Just ordered a used FWB 602 10-meter rifle!!! I think I got lucky with it, as the cost is about US$575. It's coming from a reputable dealer and includes a one-year warranty. I asked if I should pick up a set of replacement seals for it, just in case, and was assured that it was unnecessary. The rifle has been fully inspected and tested and that's why they're giving the warranty.
That means I'll *probably* be selling my CZ200T in the near future.

I just spent the last 20 minutes looking at pictures of 602's. Can't wait to see yours when it comes in.......................the Mailman

Did you buy the one Jim had for sale?
If so you got it for a far price and he is a great guy to deal with.

Nope, don't even know who Jim is. I am getting mine from Gerrit Krale in the Netherlands. Second gun I'm buying from him.

You will be tickled with it.
Once you get it set up to suit you, and zeroed, you are in for a barrel of fun.
Are you going to shoot it with the Diopter sights, or scope it for mini sniping?

Well, I'm sure looking forward to that barrel of fun! :)
I'm only going to use the 602 for 10-meter paper target shooting with diopter sights. I've got other rifles with scopes for when/if I want do to other stuff. I have no idea what velocity this is going to shoot at (high velocity isn't needed for paper targets anyway) and I have much higher power guns for other things.
-
Сongratulations, good for you!
Now you will be fully equipped with serious Match grade pistol and rifle ;)

putting a scope on that rifle is blasphemy lol.

if he got it from Jim woulda been 700-750

Thanks Vitaly! You're going to have to come over and test them out, and hopefully pronounce them to be "match quality". :)
(Inside joke folks... Vitaly is the most incredible shooter I know, and he tested my CZ 200T and even after trying a bunch of different pellets he had to say it was NOT match quality. And that was a real bummer! The gun was a lot better than I was, but I really wanted a gun good enough that I would know without any doubt that any failings were my own, and not the gun.)

Still don't know who Jim is... Can someone please give more info?

The "Jim" is probably Jim Edmondson. He's known for selling quality used 10m rifles. If anyone has contact info for Jim, I could use it. I've tried his old email troutmd@earthlink.net but wouldn't work.
Thanks all,
Higgs

That should be current.
As a general rule, when anyone uses the name 'Jim' or 'Jim E.' in reference to 10M match rifles, they are referring to Jim Edmondson.
Jim deals in hard to find, obsolete, rare, and just plain cool 10M match rifles that he locates overseas mainly.

I am in complete agreement, but there's no accounting for what some people will get up to in their spare time.............

You will love that German piece! Built and sound like a Swiss watch.
Mine (603) is set up with a 6-24x scope for mini sniping and it's a blast to take off grasshopper heads at 10-20 yards at 24x!

My new German girlfriend arrived today!!!!!!!!
Feinwerkbau 602!

Now I've got to wait until 6pm (SIGH) for the staff to go home before I get to shoot it and zero in the sights. The rifle came to me with the sights and stock removed. I'm feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas morning!

I haven't been able to find out when the 602 was made (what years) but I wish I'd be able to hear the stories this rifle could tell... Was it used by an Olympic competitor? Was it a winner? Where has it travelled? How many owners has it had? Serial number is 202xxx.
-
Congrats Eldor, she looks to be in perfect form!
Tell us more - how much fps it develops and if you can check it's actual weight it would be interesting too.
And of course accuracy!

Like a woman, sometimes you do not want to know the history... ::)
If you want to have a gun used in the Olympics or World Championships, make it so! :-*

Beautiful! I'm normally not the coveting type, but if I hadn't put a new competition Hurst linkage in my Mustang ragtop today, well, I'd almost be jealous!! Why don't you take a little cruise this summer thru the Finger Lakes and bring her along. You can use my backyard range for some practice...........................The Mailman

These are very attractive guns, and you got a very good price based on what I've seen in the last year in classified ads. A very good find...even if it is right handed...

Thanks Vitaly! One day soon you'll have to try it.
Running it through the chrony isn't a high priority for me, but based on how deep the pellets embed in my pellet trap putty, I'd guess it's about 550 to 600 fps. But for paper, who really cares? I don't have a scale at the office (where I have the rifle and my shooting "range") so cannot weigh it, but it IS heavy. Without comparing them side by side, I'd say almost as heavy as my HW97KT.
But accuracy? With the rifle on a bag rest, at 10 meters, I was making ONE HOLE GROUPS!!!! Making it so far, the most accurate rifle I own.
I'm REALLY pleased!

Yes, I do know and I did in fact do that earlier in the day after I attached the stock and sights (the rifle came to me in pieces for easier packing). But I really didn't want staff to see me doing that so I only did it a couple of times and then put it away. But tonight after work I put close to 200 pellets through it, and it's fantastic!!!!!
At least now, I know without any doubt, that any failings are MY FAULT and not the rifle's.

Good point! You want a woman with experience, but don't want to know how she got it. :)
But I'm going to love her anyway.

No perfect score pictures yet?! ;) ;) ;) Come on!

Jeff there's actually a good chance that I'll be down in the Finger Lakes area sometime this summer, but it WON'T be by car so there's no way I'd be bringing the FWB along. Just not possible to take it along on the motorcycle with all the other gear. But if I can figure out the legalities of doing so, I might bring my new Steyr EVO 10 along on the bike. Would be pretty cool to get a nice campsite and then practice 10-meter target shooting before turning in for the night. :)
But I would love to show you the rifle. It's absolutely beautiful!

Well, being right-handed, I'm pretty happy with it. And yes, I was really lucky to find it... super condition and super price. And after about 200+ shots tonight I can tell you I'm getting one-hole groups (with the gun bag rested).
The rest is up to me.

With such a classic match rifle, with laminate stock, is there a consensus about how to finish the stock? On the photo below, you can just barely see that the shiny finish (shellac or varnish) is peeling off on the cheek piece. Are these classic guns usually finished glossy? What should I do? Sand it down and then what? Finish it with boiled linseed oil, or refinish with some kind of varnish or shellac (what kind?)?
I'm pretty comfortable refinishing wood, but just don't want to do something to this stock that Feinwerkbau purists would not be happy with.
Advice/comments most welcome!
-
These guns are pretty common, so I don't think you have to worry about what anyone thinks but you.
If it were mine I'd sand that flat area down and finish that location with a flat or semi gloss Varathane to match the rest of the gun.
Have fun.

What sights are on there?
They look pretty 5 ringish........ :-* :-* :-*

Rio anyone?

Well, I'm HOPING they're good enough to get me into the 5 ring! :)
Seriously, I don't know what the sights are, but assume they are FWB original. There's "Feinwerkbau" stamped on one side but no model number that I can see. The adjustable iris is pretty nice and also has several color filters that can be dialed in. Cool.

Remove the old finish from your cheekpiece using your preferred method, then refinish with something along the lines of spar urethane, polyurethane or the likes.
The finish on those rifles isn't really a gloss finish, more like a semi gloss. Not really a satin or flat either.
Knowing those crazy Germans, the original finish is probably a lacquer.
-
Enjoy that rifle!! I've been lusting after a FWB 60x for a long, long time. One of these days when I get more projects done I'll pick one up!!
-
You got a great deal!
I bought a C60 ( the co2 version) a little while ago and yours has much better sights. The adjustable iris is a major upgrade over mine; as I recall, yours are at least one version newer. It looks like yours has more range of adjustment in the buttplate as well.
The truly horrible thing about shooting mine is that it's boring. "Another 0.100 CTC group? sigh"

Shooting perfect scores is boring??? Gee, I guess I haven't (yet) done that often enough to find it boring. :)
With the gun rested on a bag, I shot my first ever perfect score with it yesterday. (I posted about it also.) 10-meters, using the standard 10-meter air rifle targets that you can download here. Using all 12 targets (that includes the two sighters) I shot an absolutely perfect 120/120. I was stoked!!!!! And I followed it up by shooting 119/120. No question at all about this being a match quality rifle!
Now I just have to work on my free-hand standing technique so I can improve there. That's what I really got the gun for.
The adjustable iris is very nice and I don't know if you noticed or not from the photos, there are even several color filters that can be dialed into place... red, yellow, green, and a few others. I haven't played with that yet though so don't know how useful I'll find it.
-

Yes, but it's better than the alternative. I find it very relaxing to repeatedly pass pellet after pellet trough the same tiny hole shooting off the coffee table in the living room to the target box in the den. I have a springer (300s) and a SSP (LGR) and they both perform that same function in different ways. Over and over again with no fuss or drama.

I should have put a smiley in there.
It's boring, but incredibly satisfying. My Crosman 2300 custom shop can do it; maybe I got lucky with that one? Having gotten a lot older since getting the stacked pellet addiction, shooting offhand means hitting paper at all is a challenge, but having Olympic grade guns pretty much guarantees that operator error is the only cause.
-
We are really fortunate with the fine variety of vintage target guns available to us at very reasonable prices. I am thankful for the likes of Jim E and Carel who offer us airguns we have only dreamed about in the past.
-
I cannot outshoot my FWB 300s and I have two of them with my FWB 602 even at 30 yds which shows the genius behind the 300s that a spring gun can match an SSP
