ranges

1. to 500 Dollars
2. to 1000 Dollars
3. over 1000 Dollars

I want to buy me a new one in 2016, but i cant decide me ...

Andi;

This is Hector Medina.

While I would LOVE to sell you one of the "Special Sightrons" we built for Hunter Division under AAFTA rules, I do have to ask if YOU shoot under AAFTA rules or if you want to shoot under UKHFT rules.

The differences are so big as to warrant completely different scopes:

- Under AAFTA rules (scope set at 12X or next lower magnification, focusing and rangefinding allowed, and lit reticles allowed to be set on and off along the course), yes the Sightron is your best bet for any kind of FT.

- Under UKHFT rules (NO TOUCHING the scope once you have started the course), then you need a different scope; for this application I would suggest the ADE Advanced Optics FFP 6-25X50 scope .

If you want more detailed instructions, let me know through the contact page of the website. I will help you as much as I can.

That would be part of it, yes!

If we can get a model designation for it, then we will be able to see it as part of the Sightron lineup.

I will visit your Homepage after Christmas. I want to have time to read your tests and everything you have there.

I want to shoot under UKHFT rules. I think that means 10x-zoom max, don´t touch the Parallaxe for range finding? These are the rules which are used in Germany/Austria.

What is the nearest range in Meters on which the scope is clear at 10x zoom? (sorry for my bad english)

If you go to the Blog (not the "Products Blog") on my website and select the entries for May 2015 you will come across two entries titled 'A Special Scope designed for US Shooters' parts I and II.

The ADE scope, when the magnification is set to around 11X and the parallax is set at around 33 meters (36 yards) will be in reasonable focus between 18 and 41 meters (20 and 45 yards). You would need to test with YOUR eyes to see what are the parameters you need to input to maximize YOUR results, but these numbers give you a starting point.

I prefer to have a good reading of the long shots than the short ones, but that is just me. Again, this is just a suggestion based on what little I know of UKHFT.

AFaIK, there is no magnification maximum in the rules. The 10X is the "practical common knowledge" that has worked for many shooters with traditional scopes, but the ADE is FAR from a traditional airgun scope. So, as long as you have good eyes and as long as you SET AND FORGET your scope before the Match starts you WILL COMPLY with WFHTA/UKHFTA Rules.

I shot in the 2013 WFTF WeltMeisterschaft in Ebern. So I know that BOTH forms of FT are shot in Germany/Austria. I have really good friends at the Steyr Company and commend your choice on a repeating airgun.

For #1 I found that my 3-12x44 Optisan Viper to be really good for scope rangefinding at 12x max. I also have a 4-12x50 Aeon that has a good image, about the most "flare free" image when sitting and shooting on a lane in direct sun, however the image doesn't really "snap in and out" with my eyes and if I do 3 separate rangefinds at the same position I'll get 3 different distances. The Viper snaps in and out crisply and when focusing at 30 yards (my zero distance) the marks on the sidewheel always line up properly to the pointer. I used a 4-12x40 Vortex Diamondback with AO and it was a rather good HFT scope that was relatively small and light weight, would rangefind pretty consistently with my eyes, however my example exhibited extreme flare when sitting on a lane in direct sun. Matter of fact, this flare was so bad that on some lanes the image was completely washed out even with a sunshade. It seemed that the flare was coming through the eyepiece instead of the "big end" but regardless it wasn't suitable for shooting in direct sunlight. The Diamondback also had an annoying "ping" with every shot sitting on my R9 springer.

As far as flare is concerned, the Viper isn't as flare free as the Aeon but still useable and I have found the Viper illuminated reticle to be of use when aiming at a dark target set in a dark lane. The Aeon has no illuminated reticle and this "feature" coupled with the rather fine reticle made aiming at a dark target in a dark lane a challenge for sure!

The only issue I have with the 3-12x44 Viper is that it's a rather large heavy scope to put on my R9/HW95 and I had to shorten the sunshade about 1/2" to get the thing to fit on my HW95 receiver with a good eye relief and still cock the barrel. The HW95 with the Viper and shortened sun shade is on the right..........

Those that have used the larger 4-16x50 Optisan Viper turned down to 12x claim that it's a better HFT scope than the 3-12x44, however the 3-12 is already heavier and larger than I like!

If you say "HFT" in the USA, they think you are talking about AAFTA Hunter Division. Hector pointed out, the scope requirements are a lot different.

Oh yes you are right. I think i created a missunderstanding.

I meant HFT= Hunter Field Target (Rules like: max. 10x-Zoom, no adjusting at Parallaxe after the beginning of the contest etc.)

I am sorry, you explained so good, this was my fault.

I think scopes like the one from grimeszee are the right ones for that...

Weight=658 grams

I think there is more misunderstanding here, The rules for HFT are max magnification is 12x and no zero click adjustments after match starts. The parallax is for focusing and range estimating, so the answer to your question is 10 meters at max 12x zoom. with an AO scope you would not be able to compete without adjusting the parallax wheel to focus and range your target.

The misunderstanding is that the scope rules for AAFTA Hunter Division are not HFT rules.

AAFTA Hunter Division:
Focusing and magnification adjustment is allowed. Scopes may not be varied over 12x magnification. And you can't adjust the turrets during the match.

HFT:
Any size scope. Any magnification. You can't make ANY scope adjustments once the match starts.

There is no magnification limit in HFT. Most choose around 10x +/- because it works best for HFT. I would also use a smaller objective as it allow lower scope mounting which is a benefit for the close targets.

And thanks grimeszee! 658g is not much for a 3-12x Zoom. Have to think about this Scope if i don´t find another which has less weight.
