I currently have two 1/2 hour fireman’s tanks that fill my PCP’s. I’m considering getting a compressor to fill the tanks and/or rifles. I know nothing about compressors so I’m asking for advice. I don’t want to mess around with water or oil cooling so I was wondering if the Yong Heng (linked below) would work for me? Cost is a consideration and the next size tank is around $650. The Avenger goes through air pretty quickly, even tuned down, and I’m getting tired of running to the dive shop for fills. I shoot twice a week in the winter and almost daily in the summer. Thanks in advance.

Without a link to the actual compressor you are referencing it's hard to say without know exact specs or price.
The GX Compressors are getting really great reviews and they currently have a 25% off offer if you sign up for their news letter.

They have a full range from small to large and their prices are pretty good. I have a new GX CS4 that is due to be delivered today. As far as I know, it's the only compressor under $1000 that will fill to 400 BAR! It is water cooled, but it's also self contained, so no water bucket. Their smaller compressors all fill to 300 BAR, which will fill your Averngers with no problem.
Just be aware, some of the smaller compressor are not suitable for filling tanks. I did find a nifty little one way valve made by Best Fittings that allows me to use my small portable compressor to fill my tank, it just takes a number of filling/cooling cycles to do so.
-
Thanks Paul. I especially appreciate the site to get a one way valve to fill the tank.
-
This is where I got mine, shipping was a good bit cheaper than getting it direct from Best Fittings.

It did take about a month to arrive from the UK, so don't be in a big hurry!

Thanks for the link. Finally went down the rabbit hole on the compressor. I ordered a cs2. Figured I won’t do better than 265 shipped. Ordered some service grease for it that target forge carries as well. I see he has quite a few parts for them too. Hopefully it lasts. I guess for 265 at least one year is covered by factory. Not too bad.
Do you use one of the bigger canister filters inline with yours? If so which one? Thanks.
-
Just FYI... those larger air filters will also be filled to pressure so they add that much volume work to your pumping session. And it gets bled off after each fill so you're basically wasting the compressor run time.
-
I like bigger compressors and fill my tanks. It seems easiest to me. The tuxing 032 is what I'd buy if my yong heng goes south. Direct from tuxing it's under 1000$. I've researched a bunch and this compressor is semi quiet and will fill a tank from empty without problems so topping off would be effortless.

I have one of these on my Hill Compressor:
https://www.amazon.com/Ymiko-Separator-Segregation-Filtration-Equipment/dp/B09CMFMJ5Y/ref=sr_1_23?crid=27VVS7MJKD6PW&keywords=pcp+air+compressor+filter&qid=1678827825&sprefix=PCP+air+filter%2Caps%2C263&sr=8-23 (https://www.amazon.com/Ymiko-Separator-Segregation-Filtration-Equipment/dp/B09CMFMJ5Y/ref=sr_1_23?crid=27VVS7MJKD6PW&keywords=pcp+air+compressor+filter&qid=1678827825&sprefix=PCP+air+filter%2Caps%2C263&sr=8-23)
I use it to fill my guns with the 480cc and larger air tanks that take a 250 BAR fill.
For my smaller compressor that I use to fill guns with smaller air cylinders or only take a 3000 psi fill, I just use one of the smaller in-line filters. The CS2 may already come with one of those.
https://www.amazon.com/QWORK-Separator-4500Psi-Pressure-Compressor/dp/B094JB3TKN/ref=sr_1_9?crid=27VVS7MJKD6PW&keywords=pcp+air+compressor+filter&qid=1678828037&sprefix=PCP+air+filter%2Caps%2C263&sr=8-9 (https://www.amazon.com/QWORK-Separator-4500Psi-Pressure-Compressor/dp/B094JB3TKN/ref=sr_1_9?crid=27VVS7MJKD6PW&keywords=pcp+air+compressor+filter&qid=1678828037&sprefix=PCP+air+filter%2Caps%2C263&sr=8-9)
As Bill pointed out, you are filling that filter with air everytime you fill a gun, so with a slower compressor likr the CS2, it can add a lot to your fill times, which equates to longer run times and higher operating temperatures. Unless you are filling a larger tank and will be running it for longer periods of time, the smaller filter should be all you need.
-
I have one of the big gold filters. I'm don't use it anymore so I'm going to convert it to a one or 2... maybe even 3, top off road trip filler bottle for my SPA pistol. It can hold 4500 psi and I will use the EdGun EaZy adapter to regulate the fill. I need to round up a shut off valve.
-
I use my Yong Heng at home to fill an Avenger and an S510. It fills them quickly. For field filling I use one of the new JTS compressors.
-
Everytime I think Im gonna get a compressor ,u folks show up with a new flavor (gun) of the week….lol…and a fixed income will only buy so much…right now JTS is on my to git list…good luck
-
Just buy one Phil... there will be even more, and maybe better, gun options by the time you are ready again. And if the JTS guns are worthy, more will be available.
A compressor will make your meantime shooting so much more enjoyable. I don't know if I would still be as gung ho about the whole hobby/sport if I was hand pumping or still running up and down the road chasing air to fill tanks.
Here is the downside to owning a compressor...
It's not like owning airguns where if one develops and issue you most likely have another one to shoot until you make repairs or replace it. With a compressor, if you don't have a tank or choose not to hand pump, you're dead in the water as far as PCP shooting. So my suggestion would be to properly care for the compressor and use it as it was meant to be used.... or, have a back up compressor. ;)
Another thing is... becoming air independent may spoil you. Your other guns may learn to hate you due to neglect, band together and attack you in your sleep.

I use an extra filter that is about 9.25 inches long and about 1.25 inches in diameter. It is filled with dessicant, mostly color changing beads. There is a short length of the dessicant it came with that is last in the airflow. I change the color changing beads before they all change color so I have not changed the original dessicant. I use my water cooled YH to fill my 45 minute (66 cubic foot) SCBA tank from about 3000 psi to about 300 bar. Takes about 15 minutes. It takes around half a dozen tank fills to get the color changing beads to change color.
I have one of the big gold Tuxing filters that is over a foot long and bigger diameter. But I see no reason to use it when the little one is doing the job and wasting less air.
What really gets wet each fill is the little absorbent filter the YH came with. I bought a bag of 100 from Aliexpress and change them after each tank fill. They catch a little oil too. They aren't soaked but I can squeeze out some water every time. I also vent every five minutes and not much comes out the first venting but the second and last venting there is obvious water coming out. So the filters are not seeing everything - but I don't really want them to. The extra filter is vertical and the stock filter is high enough it drains back towards the YH.
I got a one way valve from Amazon and put it in the output of the extra filter. That solves several potential issues including losing air from your tank when you vent the compressor. The only problem it creates, potentially, is you cannot plug the line from the extra filter to test the compressor or something because you won't have a way to vent it. I plug the line from the stock YH filter instead and I can the vent using the YH vent.
For a smaller xompessor filling guns I think you really don't want a filter a foot long and a couple inches in diameter. The blue one linked is bigger than I have and should be more than enough. If it came with a small absorbent filter like my YH came with another one like that should really be sufficient. But if you ever squeeze a bunch of water out of the second filter, I would upgrade it. I doubt you would. You do not need any charcoal in your filter, that is for when somebody will be breathing the air. I really like color change beads so I know when they need changed. I just filled my inner plastic tube up with them.

Those one way valves that Paul brought up are amazing, I had made one before finding out the Britts had one already, so I ordered one. It’s good for filling pony bottles not guns it’ll probably get air locked on a gun. The CS2 is great , it’s simple, it’s small, light , parts are available and customer service is responsive. I have several compressors yet I ordered the CS2 as a vehicle compressor. I think if you bleed off the air several times during the fill it should get rid of most if the moisture.

Why a CS2 instead of the Yong Heng? It’s $200 more with the same features. An extended warranty can be bought for the YH for $35. If the CS2 is a better compressor though, then that’s the way I should go. Thanks.
(Ultimately I will just be topping off my 1/2 hour firefighter tanks from maybe 3500 to 4500.)

I am looking for a back up to take to the field, I love my SB but it don't run in the field.
Have several Sage bunny spots where it is possible to shoot 50-100 shots per day.
I don't like carrying my SCBA Tanks around.
So I'll be checking out the replies also, ;) 8) Thanks Guys.

Okay, I'm no video guy, so please don't laugh! I just wanted to post a short video of the new GX-CS4 compressor I just got direct from GX Compressors. The price was really pretty good with the coupon code they provided when signing ou for their newsletter. Yea, I know, I'll probably get bombarded with spam now, but it did drop the price under $500! So, here goes nothin...
https://youtu.be/AvpIZNEB3Dk
I forgot to mention in the video that this compressor can be run in the upright position you see here, or on it's side. That big blank red sidewall of the compressor becomes the botton when laid on it's side! All in all, I'm pretty happy with it so far. I have not attempted to fill my 90ci taink yet, but it should fill it with no problem. I'll also now be able to actualy fill my Huben K1 to 350 BAR, something my Hill compressor won't do!
-
I've had a few of the small dry compressors and I got a refund on all of them. I tried two brands and models of compressors, "Orcair" and 'Vevor". Neither lasted beyond the warranty periods and the Orcair was replaced once before I got a refund. I still have the Vevor, but it needs help. My water cooled Yong Heng has been a faithful companion and can be rebuilt if/when the time comes. Long term I think the two cylinder compressors are the way to go.
For the field I would rather have one or more "pony" bottles (100-ish ci) than to pack out a heavy dry compressor. However, I do understand the appeal and its why I started my compressor journey with a dry compressor.
If I were forced that buy a dry compressor, it would be the new JTS compressor.

I wouldn't suggest the dry compressors for that bottle. Even just filling a 100 ci bottle with 10 minute duty cycles and 30 minute breaks was too much for my dry compressor. It died while filling a bottle.

That's where the little one-way valve Best Fittings has makes a huge difference! I topped off my 90ci tank using a little dry compressor, the one-way valve prevents any back pressure from loading down the compressor, and when you bleed the fill probe between fill cycles, it maintains the pressure in the tank. After it cools, just start the compressor and close the bleed valve and all that needs to get back up to pressure is the air in the fill whip. It's a pretty slick little part!
-
Not familiar with tanks at all—don’t they have a valve that can be closed to allow the same effect?
Close tank valve. Bleed compressor fill line. Stop compressor.
Close compressor fill line bleeder. Start compressor. When compressor fill line pressure is greater than tank, open tank valve.

Yes but life is easier with a one way adapter

Plus, remember than when you open the tank valve and you are at around 4000 psi or more on a 4500 psi fill, that 4000 psi blows back at the compressor when that tank valve is opened creating a lot of back pressure and strain on the compressor. The one-way valve prevents that back pressure, so the compressor only has to overcome that 4000 psi to open the oneway valve to allow more air in. Works just like filling your gun, once the air is in the tank, it stays there!

I wouldn’t get Amazon junk when dealing with Pcp fill pressures but at the end of the day it’s your $ and face. Just sayin ;)

Paul... that little inline one way bleed valve is something I'm going to get...
If you go to top off your tank from 3k to 4500, or what ever, you have to connect the the hoses, fire up the compressor and wait until the line pressure matches (or very close to it) then open the tank valve.
With that inline you just connect it and open the tank valve... the inline stops the tank pressure for going back on the compressor. When the compressor catches up to the tank pressure, the check opens and you're rockin and rollin. No manual pressure matching.
Am I correct?
-
I can answer that too (if you want :)) . I get my tank, connect the one way and open up the valve. I then connect the compressor and start, once the pressure on the compressor side overcomes the tank pressure it opens up
The one way valve-Easy easy easy , no more manual matching pressures
-
Got ya... would a male foster with a check in it like the ones on our guns basically do the same if used in an inline filter?
-
What Mike said! Now, I will say that when I did top off my 90ci tank, I used the smallest compressor I have which is the little Xisico whinka, whonka compressor, so it's slow, but steady. Using that one, I closed the valve on the tank and let the compressor build to over what the tank gauge was reading and then opened the tank valve. Having more pressure on the compressor side helped open the one-way valve faster. I'm pretty sure that won't be needed if I were using the Hill or Benjamin Compressors.
I bought from this guy, he's a one man show, but very responsive to emails. Shipping took a bit longer, but was cheaper than what Best Fittings is currently charging!

Basically put one of these on a tampon filter and an open one on the other end of the filter.

Ok, got ya... I may have a male foster fitting with a check in it somewhere around here. I think I'm gonna check it out... pun intended.. ;)
-
Got ya... would a male foster with a check in it like the ones on our guns basically do the same if used in an inline filter?
It might, but not sure how long it might last. There is a member here who did that aand said it works great. You could probably just screw a male foster with the check valve into a Female Foster and essentially have the same thing. This one has a check valve made for this purpose, so it may be more durable, longer lasting, safer, who knows, but even with the converstion rate, it only cost about $30 and I know Best Fittings makes quality stuff!
-
I hear, don't be cheap and save a finger or 2. ;)
I've experienced a male to male coupler left go at 3500 psi or so... it ain't no joke. It was like 2 rattlesnakes whipping around the room both trying to bite me.
-
My 1.6l Hatsan bottle does have a check valve. You don't have to open or close anything. Just turn on the water pump, chuck it up to the YH, turn it on, close the bleed, and wait.
Running a dry compressor even for ten minutes at a time is just too much for anything larger than a gun reservoir. Other people told me all the same things I'm sharing with you before I bought a dry compressor. I was warned but wanted to try anyway. Even if you take breaks on small or large bottles, you still have to run the compressor at its max pressure rating for a long time to top off a bottle. Heck, my first two dry compressors died filling my 250b fill big bore with 550cc reservoir.
After getting the 1.6l bottle (100-ish ci) and YH I shoot way more than I did even with a functioning dry compressor directly filling guns.

I have an OrcAir 12/110 dry compressor I picked up used here in the classifieds. It had a couple sketchy loose wires inside that I soldered and I had to hot glue the pin in the plug in connector. I've used on my bench filling my SPA PP800 crabine for all day shooting. It was very handy to have right on the shooting bench and worked great. No way I would try to top off any tank with it. That ain't what it's made for.
-
Yeah basically tanks are great but obviously they deplete if your shooting a lot. Small compressors are nice for direct gun fill but you need to be near a power source but you have unlimited air. I wouldn’t fill a large tank with a small compressor unless it’s like a GX CS4 that’s liquid cooled and has a long run time. Basically there’s a tool for every job. When I’m tuning or testing pellets I’m using my small
Compressor. When out in the field my primary source is a 74 cubic foot tank or a 18 cubic foot tank depending on what I’m doing. There’s always a hand pump in the van. The large compressor stays home to fill large tanks. Everything fails I have my 392:) I’m slinging lead no matter what.
-
I looked at it like that too Mike. But then I got to looking at case history.. real world stuff..
How often am I in the woods with no power around and need more than 30 or so shots?
That's either one record setting hunt or I can't aim worth a hoot and need to be back at the bench practicing or sighting that gun in. :o And even if I did, a couple top offs from a buddy bottle would be more than enough. I have a 30minute scba tank in a back pack.. the YH fills it with no problem. I can shoot a 3k gun off of that at 4200psi for a weekend or more.
I mean, even when we had the RV at the ATV park we had access to 30 amp power. And the YH don't weigh much or take that much space. A coffee can of water was plenty, if it gets warm, dump and refill it.
I picked up the OrcAir for $100 on an impulse. In realty, it will probably never see 12v from my truck.

I just used mine to fill my big bores, and it made a loud clunk and stopped while running off of my 12v tractor battery. I did use the Vevor to fill my bottle, but only after it stopped working on 12v power and Vevor refunded my money. At that point I was just waiting for it to die and then get a YH.

Well apparently I bought a GX-CS3 compressor. ;)
Betty Lou and I will take a drive Saturday and pick it up.

So…. My GX CS4 was delivered today. Ordered it Sunday afternoon and it was delivered today. I’ve been looking for another compressor, mostly to fill guns, but wanted the capability to fill/ top off tanks also.
My main compressor is an Omega Supercharger. I think I’ve had it for about 1 1/2 years and have 30+ hours on it. So the Omega Trail Charger was on my radar. When I read this thread and looked on the GX Pump web site, it was pretty obvious who makes Omega. Now that I actually have it in house, there is no doubt. Right down to the carry handle.
The one small sour note is, several pieces were missing in the spare parts kit. Emailed GX, so let’s see how customer support is.
Filled the water tank and ran the pressure up with the deadhead included. All seemed good, so I topped off a gun and then my small 90 cu. in. tank. I didn’t time it, but the tank top off took longer than I expected. Everything worked fine, just seemed to take longer. This compressor runs very smoothly and really quiet. Fingers crossed.
-
Thinking of a back-up for my original YH...and something 12v "portable"... following along.
-
Scott, these GX compressors are pretty nice. They are slower than what you are used to with the YH types but they are very quite and portable. The auto shutoff is a good feature. I have that on my MKII but I could never bring myself to trust taking my eyes off of it. Maybe because it filled guns so fast and with tanks I was dealing with alot more volume and was apprehensive.
With the CS3 On my work bench I can just connect the gun, press play and putter around the workbench until it shuts off. I can even still hear the radio playing while it's running.
My OrcAir 12/110v is also much louder.
-
I'mreally happy with my GX CS4 also, much faster than the Benjamin Traveler it replaced! My parts kit was missing the grease syringe, I e-mailed them and they said they no longer supply the grease and the manual had been updated. It would be nice if they posted the updated manuals to their website!
This is the one I got:

I did a review with pictures and a quick video in another thread.

I believe you are correct in your assumption that Omega is made by GX. While searching for availabity of spare parts, I happened upon a listing on AliExpress that has replacement parts and they are listed as either GX Omega or Omega GX!

I'm really happy with my GX CS4 also, much faster than the Benjamin Traveler it replaced! My parts kit was missing the grease syringe, I e-mailed them and they said they no longer supply the grease and the manual had been updated. It would be nice if they posted the updated manuals to their website!
This is the one I got:
https://gxpumpofficial.com/?ref=GXProducts
I did a review with pictures and a quick video in another thread.
Likewise Paul, I recently ordered the GX CS2 and the accessory bag was missing a First Piston Ring and some Burst Discs. The reply I got was that they need to be shipped from China and to contact them when my pump needs repair. I agree it would be nice if they updated their manual and did some QC on the Accessories.
-
GX does sell the accessories and rebuild kits direct from their website:
https://gxpumpofficial.com/collections/accessories?ref=GXProducts
It seems most of the products sold from this website ship from NJ, so turnaround time should be better than getting them from China, but I'm not 100% sure that is true of the accessories...
-
That is exactly why we need back up compressors... in case one breaks down and we have to wait for parts from China.

Burst discs are pretty universal, but based on past experience, you definately want to have the correct piston rings! On the YH theey seems to vary in size from month to month during the manufacturing process! Ordering a first piston ring direct from YH was no guaranty they would fit the model you had! I guess that's what you call Chin-Spec as opposed to Mil-Spec! :o :P ;D

I put in an order for an extra Accessories package and will let everyone know where it ships from since the pump shipped from New Jersey.
Scott... the CS4 would be more up your alley since my CS2 does not have an auto shut off.
My first impression was that it is quiet and quickly hit 3000 psi in 20 seconds in its test run.
Since my Disco is in the shop and the SynRod is fully charged... maybe this weekend for its first real action.
On the other hand I now have two Vevor hand pumps as back-ups.

Depends on where you are because mine shipped from SoCal they must have couple different warehouses

But my YH has been dependable as an anvil for 2 years...(knock on wood).
Brand loyalty is a thing of the past for most, but when I saw the original posted new variant earlier, I am inclined to give that a go. ::)

If you are wanting to fill scba bottles YH all the way. I just received my gx 2 and so far it’s good. Fills my FX Maverick compact 300cc bottle from 150 to 250 bar in 4 min. I have contacted gx though as the manual says an extra piston ring was to be included in the accessories bag but it wasn’t. Other than that it seems solid. Mine shipped from Ontario California. Only took about a week.

After reading all the replies and advice in this thread, I’m seriously considering a gx 4, which is built to fill 6.8L tanks, has an extended running time, and is rated at 5800 psi (which is overkill for my needs). A little more expensive, but hopefully worth the extra $.

Looks promising although I think GX has been building the much more expensive Omega Trail Charger for years and they’re built like tanks. Looks identical to mine. I’d get the GX. The only difference between the Omega and GX is my Omega come with Tod:) he’s the rep and he’s the nicest guy and helps me out always.

Somewhat of an aside—reading the descriptions of the various GX pumps, the CS4 talks about filling 6.8 liter bottles, while the CS3 is for upto 1 or 1.5 liters.
6.8 liters is nowhere near 18 cu ft, yet it appears even the CS3 can fill the 18 cu ft bottle in a couple of sessions or so.
Only thing I can think of is the 18 cu ft is talking about compressed air, while the 6.8 liter is talking about actual volume of the tank. Seems weird that different units of volume are used to indentify bottles.
Or … is there a better explanation out there?

From my understanding the 6.8 liter is a 74 cubic foot tank and the cs4 can fill it no problem.

Some tanks are rated by how much compressed air they hold and sometimes they are rated by water volume. It seems like SAE volumes are assumed to be under pressure and metric volume is of water.
I personally would not fill a 1-1.5L bottle with the CS3, my Vevor branded version of that compressor died after filling my 1.6l bottle a few times, even giving it lots of breaks and babying it. The CS4 is a much more appropriate compressor for filling larger bottles.

So... reporting back on customer support from GX Pump.
The day I received my order I first tried their online 'chat', but it was late evening so I didn't expect an immediate answer. However, there has been no response since then, and that was last Tuesday 3/21.
Immediately after trying chat ... sort of thinking that was going to be an automated type of response ... I sent an email, as directed from the bottom of the email notice that my order was delivered. I described the issue of the missing spare parts with a photo of what was actually received. Again, no response since last Tuesday.
Today I tried calling. Not surprisingly, that was a joke. Their phone line would ring a couple of times then disconnect. Tried three times. Followed by another email, which has so far gone unanswered.
Their web site does not list a rebuild kit for the CS4. Maybe too new or I'm not looking in the right place, but the other pumps have kits and parts listed. I'm beginning to feel customer support is non-existent. Sure hope this unit keeps working. :(
-
I’ve had a similar experience with the GX chat line. That’s concerning as the CS4 seems to have good specs for my application. I’m going to wait and see if you or I get some response before ordering. 😠

I didn’t receive the spare piston ring that was shown in the manual with my gx cs2. I did the same thing and responded to the email I got from them confirming my order. I actually got a response the next day. Unfortunately it was basically an F-U response. The email said they have none of these parts in the United States so they couldn’t do anything. He did ask in the email if he was being rude…lol. I just told him whatever, I knew going in that part availability here was scarce and I’d be in my own. I did tell him luckily bill from target forge has a bunch of gx parts so I will just order from him when it needs a rebuild. This is exactly why I ordered the gx as I knew there was part availability at target forge. These China companies sell them as a disposable commodity. They don’t care about anything but that payment you send for it.

I’m just looking at the 4 year extended warranty and it says that if they can’t fix it they’ll reimburse whatever I paid for it. There’s also free shipping for the warranty. Maybe that’s the way to go. Also, I’m in the process of checking to see if YH has an equivalent product.
Update…YH apparently doesn’t have a product that is equivalent to the CS4. The only thing they have that is close, you need an external water supply.

The CS4 is more robust than the YH compressor, but it's also more expensive and new to the market. The YH does require a separate water supply, but that's not as big of a deal as it sounds like. There are also available rebuild kits for the YH, but I expect there will be kits out for the CS4 before long. Admittedly the separate water supply for the YH makes it less portable, but unless you are shooting somewhere without clean water it's a non issue as well. I've carted mine to the range and friend's places for long shooting sessions and it was just fine.

How much water does it take? Would a 5 gallon bucket do? I am a longtime shooter, but I am new to compressors.
-
Yes, 5 gallons would do... but not really needed if just filling guns as recommended by the manufacturer.
I have used my YH to top off tanks and have yet to have an issue.
I also have a Vevor which, in my opinion, is just a cheaper built YH. I don't top tanks off with that one.. only guns.
We would take the RV to ATV parks and I would bring the Vevor along for camp shooting.
I would use a Folgers coffee container for water supply and never had an issue while just filling the gun as needed.
If the water would happen to get too warm, just dump the one gallon and refill the container.
-
I use a military style five gal water jug, but as Bill said, you could use anything. I'm filling a 1.6l bottle with the YH and so far so good. Eventually I'll get a 60 min SCBA or large HPA bottle and I plan on filling it with the YH, albeit with plenty of breaks. I keep run time to less than ten minutes at a time with a 20 minute or longer break. However, I don't think it ran for ten minutes when I filled the 1.6l bottle from empty, and it doesn't run much more than five minutes when going from 3k to 4.5k
-
I have a 30 and a 60 minute scba firemen's breathing type tanks. I top them off from 3k to 4200ish with the YH when needed and it does it in less than 10 minutes and temps never exceed 125f. That's with a 5 gallon water supply. I also keep a temp gauge on the water bucket and have never seen that water above 83f. That's after topping off the 30 minute and the 60 minute tanks with a 20 or 30 minute break between them.
The pump sits in the bottom of the bucket and the return line sits just above the surface. The temp probe hangs about halfway down into the water.
I haven't filled those tanks in some time now because I've just been filling guns directly.
Also, I recently rebuilt my Airmax Extreme MKII compressor for tank filling duty when needed.

More run around from GX Pumps. Replied that they do not supply a grease syringe anymore, even though the brochure/manual lists it. Even though I sent a picture of what parts I did receive, they want me to tell them what was missing. The parts list is written in CHINESE. How am I suppose to know? I don’t read or speak Chinese. That was the last I heard from them.
The unit is working good, so far, but I sure can’t recommend the company. Virtually no support.

LOL! I got the same response, they told me it was an old manual, but when I requested a copy of the updated manual... Crickets! Target Forge sells parts, when the time comes that I need parts, I'll reach out to them!
-
Geez guys... I'm starting to think we should buy 2 of everything.
-
After hearing about the lack of support from GX, I’ve decided against getting the CS-4, even though it does everything I need a compressor to do. Thanks for the warning guys. I just ordered a large tank from PA and I’ll do the scuba shop run when it gets low.

I think you will really enjoy the tank, especially if you have a place nearby to fill it. After you get tired of taking it to be filled a YH (or other latest and greatest water cooled compressor) will serve you well. I got burned a few times on compressors that were advertised to have great support and customer service. I went with the YH because this forum is basically the product support.
-
Yep, pretty sad GX won't respond, or responds with some lame response! I still believe they make a good compressor, just based on personal experience and the reviews of others, but a responsive support team would go a long way toward making folks feel they have someone to turn to in the event it's needed! But, that seems to be the typical business model for most Chinese companies!

I ordered the 2 tube grease kit for gx compressors from targetforge.com. He also has a bunch of parts. Not even worth trying to deal with these Chinese dil rods. Is what it is I guess. Mine works good for now.

Do you have the CS3? Target Forge doesn’t have CS4 parts yet—guess they will since they carry CS2/3

I have the CS4, GX doesn't even have the CS4 parts yet, I think it might be too new. Hopefully Target Forge will stock the CS4 parts as well once they are available.
-
But… it sure would be nice to get what you’re supposed to have when you pay for it.
Maybe Target Forge is a fall back… after warranty. The point is, no customer support what’s a warranty worth? And… if GX Pumps doesn’t have a parts kit in the catalog yet, where does TG get them?
It’s not just Chinese companies. I bought a night vision scope from a U.S. (Texas) based company and got the same treatment. Only difference was I bought through Amazon and it was easy to return. In this case, I’m sure return postage would be on my nickel and a compressor would be a big nickel. So, I’ll ride it out and recommend no dealings with GX Pumps.

You want good support you get an Omega

I know FB is not for everyone and a lot of folks want nothing to do with it. I'm not a big fan either, however, this morning I found the GX Pump FB page and sent them a message about parts availability for the CS4. To my shock and amazement, I received a reply within minutes and was told parts are currently on their way to the U.S. warehouse and would be listed on their website once they are available. So, anyone with questions, if you use FB, you may want to message them there, seems they monitor that more than e-mail... Also, I based on the response, I believe you'll be dealing with someone from the U.S., not China! There may be hope yet...
-
The info about parts is good news. Also, since it IS an Omega Trail Charger, those parts should be available. Although, Omega only claims 4500 psi. Could be a liability thing.
Still, no support through the website is a no no. I don’t do FB, so that’s not an option for me. Also, based on the wording in my email reply, I was dealing with someone that English was not their first language. Not sure if they were US based or not.
-
Question…is the CS4 literally identical to the Omega or is it just a cheap imitation? There’s a $100 difference in price.
-
At the very least, it is newer and able to fill to a higher pressure.
TBD on quality. There are some reviews on it and a look at the internals. Look at the bottom of the page for more https://blog.roninsgrips.com/the-gx-cs4-compressor-isnt-replacing-the-cs3-models-the-cs4-is-for-people-who-need-to-fill-6-8l-tanks-or-need-more-air-in-general/
-
Chances are the Omega is made by GX Pumps and just rebranced as an Omega. There are many different brands of small protable compressors currently on the market that appear to be identical to the GX Compressors. Then again, all those GX Compressors could be made by someone else, it's really hard to tell these days...

My Xisico portable compressor is a GX-CS3.

Hey Bill, I hope you were safe from those tornadoes. Incidentally, and a little off topic but since I’m the OP I guess it’s ok. TorqueMaster and Subscriber designed a very inexpensive LDC that they call the Plume. I got two, one 2” and one 4”, both do a good job of quieting the Avenger and neither cause clipping.
Back to the Xisico, how is their customer service?
-
I have been in communication with GX Pumps, through the FB Messenger, over the past couple days and they have been pretty responsive. I mentioned the concern voiced here about lack of response to e-mails and how people are concerned about the appearance of lack of support. They asked what airgun forum I was on, so I sent them a link. With any luck, they may start monitoring the posts here and see what folks are posting. It would be nice if they became a member and started responding to concerns directly to members here on the forum!

Yeah, I've been reading about the 'Plume".. I don't have much use for suppressors around here.. I've tinkered with some stuff but that's all it was... tinkering.
As for Xisico. I don't know, I've not had to use their customer service yet... Knock on wood.

Thanks Paul, maybe GX will wake up and run the business like they should.
-
There’s a CS2 for sale in the classifieds. Depending on shipping, could be a good deal.
-
My large 6.8L Air Venturi tank arrived today from PA. They’re still on super sale. I’ll wait on the GX company to get their act together.
GX, I hope you’re paying attention to this thread!
-
As of today, GX is still dancing around with me. They still act like they don’t understand what I’m missing. They asked for a picture of the parts I’m missing. Does that make sense? How can I send pictures of what I don’t have? So, I listed all the parts of the ‘spare parts’ kit as missing.
I hope GX decides to monitor this forum and respond to concerns. Again, I’m not sure if I’m communicating with someone in the US or not, but the response doesn’t sound like it.
How much trouble, or cost, would it take to just send a complete spare parts kit and be done with it?

I’d get the Omega Trail Charger if I were you if you can swing it

After several email back and forths with GX Pumps the real problem has been revealed. The brochure/manual packed with my compressor has been replaced by a different one. They just didn't bother to make corrections to shipments.

This is what was packed with my compressor. Sorry, the scan from my computer didn't come out too clear.

This what they sent me two days ago. Which shows that I got the parts I was supposed to get, but...

This is the updated version I received today. This is a different list and picture. Who knows what's going on? I'm not sure they do. Well, they probably do, but no one else does.
-
Thanks for sharing the updated parts list. Not sure I can follow it to try and work on it, but it's something! :o

Lol I’m a tech and I wouldn’t even mess with it.

I don't understand, GX has a product to be a market beater, but product and spare parts support negate this advantage.
Why don't they listen?
Maybe someone should send them some forceps. In the medical world they seem to work on pulling heads out of .....
-
Spare parts are...spare, mostly 1 of each, however you do get 5 brust discs! ;D
These things still use those little dinky springs (part 14 in spare parts)? At least they supply 2 of those but, those are so tiny/flimsy, no wonder they are a high wear item lol.

My compressor shipped from NJ, which is why I got it in a couple of days. I live right next door in DE. But…I’m pretty sure the emails are coming from outside the US, presumably China. The sentence structure and the fact that all the responses are sent after 9 PM, which would be morning in China, support the theory.
It would be interesting to have a qualified tech tear down an Omega and a GX side by side. The Chinese can build good stuff if they are contracted and the contractor specifies the quality of the build. Left on their own, sometimes they use parts of lesser quality. However, it would be hard to judge quality from the look of a part in a small picture in a brochure.
-
From my understanding, they have multiple warehouses they ship from and ship from the one that's closest to the delivery address. Makes good business sense, since in this Amazon World we live in, folks expects things delivered in a matter of days!

If you make a product that is bullet proof and lasts for ever you will sell one to each customer. If you make a great product that folks rave about but has limited lasting, you can sell rebuild kits and make a little more money as time goes by.
But, a good product with great reviews often results in repeat sales for products 2.0 and so on.
It's marketing 101.
-
About the only thing you could probably buy one of and have it last forever, would be an anvil!!!! :P ;D

Good ol' planned obsolescence. If you ever heard real old timers complain about lightbubls, they are right. The "Phoebus Cartel", composed of lightbub manufacturers, got tired of not selling a lot of bulbs, and they all agreed to lower the quality so people would be forced to buy more.

Oh yeah, it's a fact.
-
Thus the reason warranties typically run between 90 days and one year! They design them to fail right after they come out of warranty! ;D
-
One must compare the cost of a compressor over its expected life span to cost of having tanks filled, or energy exserted by hand pumping. ;)

Trust me, it takes time and energy to hand pump and to even get out and get tanks filled. IMHO the convience of a compressor is well worth the price of admission, even if you do have to pay that price every year or two! ;D

100%.. if I didn't enjoy shooting airguns I wouldn't... hand pumping would not be enjoyable to me...
Save that for you whooper snappers. ;)
I've really leaned to love the slower fill rate of the CS3.. I set the autostop, push play and go about my business of the workbench until "ding, fries are done". I know just about how long it should run to fill the guns I use and if it seems to be running long, I glance over to see that the autostop has not failed.
My other compressors fill way too fast to take my eyes off of.
-
Yep, slow and steady is not a bad thing! Since they run so cool, you're not having to constantly keep an eye on the temperature gauge either. Yea, I added one to my CS4, but it's really a joke, I've yet to see the temp rise above 80-85F!
-
I've put my hand on the case and the power supply after several runs and never felt the slightest amount of heat.

How did you select the temp gauge from all the available ones?

The one I have on the CS4 is one Bill [avator] had shown me. It runs off external power through a USB Charger, not a battery like some of the others. Plus, it's color, so it's purty! ;D

Yes, I use these.... one thing I will say is... the gauge hash marks are fake.. they do not move with temp increase and decrease. But the digital read out works really well and the LED makes it easy to read. And, it's in Fahrenheit.
I have my water pump and and this gauge plugged into a power strip. I plug the compressor directly into the wall outlet. I know that if the gauge is not lit up then my water pump is not running... just a handy little reminder.
And just for gits and shiggles, I change the pin inside that factory gauge that came with the YH from C to F. I nw use that gauge in my water supply bucket just to get read on water temps. Just leave the probe dangle in the water about halfways to the bottom.
-
Thanks guys!
Yep the color sure caught my eye!
That’s pretty funny about the hash marks, although they might have something to do with it being an aquarium thermometer.
Looked at a few others via the “related items.” Lots of nifty items!

So you plug the USB into a phone charger?
-
Kinda sorta.... Many chargers come with the outlet adapter. Some do not. This does not. I think they are referring to the outlet adaptor when they say phone charger.
-
So you plug the USB into a phone charger?
Yes, any standard USB phone charger should work. I have an outlet strip with a couple USB ports built in and I just plug it in that, then when I turn it on, it powers on the inverter and the temp gauge.

Hey Paul, Some pictures would help us see your set-up !
-
Here are some pictures I previous took:
First is the temp gauge mounted to the top of the compressor. I 3D printed the bracket, believe I found it on Thingiverse.
Second is the power supply/Inverter. I mounted a piece of plywood to the back of my workbench and then mounted the power supply to it so it's under the bench and out of the way.
Third is the temp guage probe zip tied to the fins of the outer cylinder of the compressor.
I ran the temp probe wire through the air circulation opening on the back of the compressor housing. It's not shown, but the outlet strip is just zip tied to the back leg of the work bench right under the compressor so it's easy to just flip the switch on the outlet strip to power everything on when I'm ready to fill.

One thing to keep in mind....
Max fill on an Avenger is 300 bar... that's 4360 psi. I choose to fill that gun with my YH due to the speed of it.
The CS3 can do it, just takes longer.

Yep, my Huben takes a 350 BAR fill, that 5076 PSI, the CS3 won't do that, but the CS4 will! I've had the Huben for almost a year, and the first time I've ever been able to fill it to it's max was a few weeks ago when I got the CS4!
-
Yep, I'd just rather not work the CS3 that hard when I have other compressors that do it just fine. As for the 3k and 3300psi guns... CS3 all day long no problem.
