Umarex Octane Match-Grade-Trigger upgrade

It's official now.  After several months of prototyping, testing in various Octane air rifles and sales.  I'm ready to start making these components for sale to Umarex Octane shooters world wide.

To date, these Match-Grade-Trigger components have been shipped as far as Holland and Switzerland.  All with encouraging reviews. Now I just have to make up another batch.  I've only been making a very few at a time because I considered them still in the testing stages.

The good news is that these Match-Grade-Trigger components have been tested in Umarex Octane clone air rifles like the Ruger-Yukon and basically those air rifles whose trigger group is the same as the Umarex Octane's trigger group.

Pics and instructions will be forthcoming.  I'll be posting in the Classified-Gate once I get all my ducks in a row.  For the time being I just wanted to give all of the Umarex Octane and clone air rifle shooters a heads up first.  There is now a fix for the horrendous factory trigger pull of your air rifle.

It occurred to me after making my Match-Grade-Trigger announcement that I may have to change my user name.

In this overly litigious world we live in, with a User-Name like UmarexOctane,  the folks over at Umarex might get their feathers ruffled is I start selling a trigger upgrade component under that UmarexOctane user name.

I'll have to contact one of the moderators here about doing that before I make to many posts on this forum.  It might get to confusing for those who may be interested in one of these drop-in replacement components.

Thanks to GP2004 and BreakBarrelBen for the interest they've shown. I'm still working on getting my ducks to line up and now this user name change has presented another small obstacle to overcome before pushing forward but it's slowly coming together.

You probably will want to ask about your own gate or posting in the hobbyist classifieds, they take a dim view of selling in the normal gates.

Being a new guy here, I'm not really sure what's considered a "Normal Gate."  I hope this thread didn't come off sounding like a sales pitch.  It was intended more as a heads-up post for the Umarex Octane shooters here on what I hope to be doing in the near future.  I have yet to figure out the nuances of this particular forum.

If it gets overly complicated I'll just keep doing what I've been doing before joining this group of air gunners.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to contact one of moderators or anyone with the authority to help me change my user name.  I'll worry about posting to the appropriate Gate after I've gotten that taken care of.

I'm reluctant to post a price because this Heads-Up thread might then be misconstrued as a sales pitch for these new Match-Grade-Trigger components.

I've been reading some of the rules and regulations laid out by the powers that be on this forum and the more I read, the more complicated it's all beginning to sound.

A while back, I formed a small Yahoo Group dedicated specifically to the Umarex Octane air rifle.  Any and all info pertaining to this air rifle that we've accumulated can be found by visiting that group.

My apologies if I'm sounding kind of evasive to your simple request.  I just don't want any problems with any of your moderators.  According to some of the rules I came across,  I can't post anything in the classifieds until I've posted a certain number of comments or replies so it looks like I have some time to kill before I can post any pertinent information about these Match-Grade-Trigger components.

Keep writing posts then. A lot of people hear could benefit from your trigger component. I know first hand how much it improved my Octane. Besides, posting will help you get more involved with all the other awesome things this forum has to offer. For now maybe people will just send you a pm to get the info you don't feel comfortable posting in this gate. Good luck and enjoy the forum.

I have the Fuel, not the Octane...same trigger in both?? If so, you may have a bit bigger potential audience....the trigger in my Fuel isn't totally bad but the only real adjustment is one small screw and from the little i've found, the only way to make it a little better is to take it out and polish the end so not a whole lot in the way of "adjustment".

I've not seen the trigger group setup of the Fuel air rifle.  If it's the same as the Octane then my Match-Grade-Trigger component should work.  The only other clone air rifle I've really tested it on is the Ruger-Yukon and it worked perfectly.

I made a plexiglass trigger housing in order to show how the trigger group of Umarex Octane all fits together.  This photo is posted on the Yahoo Umarex Octane group's photo's archive.  You can go there and take a look.  If your Fuel's trigger group is the same as the trigger group in the photo, then it should work.

In the pics below, the one in the plexiglass trigger housing shows one of the versions of this trigger components that didn't pan out.  I posted it because it still gives you a good example of the factory trigger group as it fits into your air rifle.  The other pic shows the trigger group set against an aluminum back support.  This particular image shows the actual Duck-Head Match-Grade-Trigger component as it would replace the factory component.

You can change your user name without the help of the mods.  Click on your user name and go to the Edit Profile Function.  I did it awhile ago and it's not hard.  Congratulations on getting your trigger built.

I must have some kind of dyslexia thing going on because I couldn't figure out how to change my username myself.  I got one of the moderators to help me out.  It's done now.  My new username will be listed as TimM from here on out.

Octane Booster, Octane Magnum or just plain Octane would have all been good usernames but I decided to go with a name that would be less likely to already be taken. 

In my short correspondence to get my username changed I got the impression from some of the moderators that  some of my posts up to now were coming off like advertisements. I'm kind of reluctant to mention anything more about my air gun mods for fear of getting on the wrong side of the leadership here.  I'll just have to wait till my post count is high enough to move this subject over to the appropriate Gate; whichever that may be.

Oh well; for the time being, many thanks to those who have taken the time to post replies on this thread.

Welcome Tim. Glad to be of assistance in getting the user name change. As I tried to explain, we do have a way of doing things around here that you will probably learn as you go along. We have folks that have gone through the proper procedure to become official GTA supported vendors. Out of respect for those vendors and our procedures, we do not allow advertising on GTA except by our approved vendors. We have three areas for anyone to sell items on GTA Forums.
First is the Member Classified Gate. There, a regular member can place a one time one item sale.
Then there is the Vendor Classified Gate. Again, this area is set up for our approved vendors to list items of special interest or not listed on their website.
The third area is the Hobbyist Classified Gate. This was recently set up due to the fact that we have some very talented folks here that make airgun related items that they can share with us. They are a bit more than one time one item sellers but not officially set up as vendors. We have all areas covered with these three.
Our operation procedures are set up from years of trial and error and are in place for a reason. Mainly the protection of our membership and our forum.
At some point we CAN possibly look at adding you as an official vendor if you like. But we must get to know you and see how you fit the GTA and how GTA fits you. That too is a necessary process.
And just as a point of not much concern but a fact, I'm not just one of the moderators here.

Same here. An otherwise good gun ruined by sub-par trigger. I don't have a scale, but I'd estimate the pull on the one I had was in the 10-12 lb range. I kept checking to see if the safety was still on. When " When will the dang thing fire?" occupies your concentration, accuracy suffers. Kudos to those who have the initiative to spend more money and hours trying to correct a factory designed defect.....I didn't and sold the gun and replaced it with a Diana 48/.22.

I'm sorry to hear that you opted to sell your Octane but I completely understand.  For the first several hundred pellets I shot out of mine I considered getting rid of mine too.  That's when I went in search of a fix. When I couldn't find any such trigger fixes, that's when I decided to try to fix it myself.

By then he warranty had expired so it wasn't like I was going to void the warranty.  With some testing help from some of the guys in our Umarex Octane group, a good reliable replacement drop in Match-Grade-Trigger component was eventually arrived at so there was no need of getting rid of my Octane anymore.

Generally speaking, most air rifles have the potential of being way better than they are out of the box.  I think it's all of that "Lawyer-Proofing" that goes into them that really holds them back.  That "Lawyer-Proofing" tends to be in the form of really stiff trigger pulls.

There are higher priced air rifles on the market that come with excellent triggers.  Admittedly, I haven't shot or owned any of them because I'm basically Cheap by nature.  Since I'm a chronic tinkerer, I tend to want to try to improve what I got rather than buy a more expensive one that doesn't need improvement.   Although, I couldn't begin to tell you how many perfectly good high end toys, tools and appliances I've ruined trying to improve on them.   It must be a psychological sickness of some sort cause I've been doing this since I was a kid.
