I realize I have not been terribly active for awhile now. Life has been kicking my butt and gobbling up every minute of every day...  However, some of y'all may remember I have a huge passion for hunting fox squirrels. Some of the reason is sentimental, some is because they have so much more meat than grays offer and some of my passion is due to the fact there are none around me.

I forget the details but somehow my passion for fox squirrels and my membership on this forum led me to befriend our good friend BICYCLEMAN, aka Big Mikey G. We live approx three hours away but occasionally my job takes me his direction.  Naturally he has 2 or 3 fox squirrels in the woods he has access to hunt.

Yesterday I had the rare fortune of being able to join him on a hunt. In addition this was the first real outing of my relatively new new Benjamin Trail NP2 coupled with the Ungodly expensive .22 Polymags.

We were in the woods for less than 15 minutes when the first fox nutter apeared from approx 20 yards out and 20 feet up I sent an ungodly expensive Polymag screaming above her head at a MV of 875fps.  Knowing my mistake I lowered the scope by a couple clicks, reloaded and began searching for the old girl. After a moment she popped her head out on the opposite side of the tree. I held a little lower and sent ungodly expensive pellet #2 screaming her way. This time the higly expensive wad of lead and plastic found its soft, fleshy mark. There was no doubt when I heard the wonderful "THWOCK!"  During her death throws she almost became hung-up in a limb, but her last kick was sufficient to bring her to the ground.

A few minutes later I had the fortune of sending another ridiculously expensive polymag at a MV of 875 fps at a second fox nutter. I heard the wonderful "thwock" and prepared to collect #2. This fella ran to the other side of the tree and disappeared. I searched and searched only to determine that nutter owes me an expensive pellet. I never found him so I assume he's carrying 2 .22LR's worth of polymag in his shoulder.

After that I harassed a nutter that was out of range by sending $9.00 worth of polymags (3-6 pellets) at him/her. It wasn't long after that I realized I shot $46.00 worth of polymags (7-10 pellets). Not wanting to file bankruptcy Mike and I decided to call it a day.

When we returned we cleaned my nutter and threw her in my low-rent homemade Yeti ice chest. Mike then disappeared and returned with a couple ziploc bacs full of fresh fox nutters. It turns out a good hunter is capable of filling his freezer using standard pellets. A great hunter uses standard pellets and runs out of freezer space halfway through the season...

With that being said, thank you Mike for puting up with me. I truly enjoy our hunts, even when I send $75.00 worth of polymags to take one nutter... 😂

Thanks Dave.  It was the best hunt I had all season.  Why?  Because I got to share it with a friend.  Hunting alone is everything it is cracked up to be.
That woods is being very productive this year.  I am waiting for your next visit - don't be a stranger.

Oh, thanks for that handful of "ridiculously expensive polymags" you gave me to try.  Those must have cost you about $125.00.

Nice narrative and glad you brought one home. It's amazing to me to know that as hard as those polymags hit a squirrel stayed up in the tree. Wouldn't that be like you or me getting hit w/a hollow point the size of a baseball? Walk it off.

Indeed. Prevously I had only shot two gray squirrels with the polymags. Both were instant kills with shocking volumes of blood loss. The only thing I can figure is that this fox nutter survived long enough to nest-up before expiring.

Dave, naturally I jest at the cost of the Polymags. They perform quite nicely but I'm too cheap to get over the fact they cost more than bulk .22LR rounds. 😁
