*This rifle has POI drift :o ie, can shoot a few X then POI shifts. Have not been able to fix the problem though suspect it results from shroud pressure on barrel. (with shroud off POI ~2" different) Many targets shot for practice chasing POI around and holding off based on prior shot's error.
-
Very good shooting Kim.
I'm not sure of this but I think all guns will shift a little as you shoot. I think lead builds up in different places, moving poi slightly.
I'd have to see a gun that hits the x every time by aiming at the center of the x.
I'd like to add that I've never even seen a real gun vice.
-
Thanks Tommy
There is a competition benchrest venue near me (Open Grove). Hopefully I can make it over there one day and try a dedicated benchrest rig like USFT or Thomas. These guys routinely shoot all 10s indoors on a more difficult target!
-
I'd like to see those folks shoot, do you know how often they clean barrels?
-
Awesome target Kim!!
I'd also love to see a match and would LOVE to shoot indoors......no wind???
-
They shoot cards with 25 bulls (and numerous sighters off-record). From what I read they usually clean barrels between cards, so after 40-50 shots.
Lots of good info on "Benchrest Central" and benchrest link on Yellow

OK here we go for another match. The elusive 200 is still giving me the slip! One of these days I will get it.

I have a springer (TX200 / 22), and there is NO WAY I could shoot it like Joe or any of the other springer-shooters who've competed! It's a beauty.....but a beast to shoot accurately (though maybe easier @177).

Nice shooting .... everyone .... I just got back in town about 2 hours ago, I plan to shoot tomorrow, and if the wind behaves, I'll post a target tomorrow night. Calling for 75* 6 mph winds, gusts to 12. Probably not score well if the gusts catch me a couple of times, but I'll have fun trying.

My RWS 36 should be back from Lee Haire next week. I never could shoot it, that's why I got the pcp. Any suggestions besides holding it loose? I've been told not to use sandbags, do y'all agree with that?
Thanks

Apparently my Tx1200 does not like JSB pellets anymore. And then there is this new haircut...
BTW, I do not shoot when winds are at 15-20 mph. These are my prime grooming conditions. The wind like that removes dry leaves and twigs from my hair really nicely. Joe you are lucky you don't have that problem, so you can devote more time to your hobby. :D

Wow ..... I only post this target because I decided to lose .... in the most humiliating way possible. ;D I tried ... couldn't handle the trigger well today. LOL ;D, Thanks for the humor. I also would NOT even shoot in 15 - 20 mph winds. No doping for that kind of wind .... just grab another beer, wait it out, or quit shooting altogether for the day.
Nice shooting all springer guys .... and OK .... nice shooting you PCP guys too. It appears that Joe, Squatch, and Steve will be on the springer podium this match ... Like in the Terminator "I'll be back" .... I hope.

BTW .... I found out what Joe P uses as an anemometer ..... he rubs a light coating of Ballistol on his head, counts down the time it takes to evaporate ..... thus giving him his wind speed. ;D :P
Speaking of weather forecasting ... you have all heard of Dopler Weather Radar? Well, in Pittsburgh, we use Dopeler Weather Radar .... we just say "Hey dope, stick your head out the window, and see if it's raining".

Hey guys, question, When you post your score, the last line ie; 192/200/ 3x. What does the 3x represent?
Thanks, Bill
-
Hey Bill!
An X is scored when any part of that TINY center dot is hit.
-
When your pellet hole removes (for .22) or touches (for .177) the smallest center circle, a dot really, it is scored as 10X, which is better that just plane 10. If the scores of multiple contestants are numerically the same, the score with the highest number of Xs wins.
-
One should add that too many X's is not conducive to marital bliss :(
-
Thanks Joe and Mr S. I could not find an explanation in the rules.
Bill.
-

Marital Bliss .... I do believe that may be an oxymoron.
Pappy

An X scoring explanation above requires clarification. An X doesn't have to remove the center dot on the 22 target, just touch it:
From the rules:
With one exception, if the pellet breaks or touches the higher scoring line it counts as the higher score. The one exception is that on the 25 caliber target only, the center dot must be removed to score an "X". The center dot need only be touched to score an "X" on the 177 caliber and 22 caliber targets.
The X dot on the 25 caliber target is so small it's almost (but with the scores you all are posting, not quite!) a moot point. It does need to be removed for an X on that target to be the same difficulty as an X on the 177 and 22 targets, which need only touch the center dot for an X. Since the 177 and 22 targets score "normal", this reminder is only present on the bottom of the 25 caliber target - which indicates by the X ring dimension on the bottom line below the bulls that it needs to be removed.
I'm glad you guys made me look at the rules today - while I was looking over scoring guidance, I made an edit to allow rested shooting off the bench or the ground. Kind of embarrassing when the moderator can't follow the rules and shoots seated off sticks! I'm legal now ;D

Great shooting everyone!!!!! This sure is fun! I went up turkey hunting and took the rifles along to the camp for this one. Shot my target Saturday night and had to run out the road 8 miles to a tiny clearing where I could pick up a signal so I could post my target and score ;D Got some interesting reactions from some of the folks at camp as I was out shooting my air rifles after hunting each day...
