We'll be home next week and I want to begin to "improve" my 2289 and cost is an object.
I've done the .22 casing thinghy with the trigger. Next comes a steel breech kit from Crosman. After that, I think I want an 18" barrel which I understand is part No. 2400-102, is that correct?
Although I'll mount a Simmons 22 Mag 4x scope on her, the end of the barrel needs something. Anybody know the part no. for a Crosman brake and the Crosman metal barrel band?
Thanks, y'all. :D

Hi Greg
You are correct 2400-102 is an 18 inch .22 cal barrel and 2300-121 is the break with a sight pin.a standard sight is 788-101 as far as I know Crosman does not make a metal barrel band. you can get a nice one from blue fork design here on the forum.

Oldgringo,
check out Jason's, (nervoustrigger)'s budget minded mods.
these apply to all 1377 / 1322 / 2289 pistols.
I think you might like what you find there.

Welcome OG
I am a newbee to. I ordered my steel breech kit on the 18th and got it in the 24th. The 24" barrel I ordered at the same time must be back ordered?
I have received no e-mails letting me know whats up with my barrel. It took me a little over two hours to install the breech,a .22/air gun to weaver rail, and my TruGlo red dot sight. I'm still working on zero.

I saw another post where that OP was advised to place his Crosman order on Tuesday for Crosman's 20% "Tuesday" discount. We'll be back in Texas Tuesday and I'll place an order for the items mentioned in my OP. I'll plan on doing the 'poor man's' adjustment to the barrel band. That, incidentally, is the way I shim my scopes when needed.
I'll have plenty of things; e.g., RV unload & service, yard, Dr. Appmts., other air guns, shoot/sell a PB or two, lose weight, etc., etc. to keep me occupied until the Crosman order arrives. :D

We're 500 miles fro home and my 'lil shop. The 2300-121 brake is black and will fit on the 2400-102 barrel, yes?

My 24" barrel arrived at 20:00 hours today OG.Took 9 days to get the barrel. Only 6 on the steel breech.

yep, it will fit. one mod that you can do cheap is stuffing the piston to make it more rigid.
have fun

"Stuffing the piston"? Boy howdy, have I got a lot to learn. For instance, I haven't a clue what you're talking about. ???

i think that there is another name for it. the one i remember was done with drill bits and epoxy...i think. what it accomplished is that it took the flex out of the plastic piston. tranlating into better performance. i remember( lol) about maybe 2 weeks ago someone was talking about a similar procedure that yeilded better performance than a flat top set -up. look up piston modifications for 13xx platform. you'll find more in your searches if you look for 13xx instead of 2289. if i can find that info i'll shoot it your way.
peace

We'll get there OG. My 24" barrel got installed yesterday at 9PM, and I had to wait for light to zoom in my reddot. Working on it now. At 30 feet I'm hitting 1"rt & .5"high. Might be my 60 year old wobble.

Greg, you can find info about it in my writeup that Ron linked early on in the thread.
By stuffing the piston and shimming the pump cup with washers, you can get a performance increase similar to a flat-top valve and piston like KJ alluded to. And at almost no cost...some old drill bits cut to length, a couple of washers, etc.. On my 2289, I got an almost 50% increase in energy on 10 pumps over the stock configuration, and I just don't know anybody that enjoys pumping so that makes it worthwhile in my book. It takes a little bit of time but certainly something you can do in an afternoon. Good luck with your build!

Greg,
just to make it easier, here's Jason's link again.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/n3ro6yphs4ql2l4/orhYCuIPBw/Crosman%202289%20mods.pdf (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/n3ro6yphs4ql2l4/orhYCuIPBw/Crosman%202289%20mods.pdf)
It is about the best write up you could ask for, when building a 2289, 1377, or 1322.
(They are all basically the same gun with only minor differences).
Example,
Lets say I start with a 1377. (it's a .177 caliber) , Then I change out the barrel and bolt probe to a .22 caliber,... I now have a 1322.
(The 1377 and 1322 are both PISTOLS).
So now lets say I add the shoulder stock. (it is called a 1399 btw, but dont let that confuse you). It's just a "Shoulder stock" and it fits the same on both the 1377 OR the 1322 guns.
There are also many different Crosman barrels, of different lengths,... (.22 cal),... that with fit right on it.
This is when you hear us mentioning "Carbine builds", and you see guys posting things like "13xx" or "22xx" or "1377/22"
Now we are heading towards a "Carbine" .... which is what your 2289 is with the nicer, fatter, pump handle.
The 2289 pump handle will fit on the 1377 and the 1322 pistols.
Then there are all the "Crosman Custom Shop" parts, (Steel Breech, various Barrel lengths)..., and/or,... the aftermarket parts,...
( OTHER Steel Breeches, Probes, Barrel bands, LDC's, Flat top pistons, Flat top Valves, Etc.),.. that you can go wild with.
and then of course, many guys will custom make / modify their own parts, stocks, pump arms, etc.
Go here for more info, and to see just how far some guys have taken their builds.
MANY of the GTA guys (here), are also on the CAPOF Forum...
http://www.crosman-air-pistol-owners-forum.com/board/ (http://www.crosman-air-pistol-owners-forum.com/board/)
I hope that helps explain some of it all a bit better. ;D
Here's a few pics of my "Carbine build".... It started off as a regular old 1377 Pistol.
Then it got the Shoulder Stock (Crosman part number 1399)
so this just makes it a 1377 Pistol w/ Shoulder Stock.
Then I started to modify it with "off the shelf" and "aftermarket" parts, into basically a "2289 Carbine"... with some other goodies like a Steel breech, Scope, Longer Barrel (18"), LDC, Rat light, .
Here is a pic of it taken back apart, with longer barrel(.22 cal, 18"), LDC, steel breech, bolt probe, flat top piston, and a couple of different red dot type sights...
so now here it's a "1322 Carbine build"
and lastly, I've added the 2289 pump handle, which effectively makes it a "2289 Carbine build"
so this is why we say they are basically "all the same gun". the differences are only in the minor details,.... but all parts and pretty much interchangeable between 1377, 1322, and 2289 (Bugout).
NOW,.... (just to corn-fuezzle it some more fer ya)...
the 2240 series of guns are pretty much the same,... with the difference being that they are Co2 guns,... (rather than),.. Pump up guns....
But all the same parts for 1377, 1322, 2289 upgrades and modifications,... will fit the 2240 Co2 guns too.
Have Fun, Shoot straight, and Shoot safe ! ;D
hope this helps

Thanks everybody. :D
I'll get it figured out {maybe} once we get home and settled back into our east Texas routine...and my 'lil shop.
Ron, that muzzle brake on your reborn 1377 intrigues me. ???

Hahaha, no problem Greg,
Glad to be of help. Gotta take care of my "kin-folk' ya know,... ( I'm a native Texan too) born in Hillsboro, and have family from DFW to Longview, to Conroe. Heck, the way my gradma tells me,... I'm related to half the state, and 1/3rd of the cattle, LOL!
The Muzzle brake is AMAZING how well is works. VERY "Neighbor Friendly". I'm talking "Mouse-fart" quiet !
It is a Gen II from Mac-1. Give Tim (owner of Mac-1) a call on them. He is a respected member and vendor here on the GTA. He can set you up. ask him to also explain the advantages or the Steel Breech, Longer Barrel, and Flat top Piston/Valve too.

Well, a small box arrived via UPS from Crosman yesterday afternoon. ;D I'm assuming it's the steel breech. Can my 18" Crosman barrel and muzzle brake be far behind?
Addendum:
A quick call to Cameron (nice guy) at Crosman told me that the barrel and brake is to ship today. By this time next week, I should have a new toy. ;D
-
The steel breech arrived last week and the barrel and brake arrived this afternoon. Tomorrow, we'll see if I'm smart enough to take it apart and put the new goodies on it.
Anybody know of any cool videos on modding a 2289?

Just take it slow and put a white towel underneath you just in case. If you have any problems let me know and I can make you a video on how to do it. Or YouTube might have a video.

Thanks Chris,
I just found a YouTube video. I think I got it now. We'll know by this time tomorrow. ::)
