Yep, practice, practice. Springers are the best for a challenge to shoot accurately (well, not so much the 54).

Deriving what size a group should be, is always a tough job it seems. But talkin bout is always simple
.
FWIW, I think if you don't post an image, it's just all "paper tiger" anyways. The guys that posted with images below, got the good groups they show probably the hard way; lots of practice, if you look at what onebadjj and mark611 and others said, springers are tough to shoot and needs lots of trigger time. Great part is, that is the fun part of air rifle shooting; trigger time!
The groups I shot with my 460 and my 48 in .22 were shot from FT position, no straps, no rest other than my forearm, no bench, on the stool, pictured here. These guns have less than 500 pellets through either one. They will get better as more pellets go thru the gun...probably...
I believe a 10 shot group at any distance tells you more about what me and the gun together are capable of repeating, imho. A five shot group is not bad, and kind of indicative, and a three shot group is
imo
just "a good start." I have been playing FT for two years and man, in order to be barely competitive in springer, against the good shooters in our group, I really have to practice at least a few times a week. I shoot better with my .177 HW 97... but its the ar i've shot the most...

Ya I don't technically shoot from a bench either, I'm not really a paper puncher I'm a hunter! I only sight in at 30yds using a free standing platform, I only rest my hand on a ladder rung to steady my shooting to sight up and after I feel confident that I'm on at 30yds all my shots are taken off hand or I use a sitting position seated on the ground, I use nothing but Leapers scopes on my AG's and have learned how to use the mildots in the scopes to shoot distance, but I also use to shoot about 500rnds a day too with different AG's I have this why I'm able to shoot out to 100+yds on game and be successful, I personally think shooting from a seated bench type position hurts you when your a hunter with this type of shooting because you don't learn how to suppot the rifle with your body and shooting in different field positions, nothing wrong with alittle bench time to learn to shoot your AG and if all you do is shoot paper thats fine but its a different storie where the animals play, JMHO.

Here are some 10 shot groups. one on the left is 65 yd and right is 100 yds. I dont shoot 10 shot groups much so not many pics. Both were off a tripod and I was sitting in a folding chair. You do have a good point the more target shooting I do the slower I am on the draw and tend to sit and watch the target to get that absolute perfect point on the target and the result is lots of missed oppertunity but cool memories of nutters or other pest with the cross hairs on thier faces like little mug shots.

The 48/52 and 460/470 guns are in a different class than the floating barrel 34 and 350 Springers. Those other guns have fixed barrels and will always be a little more accurate than 34 & 350.
The 350 is hard to shoot. 1" groups at 50yds is very acceptable for an untuned 350. The 34 is a little easier to shoot but still needs a lot of practice time to master the hold and learn the gun. 1/2" should be considered very good at 30yds with an untuned 34, and 3/4" (or a dime) is usually the norm. The 350 (untuned) compared to 34 will always give you a little bigger groups at any range.
My 48 out of the box was awesome and much better than any break-barrels I have owned, so we can't compare those guns to his 34 & 350. I was getting clover leaf or 1 ragged hole groups with the 48 out of the box. I was never able to do that with any of the three (3) 350's I have owned (unless it was 10yds), until I started getting them tuned (w/trigger work).
