Targets, critters or both? Probably the 125/.22 is a better choice for 50+ yards. Personally, I go with the 135 in .22, it has a little more power and a nice walnut stock instead of the plastic one on the 125. I had to return a 125TH due to the stock cracking. The .22's have higher velocity an shoot flater at that range.

I have decided on a Hatsan but deciding on the one.

I've got the Striker 1000x vortex in .22, 95 vortex in .22 and 135 vortex in .25. I got the .25 last and my next gun for sure is going to be another .22 (hopefully the 135 qe if it's available soon!).

The .22 is just cheaper, faster, flatter trajectory.  Still, there is something satisfying about the loudness of the .25 hitting a target.

I vote .22!

Another thought: I stayed away from .177 AG's for quite a while due to bad experiences with El Cheapo Chinese guns. However, since I've acquired a Diana 52, a Hatsan 95 and 135 in .177 my thinking is coming around. For game the size of what you mentioned, the 135 will sling heavy .177 ammo (10.5gr+) at 1000+ fps with an fpe of around 27. It shoots really flat past 40 yards and as long as strong wind isn't a factor it's dead on. Might be a bit light for skunks, but plenty of smack down for smaller critters. Also the ammo is dirt cheap for plinking and target practice compared to .25

I have a .22 Hatsan 135.  For me these mattered:

• Cheaper pellets (yeah, I"m that cheap) 
• Pellet availability and selection (.25 pellets are harder to find locally)
• Flatter trajectory (my assumption is that .22 wins here)
• Paper does not care if it is being punched by  .22 or .25 (I don't hunt)

If you're looking at refurbs they've got a .25 and .22 in the 125. I added the tune job to my 95 when I got it from them and it shoots great.

The 125 and 135 have more power than the 95 and will shoot farther, just a matter of which caliber you want. Either one will do the job with good shot placement, the .25 will just start dropping off sooner than the .22 because of pellet weight...although like dw said, there's a certain satisfaction the hearing that .25 pellet hit.

$219.95 for a refurb 125/.22 vortex (bare rifle) seems a bit steep. I think both Field Supply and Midway had the springer for around $120 and the gas ram for around $160 recently. These refurbs seem to come up on special pretty regularly if you keep you eyes out for them.

If youre dead set on those two models get the 125. Its got more power. I don't know if it will have enough in the tank to kill a chuck at that range tho.

I've taken both raccoon and woodchuck inside 30 yards with my 95 .25 Vortex, farther than that I'd rather have the power of the 125 or 135. I've never tried farther so don't honestly know if the 95 has the power to reach out and get a kill shot.

I think I'll go with a 135 or 125 in a .22 cal  vortex piston and heavy pellets. prefer a 135 but to find a referb at a good price. A wood stock is a must.

If it's 50 to 70 the .25 is OK but past that it drops off quick (targets never shot anything those rangers) from a 30 yard zero shooting from an elevated position its like half a mil low at 50 a mil and a half low at 70 then at 100 its probably about 9 and a half mils low from my experience any ways I don't know exactly how many because I was having to use the center of my bottom post to make any hits. The ammo was too expensive for me to justify so I got rid of it but I might get a .22 135at some point as I like the round better. .25 is just too much for a springer in my opinion.

My 2 cents is if you want to shoot larger calibers you need precharged air. The .25 in springers is definitely maxing out that power plant. The low speed doesn't matter much in short distance but without mildot scope a springer .25 is dropping like a stone out there 50 yards. It's almost to the point where you'd need a range finder to know if the skunk is 50 yards or 60 yards as it makes a 2" difference in pellet placement.

I'm not saying a powerful .22 like the 125th isn't going to be dropping but it's not nearly as dramatic in distances most of us hunt. My Walther Talon (same power plant as 125) with 18.13 JSB .22 zeroed at 35 yrds will be a 1/2 mil dot low at 50 yrds and 2.5 mils low at 67 yards (200 ft). At that outer range the wind really comes into play but a heavy .22 tracks true out to 50yrds. 8mph cross wind will push it about an inch. To me the .22 and springer power plant are perfectly suited for one another. It gives max range with heavy pellet accuracy and still packs a punch to kill skunk at 50yrds. It's got the power and accuracy to place a shot in the boiler box and pass through even raccoon inside of 50 yards. The 125th does at least. My Walther is high 800fps with 18grain (30 foot pounds) at muzzle and 650fps bit  under 17 foot pounds at 150 ft. In real word means I get 100% pass through 1/2 inch structural plywood at 125 feet and only about 50% at 200 ft.

I vote 125 or 135 in .22, you'll not regret it. Larger calibers are needing precharged air and my thought there is jump right up to .257 for range or .357 or .45 for medium game at short range.

That is a good price. Are you sure it's the Vortex model? PA has the spring version for $229, Vortex for $269.

If it's the Vortex like your looking for I'd get it!

It's actually 3.3% more air volume displacement over the 125 making it a tad more power though it does have more volume in the ram too so cocking will take more effort. But I'm a waif of a guy and have no problems with these guns so never consider that excepting a good safety from kids trying to use one.
