Title: Crosman 1400 question
Post by: LOKEY on May 01, 2022, 05:52:10 AM
I am looking at this to buy. I only have this pic and I can't personally see it until next week. My question is have any of you seen a 1400 with the white plastic between the barrel and pump tube. It looks different than any I have seen.

Never mind. After searching I see it is most likely made by Sears that's why it's white. I hope it has the heavier barrel some had. I will see next week.

This looks like second variation, has the white liner, and scope grooves. Made for Sears by Crosman. If it needs seals its not too difficult, there are YT videos that show the process of disassembly and reassembly, or you can send it out to get it done  by a professional.

Buy it! Now!  IMO the Sears model 126.19300 is the ultimate 1400!  The gun is stone hammer simple and rugged.  Parts are available for reasonable prices.  They are handy, accurate, 12-13 fpe guns.

I can't or I would. I have to wait until next week but I am definitely going to go after it.

I am pretty handy at resealing these old pumpers so I should be fine with it. The pump handle in the pic has dropped slightly so I bet it needs seals.

Yeah, good luck!  I think it’s an early one with the 140 style bolt cover.  I don’t recognize the scope mount.  It appears to use the back sight screw holes and the rear assembly screw to anchor the mounts.  I’d like to know more about that if you do get it.

I was wondering about the scope mount my self. If I get it I will post really good pics.

Well I got it. But it's a 140 not a 1400 like I thought. They broke the front sight and rigged the rear barrel screw to mount the scope. The scope is broken so I at the minimum need a new scope. It's not the cleanest but for $50 I am happy. Whats you guys opinion on the 140? It also needs resealed. Thanks

It sure looks like an early first model 1400.  If it has dovetails on the barrel it’s a Sears model 126.19300. From what I can tell.  The big difference between the 1400 and the 140 is the 1400 has a one piece barrel and the 140 has a two piece barrel and breech assembly.  The early 1400’s still had the sliding breech cover like the 140.  That is a weird one no doubt and possibly what we used to call a bitsa.  Bitsa this and bitsa that.

It looks good to me.  You can probably get a replacement back sight and a reseal kit from from Mike Baker.  The stock is in pretty nice shape for a fifty year old air rifle and the white barrel spacer looks good in the photos.

The barrel is marked "140" but I agree that it looks like a 1400. No sears marks or numbers. No dove tails on the barrel. It says Crosman "140". I can not find any type of serial number on it at all. none on the breach. The only other marks are a 29 on the rear of the barrel.

If you want to know what this Crosman is, please read my post, JKM6442, on the Vintage Air Gun gate on this forum - same title as this thread
