.22lr optimal length barrel is around 16", you lose velocity the longer the barrel gets, if you get a really long rifle /barrel, it will hurt you in velocity. And if you shoot subs, you are close to maxing your scope out already, any slower and you will need a 10-30moa base to be able to shoot that far.

Maximum velocity does not equal ≠ maximum accuracy, that's why the industry standard is a 24in .22lr barrel! Found this posted from CCI: The test barrel length CCI uses for testing, both Pressure and velocity andaccuracy, is 24". This is the industry 'standard' for 22 LR barrel length per SAAMI. When I asked our lead technician your question he stated a 18-20" barrel length would be optimum for most of our 22 LR products, especially the Mini-Mag group, parts #30 and #31. It is possible a longer barrel may gain you some velocity when using our CCI Velocitor ammunition. Our Rimfire R&D Engineer has stated that it (Velocitor) was designed for best results in a 22-24" bbl. We get very good accuracy results from Velocitor in our 24" barrels but Mini-Mag 22 LRHP, part #31 is a consistent top performer for us also.LindaLinda OlinCCI/Speer Technical Services Technician1-866-286-7436Ext. 2343 E-mail: Linda.Olin@ATK.comFAX (208) 799-3589 I wouldn't lose any sleep, worrying about a 28in rimfire barrel slowing the .22lr projectile down too slow, this rifle has a huge following and I'm sure they'd get as good a laugh out of that as I did ¿ If I think about this, will call CZ USA to get the real scoop*It's a good idea to use a canted base, 10 or 20MOA on .22lr shooting 200yd + CZ USA 1-800-955-4486
Just curious, can you show me a precision .22lr target rifle with a 16in barrel? All the target rifles I see have much longer barrels.

Also have a Diana 34p with the JM old school kit I installed. You'll be happy! The firing cycle is a solid thunk.
