I'm using Energizer Lithium AAA in mine, should be the highest current AAA on the market. Used cheapo Rayovac before that didn't work well either, could barely keep it connected to phone on the cheapos.

+1 on the Energizer lithium, in almost everything starting from a few years ago in my game cameras.

I'll probably hook mine to a power supply and see what happens, the only reason I haven't tried a 4AA pack is that I'm not sure if it uses a buck-boost regulator for 5 volts, or just a boost circuit. Not sure the transceiver would like 6 volts. Maybe I'll run it on 4 NiMH cells for 4.8 nominal, maybe that's a better plan, I'd still use AA for higher current and capacity.

Some guys have wired in a USB power bank...portable cell phone charger. Cheap, rechargeable, high capacity, and nicely regulated at 5V.

I've seen that and may still go that direction since I have a ton of old USB cables from dead mice. Mouse dies, I cut the cable off so it can never get back into circulation again.

I have been able to get my tripod mount Chinese chrony to miss a reading but it was my mistake. I don't tripod mount it, I just put it on a block of wood on the handrail of the side porch I shoot from. Things get a little tight on the porch when shooting my Avenger and if I extend the barrel even a little bit into the chrony's space, I do not get a reading. The barrel clamp model has only given me unusable readings when the battery needed charged.

I have the Caldwell, hardwired model, got it from Amazon warehouse used, been working great despite having bounced a few rounds off. It hates direct sunlight of course, but if I can get it an area where it's in the shade but open to the sky it works great, I did buy the LED kit, but it really didn't work well at all, so I bought some 12v LED strips and stuck them to the original shades and run them off my RC batteries, works great indoors. One thing I did find, LED light sources powered by AC or cheap DC converters really screw with them. The bay lights in my shop makes it record a continuous string of velocities exceeding 18000fps ")
I would buy another one, been looking the bluetooth model though, the hardwire act is a pain.

Xcortech X3500. About $75.00 online.
Display is detachable so easier to read. Reads in FPS but you have to convert joules to ft.lbs. Works in any light, never missed a reading. Stores last 25 shots but resets after power up.
