UTG and B-Squared mount for a IZH 46M

This is a review of a UTG 4.2" ITA Red/Green Dot Sight with Riser Adaptor, QD Mount and Flip-Open Lens Caps, and the B-Square 17900 Scope Base, Weaver/Picatinny Rail for a IZH-46M. 

The UTG was more than I expected for a less than $50 Dot optic.  It was compact, not too heavy (I am sure there are much lighter red dots out there for much more $$$), glass looked good (for a 1x). 
What was surprising was the elevation and windage knobs:  Very precise, definite, audible clicks.  They also feature a Locking mechanism (two very fine set screws, BE SURE TO UNLOCK THEM BEFORE MAKING ADJUSTMENTS!!!!!!!  The allen key is included with the scope). 
   A textured battery cover for easy removal with fingers (as long as you dont use a monkey wrench to tighen it).  Takes only one battery, but two are included.
   The riser is a nice addition, but I did not need it for my IZH. 
   The quick release has a set screw that adjusts the throw of the quick release.  I had to remove the quick release set screw entirely to work with the B-Squared IZH mount.
   The B-Squared mount is a 2 piece mount, included are two opposing allen screws.  My initial thoughts, not impressed.  Seemed flimsy.  Did not instill a lot of confidence.   But!  The bottom edge of the mount rides on the pneumatic tube.  Tightening the mount forces the alignment of rail to the IZH with no need for bubble level, not that one could do much for adjustments as it sits snug to the pneumatic tube.  (I personally would like to see all manufactures include in the instructions the exact foot inches/pounds their products should be tighten too.  Just a personal nit-pick.)  I then mounted the UTG to the rail.  Again, removing the quick release set screw allowed me to tighten the quick release securing the red dot to the rail with no movement. 
   The red dot sat very high in relation to the bore.  I did remove the included riser (see pics) to get the scope closer to the bore with no difficulty, removing two screws (do watch to retain the washer and lock washer when removing the screws) with a flat head screw driver (cross slot will work too, be mindful not to strip the cross set screws). 
   Once the red dot was set with the removal of the riser, out to the range!
   Ok, todays range was behind the barn.  33Ft (tape measured verified). 
Initial sighting shot was far to the left, into the paper white of the target.  I then added 20 clicks between shots to get into the target zone.  Took 80 clicks to the right, then two to the left (oops!  Too much!) and 15 up to get it zeroed, 7 shots total. 
Note:  I do not own a bench, sand bags, lead sled etc.  I was shooting from the kneeling position, off my knee, two handed, the red dot set to the minimum to sight in. 
After initial sighting, I took a 5 shot group from the standing, 2 handed off-hand to get my sight in.  Historically, I shoot down and to the right with a pistol . . . that trend continued.  After making adjustments, I took another 5 shot group with the JSBs and then later with the H&Ns 
See the attached for the results. 

Final words:  While seemingly cheap the B-Squared mount did exactly as advertised.  Not sure if the Sun Optics would be better or not for the additional $10. 
   The UTG was a lot more features for the money.  I was pleasantly surprised. 
   The Izzy, I knew it was accurate, but "dang"!  I am looking forward to many a hour shooting!

Nice setup and writeup. If you have a chance, give some of the lighter pellets a try like the RWS Basics, PistolMeisters(SP?), R10's and JSB Exact RS 7.3 grains.
Off of a rest you should be able to literally stack pellets all day long. Have fun and good shooting.

My bench rest/thingy is a folded and rolled up bath towel with a couple of tightly tied strings to keep it sort of round and kind of firm. Works great!

On the ground is not a option currently.  Got a few inches (maybe a foot by tomorrow morning) of snow right now.

SNOW! Hmmm... Snow shoes or a tobogan comes to mind - LOL! Any chance you could set up a range in your barn or shoot
out of a door or window? It would make for a more comfortable shooting experience. I vaguely remember snow from my early
days in WI. Brrrrr!!!!!

LOL!  Around here, snow shoes are the order of the day!  Right after snow mobiles!  A distant third is CC skis! 
I would do a range out of the back of barn but we had a small (for us) ice storm roll though and the back door to the barn is heavy with ice covered snow.  The door wont even budge to open a inch! 
Eh, we dont say "burrrr!" till single digits!

Thanks Deck, I really appreciate your pictures. PM sent also. A couple of other members also reported having canted trigger and others not. Seems kinda natural when shooting though.
