I was just on the Gamo web site reading about this rifle.
It looks to be a pretty good set up and at $209.90 + shipping it is price very competitively.
If I did not already have the two Hatsan 125 rifles I would be real interested in this one.( I still might be)
At 6.88 pounds, it comes in at around 2 1/2 Lbs lighter weight than my two Hatsan 125's.
Has anyone bought this rifle ?
If you did, how does it shoot for you ?
What are the Pro's & Con's ?
I am assuming that the stated weight of 6.88 pounds is un-scoped, is that Right ?

Kevin, Thank's for the video post.
I just watched the Airgun Detectives video on this rifle, very impressive.
If a person put on a Diana ZR scope mount and a little better scope this would be quite a hunting rifle.
I looks like it would be pretty much bullet proof and trouble free.
Thank's again !

I too have had my eye on this one. Looks like a solid no frills kind of thumper. That’s my style.

The prices are at the upper range of my acceptable limits for this type of rifle. I have been interested in this model for quite awhile.and am very tempted BUT... I'm not happy with parts availabiliry for the one Gamo I aready own. Thanks for posting but I'm going to pass. One Gamo springer is enough for me :-)
-
If a second-hand one turned up for about 100 bucks, I would consider getting it.

UPDATE : 12/2/2023
1. I bought the .22 cal. Gamo GR Magnum Spring Piston rifle yesterday evening.

I applied a $20 discount code + free shipping for a Total of $169.90
2. I bought a Hammers 3-9x40 AO Mil Dot rifle scope for it today this morning.
Amazon has them listed for $65 right now. My wife has Amazon Prime and was able to get it foe $49 + Free shipping.
3. I am currently shopping around for a Diana Bullseye Zero Recoil scope mount too.

Hi Rudy.
Thank you kindly for your your reply.
Once it arrives and I get the new scope mounted I'll post pictures.
A review will come later after I have shot it a while and get a good feel for it.

looks like the rifle could be scope only as the comb looks too high for comfortable open sights shooting.
From what I saw on Airgun
detectives, the way he was moving the rifle around it seemed very light.

Hi Hugh.
Thank you for your reply and sharp insight.
I had the self same thoughts about this rifle as you did.
That's something I'll know for sure.... when mine arrives.

I have a Gamo Magnum GR and it is really a scope only gun due to comb height. Also due to weight the gun has quite a recoil. Shook my Gamo BSA 3-9X40 AO scope AO adjustor loose after about 100 shots. Supposedly this scope is magnum air gun rated.

Hi Mark.
Thank you for your reply.
I especially thank you for your helpful input about your Gamo Magnum GR.
Good Stuff There! These are good things to know for anyone looking at buying this rifle.
By The Way Sir: If you don't mind my asking, what Caliber do you have, .22 or .25 ?
As for me, I pretty much figured by the high comb stock that it would work best with a scope. Least wise, that is what I will be using.
It will be interesting to see how the recoil and accuracy matches up to my two .25 & .22 Caliber Hatsan 125 magnums.
.
They are both coil spring rifles too. I suspect that the recoil will be more because the Gamo weighs less.
I just may order a recoil reducing scope mount and not use the Gamo stop shock setup.
Here is the scope mount that I am thinking about ordering.
https://www.amazon.com/MIZUGIWA-Dovetail-Profile-Recoil-Compensation/dp/B081C8W173/ref=sr_1_7?crid=WMHXBDRFTBUY&keywords=mizugiwa+scope+mount&qid=1701553389&sprefix=mizugiwa%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-7
Others members here from GTA and a friend, who posts only on AGN, have highly recommend it.
I'll make that decision after I receive my 22 caliber Gamo Magnum GR.

Things are starting to come together nicely.
The Hammers 3-9x40 AO Mill Dot Scope with 1 Pc. Mount that I ordered for the 22 cal. Gamo Magnum GR rifle arrived yesterday afternoon.
That was quick, I ordered it at 7:30 am on Dec. 2 and it arrived around 2.pm on Dec. 4.
It came boxed really well.
The outer box had lots of packing inside.
Inside the outer box, the box that the scope was in, was wrapped in sealed plastic.
Then inside the scope box, the actual scope was wrapped in plastic too with one layer of thin styrofoam sheet covering the scope.
I checked it out and it was in seemed to be in good working order.
As yet, I am still waiting for the rifle to get here.
Best Wishes - Tom

I heard good things about the Hammers scope may be a better choice than my BSA 3-9X40 AO recommended by Airgun Detectives who I think does great reviews. The BSA scope I mentioned still holds zero it's just the AO adjustor that came loose which is annoying, but the scope is still useable. My gun is a .22.

Update:
It won't be much longer now.

The 22 cal Gamo magnum arrived yesterday in good shape and double boxed. It is noticeably ligher in weight than my two Hatsan 125's. Cocking force and recoil is about the same. I cleaned the barrel and took a few shots. Real nice, if you like the big magnums. My computer crashed. I am doing this on my flip phone. Forgive me if I do not reply. I will mount a scope after break in. The new Hammers scope is here too. More later after I get my computer issues resolved.
-
At last. I have been waiting for this gun to arrive. Now i am waiting for your review .
Ps . I always enjoy your best wishes.
-
The high cheek riser on the buttstock can be removed to allow use of the barrel mounted open sights. I have done this. To do this a T20H tamper resistant torx bit is needed to take off the rubber recoil pad. The riser then can be removed. Re-install the recoil pad and you now have an inline buttstock. I wrapped the buttstock with adheasive fabric camo tape. There are rubber inserts in the recoil pad that can be removed for more recoil cushioning. Best Wishes - Tom

I sighted in my 22 cal. Gamo magnum tnday at around 15 yards with the open sights. I was shooting crosman hollow points while standing with the rifle braced on a door frame. The rifle hits hard. No spring buzz. Front sight is small and does not obscure the target. I was able to achieve quarter size shot groups. I will break in rifle with open sights. Shot maybe 60 shots today.
My computer crashed..
Posting with my flip phone is NOT WORTHY.
Third try.

Congratulations on the new rifle!
The Magnum is a very strong airgun, your model being spring powered is probably best in the long run. Hope you enjoy it and looking forward to how things go as it breaks in.

It was 15 F and snowing when i sighted in my rifle yesterday with the open sights. There was a 12 mph north west wind with gusts up to 20 mph. It was too cold for stick on targets to stay stuck on anything. It took me 4 shots to achieve sight in. After sight in I shot metal spinners.
Best Wishes - Tom
-
15 F. That is cold . I have never been anywhere that cold that must have some effect on the rifle. Less runny oil etc.with out putting a damper on a fun time your group at 15 yards would be much bigger at 25 or thirty yards but it is still very early in the break in period . Just a note that some Gamos have lose stock screws from the factory Does the rifle have a press fit pivot pin or a proper bolt. I have not had a Gamo that has not benefited from attention to the plastic muzzle brake and crown.bit early for that though when you are just enjoying getting to know yiur new gun I hope it just looks good and you enjoy handling it . Good news about the removable comb. You can make you own to get it just how you want it .
-
High Hugh.
I agree, you are right.
I have not been trying for max accuracy yet. I will do that after break in and after I get the scope mounted.
Basically I am just shooting for break in. It is good enough for that.
I am shooting until my fingers go numb from the cold and I loose precise trigger control. Then I go in and warm up. Once the feeling returns in my hands I go back out and shoot again.
I have two spinners out now. One painted white at 15 yards and another one at 25 yards. I have been hitting both.
Best Wishes - Tom

Hello Tom and Gentlemen!
I'm looking forward to following your progress with the GR! Seems like your diving right into it.
I received mine yesterday. Today I set up the F-1 Shooting Chrony and ran 25 pellets across it.
I only used Crosman Premier 14.3 grn. Domed pellets today, I'll try others in the future.
This being my first springer, I have to say it does have quite a bit of recoil for an air gun!
Here's the results;
High Fps 932.5 High Fpe 27.6
Low 910.3 Low 26.3
Mean 920.22 Mean 26.88
There were only 2 shots that were 910, and 2 above 930. It was kinda all over the place high 920's thru the teens.
I did purchase some "Tune in a Tube" that Air Gun Angie used in a video I saw. It seemed to produce a more uniform spread.
I haven't received it yet. I'm not sure what the break in period is but I'll retest after about 100 rounds then retest after applying the Tune in a Tube.
Stay Warm!
Cheers!

basically at sea level (San Diego). This Pyramyd Air blog states it nicely.

Hi Rich.
I measured the cocking force, on my rifle, 3 times with a digital bathroom scale.
Each time it peaked at 55 lbs.
I can cock it 5 or 6 times with one hand.
After that it is two hands.
I have got around 250 shots thru it now.
I will be mounting my scope soon.

I mounted the new Hammers 3-9x40 AO Mill Dot scope yesterday, on the 22 cal. Gamo Magnum GR rifle.
I sighted, this morning, at 30 yards shooting crosman hollow points.
I was able to cover the last four shots with a dime.
The time was 8 am.
22 F.
No wind.
I was shooting seated with the rifle braced on a doorway's upright frame.
One thing that I really like about this gun is the stock screws are torx screws.

Looks good to me .

All the stars must have been in the right place.
I just got lucky this morning.
I doubt if I will do that well next time.
Besides 4 good shots don't tell the real story.
The real story comes to light with 20 or 30 shots.
This morning I quit while I was ahead.
My hands were getting cold !
Best Wishes - Tom
-
Good Gamo, eh Tom. Looks like it is doing well for you. There will be off days but more good days to come. I just can't comprehend the cold that you experience; just not in my experience.
By the way, i called at Gun City to buy some pellets yesterday . They had a BSA Spitfire and a CFX and a gen 3 Gamo magnum in the rack. I wanted one of each and I already have a CFX and a Spitfire
Just a little boy in a toy shop

Hugh.
I can not say it is a good gun just yet. It is still to early.
I can say that it looks like it might be.
Actually the weather here in Minnesota has been relatively mild, so far this winter. Winter temperatures can get down to - 20 F. or even colder.
I shoot with gloves on when that happens.
This rifle will never be in the same class as the high quality German rifles.
What I want it to be is a reasonably accurate, all weather, hunting rifle .
Best Wishes - Tom
-
Pretty Nice group! Especially in those temps. I grew up in New Jersey and remember it getting to cold to breath, it actually hurt your throat. You could only be outside for a
short time.
I received this Tune in a Tube today, (along with some excellent bathroom reading material!). I'll give it a shot and post any changes when I can. I work 10 hr. days and go to work
in the dark and come home in the dark this time of year. I'm enjoying your results though. I figure I'll start out with the scope Gamo provided and see how she hold up.
I'll have some time after Christmas, and hopefully post some results too.
Keep up the good work! Stay warm!
Cheers!

My thoughts on my Gamo Magnum GR.
It handles & points well. It weighs 8 1/3 lbs with the scope that I have on it.
Trigger is ok. As stated it is about 3 lbs. I am good with the the trigger the way it is.
The cocking force is strong but that is to be expected whth a magnum breakbarrel rifle.
It has a recoil to it but not as sharp as a Benjamin NP XL 1100.
It is not overly loud. About a 3.
It appears to be reasonably accurate but many more shots must be taken to know this for sure.
So far .... I have not found anything that I could fault wit on my rifle.
Best Wishes - Tom
-
Well guess I can say that the gun has some power to it.
At 25 yards it shot thru a box with a steel can in it. The lid was inside the can.
-
Thankfully no Beans were harmed during the making of these photos.
I'll see if I can put together some power experiments too.
Did the pellet lodge in the back side of the can?
-
Rich as I tried to show with the entrance & exit holes, it blew thru all of it and out
of the box too.
Look and see what it did in my next reply.
-
Here's one for ya!
This is a quarter I shot through a Chronograph, Crosman domed 14.3 gr pellet. 926 fps. 27.2 fpe. Granted the muzzle was only about 5 feet away.
Pretty impressive though. Sadly, one President was injured during the making of these photos, however, is expected to make a full recovery.
-
Here's a couple more,
You inspired me Tom!
-
And another
-
It would be interesting to take a hammer and punch and actually hit the quarter to realize the power it would take to make it look like that.
-
I did not shoot any quarters but I did another box shot. Same as before only this time I duct tape a 3/4 pine board to the box. The board stopped the crosman hollow point but not by much. The pellet penetrated 5/8 of an inch into the board.
-
Rich your shots on the quarters are amazing. I can see stress cracks on the back of the first quarter. It almost made it thru.
-
Maybe tomorrow I will give these bad boy pellets a try at a quarter.
-
Bill & Rich
Here is a plugged nickle.
I taped it inside a cardboard box then covered the open end with saran wrap.
I shot it from 5 feet away.
-
Man, that's impressive.
You can chrono a gun all day but numbers don't really show impact like this does.
I shot a dime at 30yds once and never could find where it landed. I wasn't thinking about the impact, I was just showing of the accuracy to a buddy. lol
-
You made a Volcano out of that nickel! Almost made it through! One more well-placed shot would for sure.
It's got some power for sure.
Cheers!

Update: 1/14/24
I have been wanting to test the performance of the .22 cal. Gamo Magnum Magnum under severe winter conditions.
I decided to do that this morning at around 9 am.
The outside temp was -7F and there was a 15mph cross wind, consequently the wind chill was around -28F
I placed a 2 liter pop plastic bottle out at around 25 yards.
There was a 1 inch stick on target spot on the bottle but it was too cold for it to stay on. It fell off after the first shot.
I let the rifle set outside for around 15 to 20 minutes to cool down to the outside temps.
I shot a five shot group. I had originally intended to shoot ten shots but my trigger hand got too cold.
I took the first shot with gloves on and the shot pulled somewhat to the right.
I removed the glove from my right hand and took the next four shots.
I was shooting standing with my rifle braced on an upright doorway.
The last four shots were about 1 inch in diameter and could be covered by a quarter.
I aborted the last five shots as a caution against frostbite in my ungloved hand.
All in all, I think the .22 cal. Gamo Magnum GR rifle did OK in this morning's cold weather.
Best Wishes - Tom
-
Brave man Tom, lol I would not be needing to test at these cold conditions, anything I would want to shoot should be warm and comfy somewhere in the woods ;) Great to see the gun does not mind :)

Hi James.
Thank you for your reply.
I just wanted to see how this new rifle would do under less than perfect weather conditions.
The last thing I wanted was to get out in the woods with this rifle and then have problems.
I think that this test satisfied my nagging curiosity.
Small game season ends for me the last day of February.

-
Great results, but especially under these conditions and I would say test completed successfully :D
-
Good Gamo Tom . They just keep holding a comfortable spot in my regard. I always feel confident out in the paddocks with my Hunter Maxim .
We just don't have cold temperatures here . Never wear gloves . Never have to worry about being too cokd for CO2 guns. Seldom have frost and never in our part of the village .
-

Hi Rudy.
Thank you for your reply.
So far I'm happy with this new rifle. I like the weight of this gun as compared to my Hatsan 125's.
You had asked me once if this rifle is hold sensitive.
Maybe a little more that my 125"s but not much.
This rifle would not be a good choice for any serious target shooting but it appearers to be hunting accurate out to 25-30yards.
This spring I will try it out on paper a target at 50 yards and see how it does.
Up till now I have only shot Crosman Hollow Points in this rifle.
I have Air Arms , JSB pellets, including JSB Hades and a plethora of others that I would like to try out in this rifle to see if they are more accurate.
I'll do that next spring when the weather is more suitable for several hours of testing.
When I do that I think that I'll rig up some sort of a bench to shoot from.
Best Wishes - Tom

Hi Hugh.
Cold winter weather is just a fact of life here in Minnesota.
We have had a very mild winter up until the last few weeks.
All thru November and December the temps on some days would get up into the mid 30's and mid 40's.
We are in an arctic cold snap right now. (polar vortex)
It looks to be on the cold side for the rest off the week but warm up to 8F - 12F from Tuesday on thru the remainder of this week.
Best Wishes - Tom
-
Looks to warm up to 8F-12F.
Remember to drink lot's of water Tom, don't get heat exhaustion.

I got to do some plinking last weekend with my brother and the GR .22. He was using the Icon .22 I got him for his birthday/Christmas present. We were shooting at a pellet trap,
the Atflbox that has spinners, you can also remove the spinners and affix paper targets to sight in. They make a lighter gage one for airguns, and a heavier gage one for rimfire.
I bought the rimfire one for durability. It is good size and stout! About 20 lbs, with free shipping for $59. I highly recommend it. I wasn't sure if a pellet rifle would be able to spin the
heavy gage steel spinners. Both the Gamo and Icon did easily at 20 yards, but we both noticed a distinct difference in the sound of the impact between the two guns, the GR had
a louder "THWACK" when hitting the steel. At the end of the day, I wasn't hitting the target anymore. The scope it came with may have shifted. It was getting dark and there wasn't time to test it out.
Our shooting session was all with 14.3 gn. Premiers.
Yesterday I wanted to try out a lighter pellet, H&N Baracuda Green 12.96 gn.
Here's what I got for a 10-shot string over the F-1 Chrony:
975.1
965.5
963.8
971.5
964.5
971.8
970.4
967.8
967.3
964.7
Mean fps 968.24 Mean ftlbs 26.97
Pretty impressive!
Enjoy, Have Fun!

Update 2/10/2024
I have had the .22 cal. Gamo Magnum GR rifle out hunting and it has done well.
The rifle is sighted in with .22 cal. Crosman 14.3 gr hollow points.
So here is something that I recently have discovered about my rifle.
It will also shoot .22 cal. Gamo 15.4 Red Fire Hunting pellets with virtually no POI shift.
I can switch between these pellets without having to adjust the scope.
Below are 2 posts that I posted in the Hunting Gate.

Here is a separate post by Odin's_Mercy (Mike) about his Gamo Magnum Rifle.
There is a lot of good info in this thread.

Hi Rich.
Very Nice.
It seems to be holding up well under the heavy hits from your rifle.

Yeah, Tom it seems to have held up better than your "Nice sized artic squirrel's" ;D as Backroads put it. Nice shooting, and thank you for the tip on the Red Fire's,
I mostly use the Premiers I'll give them a try.
Cheers!

I picked up a version of the low powered trap at TS, for my SSP Barra Jr. etc. my .22 Barra CO2 .22 left nasty dents at 410 fps, so if anyone is looking at the light weight version, keep its use to .177 pea shooters ;)

Hi Rich.
I have several other brands of pellets that I am anxious to try out later on this spring, when the weather warms up a bit.
I have about 4 different types of JSB 's in .22 cal, up to and including JSB Hades.
Last year I scored 2 boxes that were full of .22 & .25 pellets, thru the GTA Classifieds and the Pay It Forward Gate.
All in all, about 35 to 40 pounds worth for a cost of around $20.
I also got some .177 cal. pellets too but mostly the others.

Thank's James.
That is good information to know.
I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

I don't know Tom...
You really started something.
I just bought another.
I got one for my son, it'll be a couple years before he can cock it, maybe about 3 years. He's twelve.
20 bucks off and free shipping, hard to beat a rifle like that for under $200.
If you run across any more deals keep it to yourself! ;)
Happy Hunting!

Hi Rich
Good deals are addicting a and hard on the bank account.
I am glad that you could use that discount code.
I almost got another one in 25 caliber, I still might.
I really like these Gamo Magnum GR rifles, they are pretty nice in my book.

my new gamo magnum gr /.22 is being broken in with bore cleanings. It turns the patch black but does not smoke . It can smell like burnt oil when I check the target. Groups are 1 or 2 inches across. I like the open sights.

Hi Kirk.
Keep us posted on your new rifle.

If the patches are black then you don't have a clean barrel to start with.
Get some GooGone, soak a clean patch in it and pull once or twice from breach to muzzle, then pull clean dry patches until they come out as clean as they went in. This will start you with a clean barrel, then shoot about 200 cheap, I usually use CPHPs, to 'season' the barrel. Once you do that then you start looking for tighter groups and that 'one' pellet that the gun shoots the best. Once the one is found then you don't clean the barrel again until it starts to lose accuracy again, groups widen.

The cocking is getting smoother. The bore is clearing up after 5 or 6 passes. I have a metal .177 ramrod and I would prefer a pull-through cleaner made of weedeater cord or a teflon covered rod. It has some serious recoil and the cocking force is a lot like my Hatsan 135. -Kirk
-
You can also use fishing monofilament leader line. No need to use a steel rod.
-
The cocking force pulled a back muscle . It is too much to cock right now.

Hi Kirk.
I'm so sorry about the pulled muscle in your back.
The cocking force is a bit stout on my rifle too.

I have the GAMO Hunter Extreme Ultimate .25 make 37.5FPE with GTO 16.54g...WOW is this normal.
-
What was the velocity. According to AirGunDepot calculator it would take a velocity of 1010 fps. I think the velocity on that model shows 1000 fps max, so is probably correct. WOW - indeed.

Has anyone try H&N Baracuda Green .25 Cal 19.91g in a Gamo .25 cal. I know the H&N FTT 20.06g very accurate in my Hunter Extreme.
