Title: PA shipping
Post by: avator on February 17, 2025, 09:06:14 AM
Why have my last 2 orders from Pyramyd Air involved Amazon? I hope they continue PA's great pellet packing. We'll soon see...  :o

Strange. I've noticed a few people mention amazon delivering items not purchased through amazon. It's not just PA or airguns... something bigger is different about shipping generally maybe.

If Pyramyd Air used Amazon to deliver, the time would be much shorter for packages coming to me.  There is a major Amazon hub about 20 miles from my place.  Pyramyd Air's store is two states away.
For pellets though, I would order from someone else.  (I have seen and heard how Amazon handles pellets.)

This pellet order still has a USPS tracking number and was picked up in Solon, Ohio where PA is located. Yeah, I'm curious to see how these will be packed. The last order was a simple poppet that came in a bubble wrap envelop and stuck in the mailbox.
I just don't get the connection with Amazon.

My guess is that PA is taking advantage of Amazon's massive market. I'm sure there are plenty of people who has airguns, but are not hobbyists. Probably not even aware that they are airgun forums or dedicated ag shops such as PA.
If the pellets are shipping from PA locations then they should be packaged properly.

The odd occurrence I've heard about a few times lately is an amazon delivery truck and person delivering a non amazon item. It's as if USPS or UPS or Fedex have subcontracted the amazon drivers, who themselves are sometimes not even amazon employees in a W2 sense but contractors on paper I suspect (but don't know, just a guess).  I doubt there is a direct link between PA or other small businesses and the amazon drivers.

Around Christmas time, is the only period I've ever seen, plain clothes people delivering Amazon packages from plain vehicles. I guess they subcontract out during the super busy Christmas season.

I got shipping conformation this morning for my 4 tim pellet order over the weekend from PA.
I noticed the tracking number looked odd and when I tracked it, Amazon is the carrier listed...

Will be interesting for sure.

And then there are the anti-Amazon services.
Those are the folks that follow the Amazon trucks and take the packages off your front porch right after they have been delivered
They often wear blue/white uniforms too

I made an order just a few days ago, when you are selecting shipping options, one of them is "Amazon Logistics"...
That's where you're getting a connection to Amazon...
I elected for the dollar more to avoid it myself...  :P

Amen, brother.

When I order JSBs, I go through Trenier.  Otherwise PA's storefront on Amazon.  Same packaging as PA normally uses :D

If I order anything from Krale-Schietsport overseas, I ALWAYS add in some .35 pellets for the big-bores.

Funny story...
I work at a fab shop-greasy, dirty, industrial-you know?...
I'm standing in the one bay door, had it open taking stuff out to the hopper-see this van pull up-what the heck?!?
All painted with a paw motif, with the little placard sticking up above the windshield-"Pet Taxi"?...
What the heck?!...
Guy gets out...
Hawaiian shirt, flip-flops and shorts... says "I have a package for you"
I'm thinking-"Did something of ours show up at the wrong address?...
Nope...
He was contracted out to deliver for Amazon-the foreman initially thought I had lost my mind when I walked up to him and described what had just happened LOL...

It's a bit crazy!
You would think that Amazon would require them to, at least, wear an Amazon vest or hat, or something.

Yeah, we get the sub contracted plain clothes folks here delivering for Amazon.. in our rural area it's either a husband or his wife. But this deal is something completely different.. like I said, it has a usps tracking number and that poppet was delivered by usps. I just don't see where Amazon fits in.
I posed the question to Google and got nothing.

I'm guessing PA is probably saving money by utilizing their Amazon shipping account.

I ordered pellets from AD/PA several weeks ago, which were shipped via amazon "shipping partner" to my PO box at the post office. As soon as I learned amazon was doing the shipping, I called to ask who was packaging the tins. The vendor did, and my tins arrived packed the usual good way that AD/PA does.

I wouldn't worry as long as amazon only handles the already-boxed boxes. I'd still rather order from AOA because they are only one state over, though.

Funny this is mentioned.  Wife gets a lot of stuff from a fabric store in Missouri.  Informed delivery from USPS started showing Amazon in the from section.  I don't know.

Yep, I don't really give a hang until I stop getting PA's great packing. If that stops happening I can buy pellets cheaper if I just want them tossed loosely in a box with an air pillow. PA will get no more of my money.

Regarding why so much amazon shipping of non-amazon items, it probably has to do with the UPS demands to the USPS. Those were detailed in a different thread. That was the same time when I talked to a USPS worker, who said they were trying to work out an agreement to continue having UPS as shipping partner. Apparently, UPS didn't budge from their demands and amazon was willing to do the same work without the same requirements.

I've hardly seen ANY UPS trucks around here in the last few weeks. A few FedEx are still making rounds. I don't know if they are still a shipping partner with USPS. Seems like there's enough parcel delivery work to go around, though.

A lot of companies are switching to Amazon Shipping.  Apparently, Amazon is sinking its tentacles into the shipping industry too!  First it was groceries, then pharmaceuticals and tele-med and now global shipping!

Many non Amazon items are sold through Amazon. Those items usually list "sold by" or "shipped from" info in the item page. They also have a link their store fronts. I've noticed that PA has such an arrangement with Amazon recently. Matter of fact, check out this snip from the Amazon site. That drop down menu gives you the option of PA or Amazon.

A fleeting moment of dismay...
My phone alerted me that my PA pellet order was delivered and left in the mailbox. This hit my PO'd bone because our mail person always brings them to the fence and puts them on the trash can just inside or we see her and go out to meet her.
I expected the worse like I would find a plastic envelop with damaged tins and scattered pellets shoved in the mailbox.  :o
I walked out to the mailbox making the plan in my head on how I was going to word the complaint to PA.
Opened the mailbox to find the typical PA pellet shipping box with the same PA packing inside. YES !!!
The shipping label did say "Amazon Shipping" on it and the order did seem to arrive a day or 2 faster than PA's normal shipping.

According to the link provided by @mobilehomer above the Amazon cult is actively pursuing internet vendors for their shipping needs.
And that makes a whole lot of sense considering their experience & track record.

Looks like sound business decisions on both ends. I would rather see PA do things to lower their operating costs to improve profit than to just increase prices. And on the other end, I can't fault Azon for reaching for the stars either... yeah, I know what I did there.   8)

“The most spiritual men, as the strongest, find their happiness where others would find their destruction: in the labyrinth, in hardness against themselves and others, in experiments. Their joy is self-conquest: asceticism becomes in them nature, need, and instinct. Difficult tasks are a privilege to them; to play with burdens that crush others, a recreation. Knowledge–a form of asceticism. They are the most venerable kind of man: that does not preclude their being the most cheerful and the kindliest.”
