I shoot both a 350 and 34 in .177 cal. And i just wondered what the maximum size group would be acceptable in these rifles. I think i would be happy with around a 1" group at 30 to 50 yards, would you guys?

From what shooting position, If from a bench than I would say It depends on the shooter.
From a bench my 34 .177 at 21 yards at 9x on the scope, can clover leaf pellets around a pellet hole making a bigger hole, Only when I am on my Game.Rob

Yes you could, this after noon I was at the warehouse and was shooting at 50 yards and kept the pellets to within a dime (3/4 inches) from a bench.
The 34 is as accurate as you or I am. When i am at my best, I can keep pellets to within a Canadian dollar coin( which is 26.5mm or 1.02 inches) at 80 yards from a bench. I am not always this good though only when I am in the zone .Rob

At 30 yds and with its pellets of choice id say 1/2 in max. The 350 untuned will be harder to get shooting until you fiure out how it likes to be held. Little bit of practice and youll be in there.

Are these new guns? How many shots on the spring and seal? Not to be snobby or anything, but those groups are not at all acceptable to me........At thirty yards, that dime should cover the holes....... maybe the guns need shot and broke in, Keep shoting and see if the groups don't improve a bit

Just my opinion, we all seek to have great accuracy out of are airguns, But ones Idea of accuracy may not be some elses.
When we hunt we want acceptable accuracy on the fly and those who bench shoot targets usually demand higher expectations.
The best way for me to get accurate with a springer, is really to stick to one for awhile. This way you learn her, and when you switch to the other AG's the process will begin again. Eventually you will be able to get great accuracy out of them all.
This is my own personal experience with shooting my own, and I know I could drop a scope on my winchester 500, and be crazy accurate cause I shot it exclusively for 3 years, I know her in and out.
Now I am learning my RWS AG's, they are accurate but I find I always have to be certain of my hold and re-examine my hand to rifle, where as with the winchester I just pick it up and shoot it. With time I will be able to let them shine repeatedly as soon as I am as familiar with them as the winchester. Keep shooting .Rob

Anyone go for distance with open (peep) sights? I've got a meet coming up and one of the probable events is a friendly long distance shooting competition. Most will have rifles with scopes. I will too, but I will also bring a 54/.22 and a 52/.177; both with Williams peeps on them. Haven't had the chance to shoot them at an outside range yet.

How good of a shot are you?
Spring and gas ram air guns (especially magnums like your RWS M350) are notoriously difficult to master and shoot accurately. Most quality air guns (and even some lower quality ones) are capable of out shooting the person behind the trigger. Also, marksmanship is a learned and perishable skill and there are other variables at play as well (environmental conditions, sights, pellets etc). So if you’re still learning a particular gun, 1 inch (or larger) groups at 30 yards maybe all you’re capable of doing right now. Chances are it’s not the guns fault, but the person behind the trigger. The good thing is that with practice, almost everyone can improve their scores. So if you’re not getting the wee tiny groups that you see other people here posting about, don’t sweat it. Keep practicing and learning your guns. I’ll bet you’ll see things get better.

well, with anything practice makes perfect. and with a 350....there will need to be allot of practice and patience before things "simmer" down. are you resting the the forearm straight to the sand bag? or do you have your hand in there? some guns like one or the other....if your lucky they like both.
the groups i was "pumped" on when i first started bench shooting....where lets just say ...bigger then I'd like now. what i LOVE about shooting spring guns is the "variable" built into every part of the gun, trigger, scope, rings, sandbag, pellet, and a million other factors. its finding the combo of all these things that work best for the gun you have. I'll post some pic's of 30y groups later today with a stock RWS-52.
like anything in life the answer is not "no" or "yes"......it's a grey maybe...Bart

I agree it takes alot of time behind the trigger and also finding out what your gun likes and dislikes theirs alot at play when it comes to learning these things, so the more time spent behing the trigger the better your odds are of mastering it! and it also depends on how serious you are about your shooting skills and expectations.

With a little practice alot of stuff is possible. This is a pic I dug up from my 470 at 25 yds with JSB 10.2 gr pellets. Its a 3/8 in group outside to outside. The groups is actually virticle the pic is just side ways. The shot could have been all through 1 hole but I goofed it up in my breathing. When your shots hit in a verticle line 90% of the time its in your breathing.
This gos to show that the guns will definatly be able to outshoot the shooter, just gotta spend alot of qt with them and figure each one out. Just like a woman you figure out what she likes and how she likes to be held and you will be a very happy man.
