Seem they made the barrel smaller on the .357 and it seems to have solved the accuracy problem. They also lowered the power and increased the usable shots on the .30 cal.

.357 otb making 95 fpe for 18 shots? Not too bad. Assuming they used JSB ammo, that's pretty slow though, roughly 730 fps. I'm willing to bet with a little personal tuning it can do a little better, maybe reaching 825-850 fps if the shot count were to dropped down to about 10-12
Wish they'd widen the mag & slot a little to accommodate longer ammo. Looks like it'll only take pellets & shorter bullets. But still very impressive.
Only question I have really is how many options are there wrt .30 cal ammo on the market now? besides JSB it doesn't seem to have a lot of ammo choices available currently. So the better gun at least for now just might be the .357

if I had the .30 Id just cast my own bullets/pellets, Lee molds are cheap and scrap lead is easy to come by other than taht a small ladle and a small melting pot is all thats needed.
wheel weights make good bullets and can be found really cheap, id also do the same for the .357.

Thanks for that update, I'm going .30cal first. Im going to work some magic on it to increase power for two clips. I will be looking for 90-100ftlb with the .30cal thats my goal for that gun. with an low Es.
-
I know these are pre-production numbers but at this time I can't think of how these will benefit me so I'm going to wait on the sidelines for now. I got a chance to shoot the 43 gr Eun Jin pellets in my 25 cal Sumatra and a full magazine gave me a hi of 951 and lo of 920 fps. I guess that about 84 fpe average. At 30 yards I had one flyer but 5 shots went into the same hole. This is too similar to what the 30 cal is doing. Plus I think there's only a couple of options for ammo available for 30 cal. My Career Ultra I'm getting from 120-180 fpe depending on what I'm shooting and the power wheel setting so I don't need another .357 cal. I ordered a mold to cast the 80 gr EPP\UG slugs and that will give me several options for ammo.

With the .30 I'm going to shoot long range with it, 150yards, with the heavy pellets the drop rate will be to high at long range. At 30 yards it may be ok but stretch it out to 100 or more is where I'm more concern with the weight. The 30cal JSB shooting @ a avg of 975fps will give me 94.5ftlb and a much flatter curve.

Am I the only one that sees a complete disconnect in the data on the .30 cal.... How can you go from 7 shots at 80 FPE (560 FPE) to 21 shots at 73 FPE (1533 FPE) with the same airtube?.... Makes no sense to me....
Bob

No I seen that too, but did not matter to me as I was going to dive right into it to make it do what I want it to do. I don't think that they have the real numbers as of yet.

Good question Bob.
Only answer I can come up with is that in the initial testing their combo of sizes for the valve outlets, tp and the hammer strike/dwell was way too long & the gun was dumping huge amounts of air with each shot, even long after the projectile had left the barrel, making those settings highly inefficient.
Hopefully, they'll sort those bugs out & get the mix just right before production & sales to the AG community.

I guess we need to know what he means by "usable" shots?

LEE, does NOT make any suitable molds. Caliber or length. Custom molds only possibility.

This is actually the bullet I was thinking of, 75 grain will cast @ roughly 75 grains and can be sized down to .307 or whatever dia needed for rifle bore.

I dont know if these would work of not just an idea that came to mind.
You are correct, it's lyman that makes the mold I was thinking of and NOT LEE.

Rick Eutsler was kind enough to answer my email about the difference in shot count that Bob noticed:
Joe,
The rifle was originally set to max power to accommodate the heavier JSB pellets that are used overseas (will be imported middle of next year to the US). They are 50 grain and utilize the power more efficiently. The lighter 44.75 grain .30 cal pellets don't and that's all we have for .30 cal here in the states at this time. The lighter pellet just wasted the air. By backing down the power some, we were able to not lose much on the FPE side, but gain a lot in the shot count. I was just out videoing yesterday and got some really great groups with the .30.. 75 yards may be under 1" shooting off sand bags.
Cheers,
Rick Eutsler

In the .30 cal PCPs I have shot, I haven't seen a huge difference in air usage between 45 gr. and 50 gr.... and yes, the 50 gr. are available in the USA and Canada under the Daystate name.... I guess we'll see eventually, still makes no sense to me....

I'm hoping these guns will be around $400 or $500 or is that wishful thinking?

A new 22 and 25 cal BT65 cost more than this so what do you think?
-
BT65 .25 new is right around 550 bucks...I'm just asking a simple question in what the price might be. No reason to get snarky.
-
They are going to be in the $750- 800 range A BT65 is $679 the Hatsan Galatian QE is $769.99
where is a BT65 new for $550? Maybe old style, old stock

No but it is a .177 and a much less desirable gun as you can see the price difference on the .22 and .25, so a .30 would also not be a $550 gun. A BT65 in .177 should have never been made you have to do so much to get it down to a good fps . That gun is shooting way too hot for a .177 thats why they have to blow them out, that Cal is not selling.
-
Ah, yes I didn't see that option for Calibers. Thank you for pointing that out! I really have been waiting for a long time to get a big bore .30 or .357 preferably air rifle. I have two Marauder's .22 and .25 and also a Benji .25 Nitro. I was very unhappy with the design of the Benjamin Bulldog and that made me start researching and found Hatsan would soon be releasing them.

Didn't mean to sound "snarky" just asking a rhetorical question based on the information about the older QE models.

No worries, it's my fault for not looking properly before jumping to conclusions. I don't post here often but I read a lot of your discussions and respect your opinions. That is why I asked. =)

Nate the .30 will be out in March ;)

So you still leaning towards the 30 over the 357?

Yes Norm, With the .30 I can get that 90-100ftlb and still having a very nice fps, with the .357 I do not think that I will be able to get it to the mid 900fps like the .30 they are all built on the same platform. I want a .357 that can get to the mid 900's

Looking back I can see it sounded negative. What I meant was since this is a new QE model and the 22 & 25 QE goes for mid $600 what would be your opinion of how much it costs? Personally, I think it will be around $850 for the 30 cal and $900 for the 357. The lowest priced repeating big bore available in the US right are from Evanix and theirs cost about $900. They also just released a 30 cal which costs between $950 for the Rainstorm II to $12-13 hundred for the Sniper and Max Bullpup. Boy I wish Shin Sungs were still available here, they have a 6 shot 357 for $600 but Airguns of Arizona don't know when they will ever get more.

I think I will sit on the sidelines for awhile and see how they perform. I really don't get a chance to hunt because of my schedule so right now I just do long range plinking.

I wouldn't say that at all, but I guess it's a matter of what an individual would be looking for in a gun. Plenty of accuracy & power in .177 with this platform.
As an example http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=80509.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=80509.0)

Actually it doesnt take much to drop the velocity on the BT65. Some install a sail in the valve to improve the guns efficiency, but it isn't really absolutely necessary. I just plugged 4 holes to improve efficiency & turned down the hammer spring. I wouldn't call that a lot of work. Or one could just use the heaviest most accurate ammo available.
