I'll have to get one for the next time that I'm attacked by a piece of cardboard, or a soda can. At 11 Joules, it's about the same as a paintball gun.
-
lmbo, yea, I'm not sure the practicality of it.. they should have made birdshot rds and sold it as a rodent gun in the u.s.
-
I sure the heck would never have anything like that for defense . . . no thanks but to me it's worthless, you'd be lucky to stop a chipmunk with that gun!
-
LOL a paintball gun would at lest make the assailant visible to law enforcement if they fled after.
-
Is it smooth bore? Looks like the rifling is on the skirt of those plastic pellets. Seems like a jacket could be an effective bullet proof vest again that thing! Don't use it against an assailant in the winter! It would probably leave a nice welt if the assailant was naked! :P
-
I believe you're suppose to shoot the assailant in the eye, and then while they're temporarily distracted, pistol whip them.
-

very good point , and 50 cal paintball markers are pretty cheap
-
Would be lucky if the bad guy doesn’t take it from you and beat you with it.
-
Another reason why we do not advocate AG's as home defense tools.
-

Good point, maybe that's why it seems to be shooting so high when aiming at center mass!

+1
Really like the fact that it's co2 on top of it all.... ::) If it would push lead, I wouldn't mind birdshot rounds for hosps at close range.
-
Terry, 100 % .. id get this gun in a heartbeat were it marketed in the US.. but id use it for mice and snakes in the yard with buckshot.. I guess I could modify my vigilante pcp project to smoothbore.. hmmmmm
-
Look out !!! I just found out Nerf darts are 50 cal and fit the wing shot :o
Crony test to follow 8)

we have to take in the fact that german bad guy´s and girl´s are only used to 7.5 joule, so if this leaves 11 joule, they will be shocked when they get hit by it!

That gun is hitting high, so aim between the knees

Awesome! ! Something else to blur the lines between powder burners and airguns. . . Sure to be a big hit among felons. Lol

yes, good for robbing the local gas station at night.. good news is it wont be sold here in the US .

Maybe detuned models could be standard issue for all crooks, it might cut down the number of innocent people killed during botched robberies!

It is interesting that it is listed as a 'Defense Training Marker' on the Umarex site:
http://www.umarex.com/products/defense-training-markers/markers/2.4758.html (http://www.umarex.com/products/defense-training-markers/markers/2.4758.html)
As a trainer, this could be useful..
Even if used for defense, I am pretty sure the folks at Umarex know it is a non-lethal deterrent, at best. Something more along the lines of pepper spray or a taser or stun gun, and a whole lot unlike an actual firearm, lol..
Hey, not everybody in the world has access to real guns, and a good many others would rather try something short of lethal force, given the option..

OK...would be fun. I'd like to play with one...may even buy one sooner or later.
But seriously....self defence? Nope...self-defence use is not an attraction. I'd like to play/experiment with one and would have great fun along the way, but "self defence" wouldn't really be on the radar.
Lets put it this way,,,,I like and practice traditional archery....but there isn't a bow and a quiver of arrows at my bedside (although they are undoubtedly deadly).
Am thankful I live in this country, this state, this location...am not a felon...and can own a firearm.
Seriously,,,not a joke here...shooting some one inside your house (this state does have a stand-your-ground home defence policy)....if I had a choice between a well loaded cap-n-ball black powder revolver and the co2 pistol, I'd take the black powder revolver...at least I know it wouldn't suddenly decide to leak the co2 gas out while I wasn't looking.
Actually...if I have to own-up to my full feelings about the "self defence" advertising aspect of this one....it's sadness. Sad that evidently there are places when folks actually have to rely on this as the best-case option.

I don't think they're marketing this for actual defense. I'm assuming it's for training.
That said, I get nervous when people start talking about using airguns for anything but target shooting or hunting. Because of some mistakes I made in my younger years, I'm one of those second-class citizens who can't own a firearm. I'm ok with that. I accept responsibility for my actions, and I'm not a big fan of guns anyway. But I love my airguns.
Someday when some idiot gets foolish with an Evanix .45 cal select-fire, or some other air gun that breaks the paradigm, my days of being allowed to own an airgun will become shortly numbered. The whole "self-defense" discussion pushes everything right into that zone.
I don't have airguns to defend my home. They are for target shooting or hunting. I'll defend my home with a knife and a bat or my bare angry hands. If that doesn't work, well then I guess it's just a good day to die.
I hope people can keep it cool with air guns. Unfortunately, as we see with firearms, there are a lot of idiots out there.
-
Different philosophy of life (and perhaps whose death). I'd much rather "splatter" a bad guy than grieve at my spouse's /child's funeral. But it is your choice to make, I won't degrade you for your choice.
-
I hear you. I just don't think my airguns would do the job anyway, so I don't blend the line.
-
As Mentioned above, it is mostly, for training, as the T4E "Brand" stands for "Training for Engagement"
Also, in Germany, it is sold, at 7.5 Joules, as that is the legal limit, for airguns, not requiring a permit.
For Home Defense, you can actually get Pebber Balls, for them. (Sorry, can't post link, but they are, on the Umarex Web Page)
And remember, that in Germany, they have around 0.07 murders(with firearms)/year/100,000 people (1.01 total Gun Deaths a year) [2012]
Not 3.5 as in the US. (10.5 total Gun Deaths a year)[2014]

If Im shooting at someone for self defense it sure as S$$T wont be with pepper balls.
-
I could do more damage with a rubber band and a paper clip!
For home defense I draw the line at a 9mm powder burner. Sorry Umarex.

Ditto here!! The pepper balls might just get the attacked PO'd, and then they would probably grab the thing from you, hit you with it, and then empty it up your nose.

Simply stated:
Don't bring a knife Umarex toy to a gun fight

I can't understand the video, so I am just guessing off of a visual representation. But it appears to not be intended as a lethal weapon, seems like a replacement for a can of pepper spray. I think it would be a good idea in some instances and for those who would be using pepper spray instead. It seems you wouldn't need to be as close to the person (or bear) to use it on them as you would actually pepper spray. Also they would get a sting or a welt to help deter them as well and you really wouldn't have the chance of accidentally spraying yourself like what can happen with pepper spray. So yes could be a useful tool to carry out hiking if you prefer not to have a gun.
As for the co2 concern many are having with the gun, from what I can see that has been addressed. It appears you can put the co2 cart in but until you smack the cap on the bottom of the gun it is not pierced. Therefor you wouldn't have any co2 leaking from storing it for long periods.
This gun would probably perpetuate the myth that air guns are just a toy in my opinion because first a person would hear .50 cal and would think wow that must be powerful, and then they would see it bouncing off of everything it is shot at shy of a piece of paper. Be interesting to see how things turn out if anything.

well one thing is for sure, having made a 9mm co2 gun , it will be LOUD>. so part of the tactic I'm guessing is to scare off the offender before it comes down to combat.. Not sure though
-
Makoda,
I enabled the english subtitles for the video and I still don't understand the purpose and reasoning of the gun. I don't see how it could defend your life. I can see how it would either wet annoy someone off more or make them laugh. But make them change their mind about hurting you? I don't see it.

I guess the problem I have is that they didn't shoot anything that resembles a person. Ballistic gel or pot-roast or something...? Maybe this thing somehow is better than it looks. I'm always amazed at what my pellet guns can do.
If it's a training tool, I guess it's ok... but Airsoft and paintball has been a thing for a long time. This doesn't really accomplish anything new in that realm.
-
Training? Well, I guess it would give at least a limited sense of recoil. But there just aren't many large organizations issuing revolvers (which that most closely copies)

yea, you would get some recoil I'm sure with it , but you also get that with the blowback action pistols.. this thing makes almost no sense for training ,since those don't appear to be training rds... I guess we have to see what ammo options they actually bring to market
-
turns out , they already make and sell guns like this in The US that also load pepper ball rds
