Only one time, in 25 years, we had a strong argument and she yelled "F-YOU!" and slammed the bedroom door.
 Unfortunately my fingers were in the door jam.
I said "No one tells me that in my own house since 'Satan's Daughter' (my first wife) left!".
I had never compared the two before. She immediately felt bad and nursed my wounds.
We made up, talked it over, and then both laughed about how silly it all was, until we went to bed.

Laughing out the tragedy is often a good sign. That the absurd truths of our own tragedies allows us to be open and move on in laughter (rather than stuck in hard looks and defense) is so peculiarly human.

Yeah, animals don't talk or honor their dead, but the way we can laugh our way through horrors truthfully at times is an aspect of the human experience that keeps me wondering or chewin on awe.

I've been sober 17 years, Miss Baby and I have been together 43 years, married 37 years, I'm totally retired and we have enough money. All three of my wife's children have died. People ask she and I how she bears it. We've talked about it. What other choice do you have.

Had another "how lucky I am..." moment this morning.

I finally slept fully.  First time this week.  The light was just right, my wife was happy to be waking up with me, and the baby was cooing contentedly.

No nerve pain, just that how lucky I am kind of moment.
