Title: Chinese knock off mount
Post by: truck driver on December 11, 2019, 03:20:32 PM
Are the Chinese zero recoil mounts as good as the Diana Bullseye ZR mount?

They are in fact not I had one and it was junk. I have a thread over on AGN on it.

I have one that I did the set screw mod to and it works just fine. I installed set screws on all 4 corners of the mount and tightened them down until there was no more play but it would still slide like it's suppose to.

From what I saw on Amazon there is two different brands. Which one did you get?

I tend to be leery of one piece mounts on a Weaver rail.  Slots on a Picatinny rail are spaced at a standard distance - it's a military specification.  The same is not true of a Weaver rail.  I have to adjust my two piece mounts going from one Weaver rail to another.  Of course adding an adapter to a dovetail rail the scope height will go a bit higher yet.

I don't remember but I don'believe there was 2 offered when I bought mine. I do know I had to buy the adaptor because it was a pictiny mount and my M48 have doesn't that rail.

There were two available, one ohhunt, one mizagawa. I only have Mizagawa from AliExpress ($14). It has a lot of play so could not hold zero consistently. I plan to do the grub screw thing

Also AliExpress has a version for 11mm rail, just like the original Diana bullseye ZR

Where did you put the set screws? Can you show a picture?

I am thinking drilling on one end close to the eyepiece, two holes on top and two holes on the side

It's most likely something I'm not doing correctly, but I find searching on Ali frustrating.
Would you have a link to the dovetail model by any chance?

I have the Ohhunt from Amazon.  Too much slop to hold zero.  I had set it to the side to try taking up the slop and had not heard of the set screw mod until now.  I have enough of these and I think they will fit the bill perfectly.

Use softer metal or plastic to protect the rod

Of all the information given this is the closest thing on Ali Express to the genuine RWS Diana ZR Mount:  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33041893332.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.5c97815416AiZU&algo_pvid=40e1b330-c1c6-4ed0-a9d6-ef8ba4f1bf18&algo_expid=40e1b330-c1c6-4ed0-a9d6-ef8ba4f1bf18-5&btsid=7eeabd24-7940-4526-a7d2-a72e591fef3a&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5,searchweb201603_53That (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33041893332.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.5c97815416AiZU&algo_pvid=40e1b330-c1c6-4ed0-a9d6-ef8ba4f1bf18&algo_expid=40e1b330-c1c6-4ed0-a9d6-ef8ba4f1bf18-5&btsid=7eeabd24-7940-4526-a7d2-a72e591fef3a&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5,searchweb201603_53That) one mounts directly on an 11 mm dovetail - no adapter needed.

That's the one I bought and with the mod I did holds zero real well and even after a couple hundred shots through my 48 a cheap no name scope that came with my Aspen still held zero.

This is the one I purchased last year and the fasteners striped out trying to remove it. I had to go knuckle dragger to get my scope out. You could probably shore up the sloppiness but frankly after handling a real Diana Z mount I would not bother with the copy. A good one piece mount and a tough scope IMO is a better option.

The pictures in the add look far better than what you get.

Where did you put the set screws? Can you show a picture?

I am thinking drilling on one end close to the eyepiece, two holes on top and two holes on the side

So it's slop in the mount that loses zero, not a loose fit on the dovetail rail.
Is that correct?
I too would like to see a picture

I disassembled my Mizagawa mount and did some measurements. The sliding rod is 5.88mm in diameter, the hole is 6.31mm to 6.44mm. so there is a play about 0.5mm

The drinking straw fits the hole almost perfectly. But I could not slide the straw over the rod. Can only do it for a short distance. Wish there is a metal straw of same size

How about trying slitting the straw lengthwise?
Or if that's still too tight; maybe removing a little from the slit or slitting the straw in 1/2  lengthwise  & using only 1/2 of the straw would work

Sure. I cut open a little trying to pull in, was able to do half length.  I may have to catch 5he remaining portion open.

Hi Robert, I drilled holes on the 4 corner with 9/64 " bits, which is smaller than 4mm. However, I do not see any 5greads after drilling, and the set nylon crews will not stay.

How did you get the hole with threads? Are you using 4mm screws?

I used 10/32 screws with loctite. I rounded the point real smooth and tightened them until there was no more play but it would still slide smoothly. I used a dry lube to help it.

I used drill to drill a hole but it had no threads. I am getting some tap and die tools to make threads, hopefully that will hole the screws there with some loctite.

Of course you need a tap to thread the holes.
