For starters In the early 80's I invented the "Snap mag release" for the 10 22 rifle, and quick release for the Ruger Mk 1,2 pistol magazine, Both were Stolen as the were "Not Patentable'', thank you Ramline Inc. after that I got into air guns and Paintball, in its Infancy so it was the wild west for Inventors and a lot of fun. Paint ball gun Mods. were easy and I basically worked for Paintballs, I worked out of my Garage with a lathe and mill. I made externally rifled barrels for paintballs and eventually my own semi auto painball gun.

Don’t make the hobby a career you’ll hate it. I used to love motorcycles, now I don’t even look at them anymore after working on motorcycles for a living for 15 years so thank goodness I don’t do that anymore. I would never ruin my air gunning hobby that’s just me. Now I repair commercial kitchen equipment, I’ve never cared about commercial kitchen equipment so it works out

I'm not sure how good the market would be but no one is making sidelever breeches for the gen 2 marauder anymore. Id buy one in 22 cal if it wasn't too pricey.

I'd be interested in one for the Fortitude if it didn't change that space between the barrel and the tube.

To the OP ...... indeed the trend is what have you done ?  Or can do by showing AIR GUN relatable work that you have done.
I'm not trying to be a azz hole here, but weigh some relativity. As one who has done a bunch of really cutting edge R&D, shared the actual machining created parts tho having a lack of folks realization of the steps involved has lead too many an inquire of custom Parts-n-Pieces gone down in flames.

I really do wish all the best in this seeking venture .... the actual work is rewarding as heck !!!!   The being on the same page of customers expectations and deliverable results for a reasonable $$$ is generally NOT on the same page.

I was going to have a work buddy 3D print a rear peep sight for my 2240 but a milled aluminum one crossed my mind.
Such a small part not sure if the project would be cost effective for either of us but PM me if you're interested.

As a suggestion moding a 2240 and 13xx valve and posting before and after chrony results might get you a fan base .....
A ton of us believe a 6fpe stock gun can be modded to a hunter....
Welcome to GTA sir.

Some of you wanted to see what I have done in the past. I found some of the crosman 1100/DAQ shot pistol Shells I made some of them are aluminum I don't do the stainless steel anymore, And one Was commercially made back in the day don't know if they do anymore.

Of course it won't let me post a friggin picture.

I'd start with something simple, e.g., 22xx SSG device in brass or SS that looks really nice---- send out feelers.

The ones I've seen are just too crude with hardware nuts looking like sore eyes.

You could replace those with something machined and knurled.

..or silencer adapters in brass, alum, or SS.

Complex stuff are not worth the effort, IMHO.

How about optical rail mounts that clamp onto a barrel like the Bsquare mounts that are discontinued.   I believe that they fit IZH, Sheridan and Daisy barrels.

The link above, is my thread, where I drew up a crude version of one to machine for myself.  I have no idea if the dimensions or proportions are correct, but will be finding out, as I make it and test it.  I'll probably make knurled jam nut adjusters, since they are easy to make on a lathe.

I would probably buy one for my Fortitude as well Bill. The key to getting a good customer base would make them fit just like the factory breeches. Everything stays the same height and simply have a drop in part.

This is the only functional SSG I could find pictures of, but there are other ways. I'm not savvy enough to discuss the design, I just know it prevents hammer bounce and the associated loss in efficiency.

Yes I actually want you to make two copies.
Since it's for the 30cal I technically don't need it until August15th earliest (squirrel season) or realistically October 15th starts Big Game here in Georgia.  I also own a powder burner for big game season so I just need it when you get done sir.
It is not a spare it is the sear of the trigger assembly.  The other two crummy pieces of aluminum are my attempts to mill the part using a cross slide vice

I have been working on a project to regulate my Diana Stormrider and increase the air cylinder capacity at the same time.
My trials are favorable but I need to clean up my plumbing.

I have mounted a 13/3000 air cylinder with a Ninja V2 regulator set to 1800 psi on the Stormrider barrel bands.
To simplify the air plumbing going into the gun I have designer an adapter instead of the standard fill / gage adaptor.

I am looking for someone to machine a couple of prototypes as I have no lathe to do it myself.
I will attempt to attach a drawing to this message. If I does not work out you can email me at xvw@aol.com

Thanks,
Bob

Dear GTA members,
I see folks are following this thread and hope Mr.Wolf is receiving just the amount of "retirement work" that he was looking for.  Recently he rescued my AEA30Challenger from a fractured sear.  The responsible thing to do is post my experience on this thread.

I installed the sear and chronoed 2 magazines before the airgun degassed it-self.  Hope the Huma regulator o-ring has folded itself again.  The operation of the trigger assembly is flawless.  Thank you again for the repair and speed and quality of your work.

Sorry guys, I have been getting many requests for tubes and tube extensions, Due to liability concerns I will NOT do those.

I cannot in good conscience Send out something that is a potential bomb, I understand we all have PCP guns and are safe when used correctly , But folks a lot smarter than me engineered those, and have plenty of money to back them up IF something goes wrong.

I did spend a lifetime filling my toybox to let some dead guys family take it all.

Thanx for listening to my rant.

There are now over 200 rounds through the Challenger with the repaired sear.  I did take advice and have received a factory AEA sear from FoxPro but for now the repaired sear is in the AG.  Again thanks!

Lots of goodies would sell like hotcakes.. if the prices are right.
Stuff like this is hard to price reasonable and factor in the r&d, materials and setup... unless pricing is based on volume of future sales. There in lies the risk.
Title: Re: Semi retired machinist looking for side jobs.
Post by: bear air on September 03, 2023, 06:45:04 PM
Absolutely. It would be rather difficult to choose which rifle to actually r&d and invest in making said modded parts. And price? I personally think $300 is too much for a side lever that I have to mod something to make it work. However $200 for one I can bolt on and go...all day long.

All very good points.

To have a home shop Machinist  who can do it all, Including the Hard anodizing would be hard to find who is not already busy.

And unless You actually have the airgun the customer wants modified, or similar, there will be a lot of back and forth shipping till you got it right.

It's the R&D that kills most jobs.

If you fabricate a Hammer spring cover/endplate with the pre-drilled and tapped hole you could sell it as a kit: Challenger Standard to (better than) FX poor man's conversion kit.  I followed that thread but am not as good a machinist as James and shied away from drilling into my endplate...

Well I have sheared the driveshaft of my GXPumps CS-1.
No joy from the manufacturer on parts so wondering if you could machine a replacement?
The diameter is .4426 if I'm reading my micrometer correctly.
Please PM initial estimate or further details.  Many thanks!

Do you do barrel work?

I have a 10" Kral .25 barrel ordered and currently on the way.

I'd like to have it fitted into my Hatsan Jet 1, so the O.D. needs fitting into the breech, a transfer port drilled and 2 O-ring channels cut around said port.

If you are thinking about using a F/A silencer on a air gun..... It doesnt work, I have tried and have both.
My experience is that they are 2 different Units.

I can do it , Crosman Barrels are not all the same , You say press on , and with a set screw. First a press on that is a  tight fit and as barrels can vary .005" from barrel to barrel through out the years of Mfg. I would need your barrel to get a Press fit, then it is almost permanent. I would be happy to do it for you, the Price would be  $75.

Thanx.

Mr. Jay, would you be able to do a silencer front cap but in brass and with a concave front to save weight?

This one is a rear end cap (threaded hole) and would be more or less the shape.

Gracias 👍

Would you be able to cut a marauder tube and rethread it for a bottle gun. I'm mulling around an idea for a little longer short tube to increase my plenum on my 30 cal.

Mr. Jay, would you be able to do a silencer front cap but in brass and with a concave front to save weight?

This one is a rear end cap (threaded hole) and would be more or less the shape.

Gracias 👍

I have a new AG I’d like to do some brass bling on and a silencer cap in brass would be a nice compliment.

Exactly like the one in the photo.

It looks like a concave flashlight reflector.

I had them, brass and stainless, made by one of my machinist friends in the Philippines for my HW silencers.

Had access to more than a dozen as I was very much into the banana industry at that time.

I would like a press on with set screw 1/2x28 adapter for a Crosman 2240.. mild steel.

Thanx.

Slip on fit I think would a better meaning, same as barrel dia and I'd sand till it just slips on with no slop.. I'll get some measurements tomorrow. That includes shipping right ?

Never mind. Went with a Buck Rail adapter and moderator setup. Got both for $65 shipped.
