Hello , I am in the market for a good to great springer pistol . Was looking at the Turkish made Webley Tempest but am apprehensive due to the mixed reviews . Others I looked at were the Cometa Indian , Hatsan Supercharger , Diana lp8 or the earlier model , and so on .., just wondering what others here feel is a good gun . Obviously the Beeman P1 is a dream , but I do not know about such price range . Also it may be hard to come by some of these guns . Any suggestions ? I am looking at a gun that will at least reach 450 fps , would love a .22 but if a great gun will do for a .177 .
-
I really like my Hatsan .177 supercharger. It's a little on the heavy side. I do like the anti recoil absorber and the barrel extension to help with the cocking.
-
Never shot a spring pristol that I liked. I have a Benjamin Nitro pistol in .177, and it's okay accurate, but what a kick for a springer pistol. Hard to be consistent. Not impossible, just hard. Much much happier with my PRod and I have an MRod air CO2 target pistol that is very accurate.

A pneumatic or C02 is a better option.

What about the Beeman P1/HW45? Ain't cheap but a heck of a springer pistol.
-
The P-1 isn't a springer, it's a single pump pneumatic. The P-17 is the same thing and for $40 it can't be beat. you might get 400fps out of it.
As far as springer pistols go I have a Browning Buckmark. Shooting it is as addictive as eating pistachios, nothing to brag about as far as the power and accuracy

Actually, the P1 is a springer pistol and an excellent one at that. The Beeman P3 is single stroke pneumatic and the P17 is a Chinese copy of the P3.

I just received a P17 gratis from a member here, JoeShmoe (thanks again, Joe) and it's really an amazing gun considering the retail cost.
-
IMO if you can shoot a break barrel pistol with any reasonable accuracy, you will be able to nail it with any other pistol you are handed.

Thanks for correction. I've had that one wrong for two years
-
With that mistake corrected i just looked up a P3. Why on earth would anyone spend $230 for a P3? It looks exactly like a P17
-
I picked up a P-17 at a pawn shop a few weeks ago. It is powerful for a cheap air pistol and seems to be accurate too. Not as accurate as a 717, At least more accurate than I can shoot and a lot more power.

HW-45 ... big, heavy, ACCURATE once you figure out how to hold it. 2 stage power too !!

Agreed. The P1/hw45 wins by a mile in the "best springer pistol" category. Expensive, but very well designed and great for all day plinking.

HW-45/ P-1 is one heck of a pistol.

+1 If you can shoot a heavy springer pistol accurately, you can shoot anything!
-
Rws 5G is an excellent pistol, the RWS LP8 replaced it. Both accurate and powerful.
It is going to take some technique and time to shoot any spring pistol well.
I mentioned the 5G for the quality and sometimes can be purchased for $100 or so used. Dave
-
P1/hw45 hands down imho.
-
Anyone tried the Cometa Indian ? Is it worth its Webley Tempest look ? I like the regular recoil principle (I mean a spring expanding forth to back).
-
The Cometa Indian is a nice pistol, easy to cock. Down side is the sights are adjustable for windage only. Repair can be a problem too. Dave
-
HW45 by a long shot . Save your money until you can afford one . Get a P17 until you can. They do come up for sale every once in a while and as long as it hasen’t Been butchered up or left outside to rust should be good . Not too many people buy a 400$ pistol to abuse them .
-
Check out Hatsan supercharger most bang for the buck. IMHO!

I agree. My black star is my favorite air pistol. I prefer it over my P1 even though for the most part it’s just a Beeman rebrand.

I own one. It’s German and not Chinese. Is it worth the extra money? Depends on who you ask...
-
I had a Supercharger- bought used off another member here. It was good for what it was, but I also own a SPA PCP pistol and some Crosman Lego, so the Supercharger was given a new home where it makes holes in pest pigeons.
If you're looking for a springer pistol, the HW-45/P-1 is top dawg unless you come across an FWB 65 MK2- nothing can hang with that in the accuracy department, and I'll take accuracy over power anyday.
-
If you can find one, a Baikal MP53M is a very accurate springer pistol, not pellet picky. Mine isn't anyway.
-
Wow they still make these springers :o

Hard to beat an old FWB 65.............
-
Thanks for all the input guys , much obliged !
-
My old Gamo Falcon, under lever, .177 is very accurate and has good power. It makes at least as much penatrive power as my Benj Trail NP. I have had it since the 80's never been tore down and never gave me any problems. They are hard to find but a good pistola.
-
If the Tempest is like the old Webley Hurricane, it has a wicked recoil.
The Hurricane is a plinker, but with that recoil, it is not easy to shoot accurately.
My best spring pistols are 10m match pistols.
The FWB-65 is a classic. Still looking for one.
-
I like the HW70 air pistol. Had one just for testing and it shot very smoothly, could see the flight of the pellets. I also have a FWB65, and it shoots well too, but mines is due for an overhaul and that looks to be a difficult job.
-
If you can find one, a Baikal MP53M is a very accurate springer pistol, not pellet picky. Mine isn't anyway.
That would be my vote as well, the rest is simply too powerfull to get good accuracy.
Else, getting a good used UK Tempest would be my next option.
Btw... I have been in your boat as well and finally went for a CO2 operated pistol...

FWIW, there's a lot of value in the SPA CP2 pistol/carbine CO2 'kit gun'. Available for $150.00 delivered and hopefully will soon be offered by a vendor that's well known here (JSAR). Nothing wrong w/the CP-1M for $80 for that matter...
-
I believe Bill (Avator) and a few others (Chickie I'm pointing at you) have the CP-1M. I will be getting one from Krale within the next couple months. While I'd LOVE to have a 65 or the 65 MK2, realistically I don't see myself finding one. And given how many good and accurate CO2 airguns are available, they make great choices and are far easier to shoot accurately in most instances. But the SPA PCP pistol is still my preferred pistol. Nothing else I own can hang with it in accuracy and non-pickiness.
I've shot both the Webley (UK) Tempest and Hurricane, but I was an idiot and never bought one. At this point, if I was getting another affordable springer pistol, there's no doubt I'd opt for the Cometa Indian from Aceros in Spain. That will likely be my "Happy Birthday to myself" present from me this year.
-
What does everybody think is the best springer pistol ?
Suggest we stay in the box of what asked ... Springer pistol.
sure enough there are better pistol platforms, but that was not the Q presented ;)
-
If you want to reliably hit what your shooting at and power is not a concern go with one of the old match FWB 65's or Diana 6m's.
Shooting a recoilless springer is quite an experience.
-
I fully agree with scrape, anti-squirrel and lefeyela’s recommendation for the FWB 65. Anything these old guns may lack in power is more than compensated for by their amazing accuracy and build quality. Another plus for these guns is their continued manufacturer support. Feinwerkbau continues to keep vintage parts in stock and they are easily obtained through their website.

I have one for the kid in me that also had one when they were metal, about as accurate as throwing a rock!
-
I have an FWB 65 and it's absolutely awesome if you're looking for consistent accuracy . I have a scope rail on mine with a red dot sight and love it.
They are out there , be patient and you'll fine what you're looking for if you want one and never regret making that choice. imho.
I agree with Motothead, you asked what the best springer pistol is.
-
The FWB 65 series, or the Daina/RWS 6 series are without a doubt the best springer pistols. These are both recoilless, match grade pistols. You shoot them, they make a little noise, and a hole magically appears just where they are pointed.
-
I'm a bit late to this thread. My favorite is the HW 70 but I also like the FWB 65. Just my thoughts.
-
+1 on the rws 6 if you can find one used.
-
Another vote for the Diana 6.
-
I have never seen or held one of these, but it seems like a good deal, if you are interested. I am fairly sure it is a springer. Just happened to see it while browsing eBay.

the RWS lp8 would be my choice... learn to shoot it and break her in and she will amaze you... after that the cometa if the sights issue was fixed... and then a tempest.
-
I was wondering when someone would suggest an LP8. They are very easy to shoot and very accurate ! I had 2 of them . I managed to get the 1st one to do
613 FPS with RWS HP's (6.9gr) but couldn't get it any higher. Sent that gun into Umerex for some repairs and they sent me a new gun instead and I could never get that one much over 500 FPS but it was a tack driver. Finally sold it. Then I got the PCP fever and ----- well, you know how that goes !
-
My advice to you is Webley Tempest (zoraki)if you can find it in your country.Very accurate, reliable and has over 600 FPS after enough pumps (usually 3) and much cheaper than hw.I own both models, the "ultra" has a longer barrel with a removable stock option which you can transform it to a multipump rifle.I use it at my flat whole day with a moderator without any complainment from neighbours.Never heard a regret from guys using zoraki at our airgunturk forums.Go with .177 if you decide
-
I had a Diana 5G , and then the 5G Magnum. Now the LP8 Magnum. Great air pistol , and soon will have a BSA 2X7 scope with Hawke rings. Far less then a Beeman P1 , faster , and accurate.
