Do Match Grade Pellets Deliver?

It's a pretty straight forward question. Do they drastically out perform your typical Walmart fare? I'd like to hear your opinions and experiences regarding match grade pellets.

If you mean by the standard H&N and JBS line I can say: YES!

The 1377 I have loves RWS Superdomes of JBS pellets, but I have some Crosman super points form Wal-Mart and it shoots those the same . Only AG I have that the cheaper pellets work in so far.

I've just had dismal luck in using the cheaper pellets.

 If you have a match grade gun then yes, if not don't expect match grade performance. You need to try many different types of pellets to find out which your gun likes and will perform best accuracy. The match grade may or not out perform the el cheap o in your gun, it's the gun's choice not yours. I don't buy match grade pellets, but recommend quality pellets over Chinese stuff!

In my opinion the better known pellet brands are more consistent in size.  If a certain brand or type of pellet shoots great.  It may or may not be as good on the next purchase depending on the batch number.  Saying that I haven't heard of to much of these problems with RWS, H&n, and JSB pellets.
I have heard of this problem with the Crosman pellets.  The tins may come from various batches so sizes may vary.  The boxed pellets are way more expensive because they come from the same batch.  But I have heard that different different batches can be different.
I have no comment on the really expensive match pellets.  I don't shoot in competitions but there must be something to them.  JMO

3 1/2"x3 1/2" steel plate. Distance is 218'. I do quite well at hitting this target, at this distance. I'm going for a "perfect" 10 out of 10. To date the best I've done, has been 7 in a row. I'm usually good for 4 in a row.

    Dave that is pretty good shooting. what kind of pellets and gun are you using. remember match grade pellets mostly are wad cutters almost useless at the range you are shooting. they call JSB exact pellets match but are really not and they are domed

A 3.5in target at a little over 70 yards does not require premium pellets but it would likely improve your consistency when taken as part of the overall system of rifle, shooter, trigger, rest, optics, etc.

They are an affordable commodity so I heartily recommend you try some domed pellets from JSB, Air Arms, or H&N.

Mista Meener brings up a good point, "match" is often equated to wadcutter (flat-nosed) pellets.  No wadcutter on the planet is a good choice for shooting at 70 yards .  But the term is also used more generally to denote a higher grade pellet.  In that context, it's like any other marketing term...an outright lie at worst or an embellishment at best.  Please do not waste your money on Gamo match pellets.  Do put your money on a domed pellet from JSB or H&N.

Thanks for the responses guys. The pellet rifle is one I've had for years. I hadn't really shot more than 500 rounds through it, till about a year and a half ago. Since then I've put thousands through it. I really couldn't hazed a guess. 9-11 tins a month. It was a cheap way to get some trigger time. And not have to leave the porch! Well at first it sucked. Or maybe, I sucked. I couldn't tell. But I was determined to find out. Thousands of pellets later; my Crosman Storm XT is a darling. Either I broke her in; or she broke me. Either way. We shoot much better than I might expect, if I'd only read about it.
For the longest time, I was using Crosman Premier Hollow Points. I thought they were pretty okay. My best string was 4. And 3's came pretty regularly. Then; (and this is a story in and of itself) I got some RWS Superdome, 8.3gr. pellets. At that point this pellet gun "came alive". I still think with my new scope; she'll give me my 10.

I like superdomes, but get some JSB 8,44gr or H&N and ill bet you get your 10.

Something to look out for when buying online.  JSB pellets don't ship well.  Meaning the lead is soft and damage easily.  Need to buy from a vendor that packs them well like Pyramyd Air.  I also bought some from Mac1 with no problems of damage.
Some H&N pellets come in different head sizes.  So if you need to make sure of the head size when checking out.
Amazon sometimes has great prices on RWS pellets.  Haven't had problems with damage.  Could be that the lead is harder and the tins come with a card.  Must say Amazon has the worst packing.  JMO
