Looking for options on the refurbished air guns that are available from supply houses. Are they worth it. Wolfer

I got my 95 from airgunproshop.com and they sell refurbs almost exclusively. After about 800 shots the seal broke and I had to send it in for warranty repair. It didn't cost me anything but time. I've only had a chance to get about 100 shots through it since and so far so good.
-
My only experience with a refurb was a IZH46m that I recently bought, looked like brand new. All accessories were included but the plastic bags had been opened. Was told entire gun was gone over too ???. Also saved $170 ;D. I'm happy.
-
I've bought a bunch of refurbs. Only sent one back. An Air Hawk Elite and Pa sent me another, it's a tac driver.
-
Have bought only 2 refurbs (RWS 34 and Cr 1701P) both were in great shape and have functioned normally.
-
I purchases a refrub 1377 from Airgun Depot a week or so ago. No problems with it other than it was missing part of the rear sight, which did not brother me because I was planning to add a steel breach and different sight anyway. Mechanically the gun is fine and it shoots great (accurate). It look brand new except for missing the blade on the rear sight.

I bought a couple Ruger 'hawks that weren't perfect, but were worth the dollars so long as I didn't expect Diana-level accuracy. I also bought an Umarex NGX AXP that had incomplete rifling and was a waste of money, but others had better luck with them.
-
I have 2 refurbs from Field Supply, one is the Umarex Fusion the other is Smith & Wesson M&P 45 pistol. Both are co2. They look brand new in the box. These are my first refubs I have purchased. Both are working fine, no jams or leaks.
-
My first airgun was a refurb crosman 66 and it lasted me 10 yrs without a single drop of oil and I always over pumped it ( the seals went so I stupidly just junked it )
I have a refurb 880 that started leaking after maybe a year and a half.
And we have a refurb ruger hawk ( b26 I think they are )
That my dad got a couple yrs ago and still hasn't broken in.
Overall I think refurbed guns are a good deal ( plus they've been inspected twice as much )
-
I've got a Diana 48 and 350--both refurbs from Aigun Depot. My two favorite rifles. Both looked NIB. If you purchase refurb from reputable dealers with good return policies I think they are unbeatable deals. Did you have a particular rifle/deal in mind?

I had a beautiful refurb Diana 52 that was in excellent condition, great trigger and laser accurate. The only thing wrong with her was her weight. She was one heavy momma, too heavy for my comfort. She is now in the hands of a younger and stronger man.
-
When I bought me refurb disco the only way you could tell was the sticker on the stock,
not a mark on it and deadly accurate.
-
I bought a refurb AA S510 from PA this year. Just as good as new; no marks, no blems and about 15 percent off retail. No problems here, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another refurb. PS bwith PA same warranty as new. Works for me.
-
I've bought several refurbs and they've all been great. I think in some cases -- Crosman in particular -- they're a safer bet than a new gun because someone has had their hands on it and tested it.
-
I've bought a number of refurbs.Mostly Diana's from Airgun Depot. No problems with any them. One Diana 34 was several years old and had the grooved wooden butt.I've also bought refurb Hatsans again with no problems.I consider them to be a good deal.
-
I think Refurbs are better than buying used from a private seller, and they usually cost less than if you bought used.
I got a refurb Umarex CO2 pistol at less than half price (from what PA charges for a new one anyway) a few days ago, and the condition was like NIB and functions like new. I could not tell if it was handled by anyone.
I would only buy a refurb if it is stated that it was refurbished by the Manufacturer or authorized distributor, not by the retailer.

I think I am going to pull the trigger on a River air mag.To good of a deal to pass up. Wolfer
-
Ruger air mag is what I was trying to say. My finger is to big for this new tab my wife says I have to use Sorry and Bare with me. Wolfer
-
That's okay, when I read your post I automatically saw the word ruger anyway. ;D
-
One thing I've read about referbs in general (not airgun specific) is that they are:
1. Likely to be a return that did not have a problem.
2. Had the once over at the factory, thus reducing the likelihood of a problem.
-
Bought 1 refurb from AGD a couple years ago. Stock was a little beat up, but it shot OK.
-
I've bought several refurbs.
A Crosman 1377 that looked like new and was very accurate.
A Colt Defender BB pistol, looked new and is pretty accurate, for a BB gun.
An RWS 850 Airmagnum in .22 that is a one hole tack driver. It had the bolt handle poking through the box and scuffed up when it arrived, otherwise looked brand new.
My only bad refurb, a Crosman C11 that shoots high and left, I was lucky to keep 10 shots on an 8 inch target. It does make a great paperweight though, keeps loose targets from blowing away. I paid $18, and only added it to get free shipping on a larger order.

update as of 3/23/16 Finally got the the shipped back to them today.
I Got this from field supply and its still sitting in my office. I want the shipping info to return the damaged air gun. Trying to get someone to respond to me is getting aggravating. All responses when they do respond has been very friendly , and they assure me they will replace it but nothing is getting done. Its been in my office for 9 days.

I bought a refurb 1377 (PC77) a few years ago from AGD I believe. Better than the one I bought new and still is. Speedier.

What I have Airgun pro shop looks like a first rate air gun sorce for the refurbished Hatson. Soon I will find out. Wolfer

I bought 2 CO2 BB refurb pistols from Midway and both were fine. I bought a refurb Diana 54 from AirGunDepot that kicked like a mule. The 54 is not supposed to do that. In talking to the rep from AGD I found out that they get their Diana refurbs from Umarex. I asked if AGD tested the air rifles that they sold and was told that they do not. AGD would not repair my rifle, I could send it back for a refund or keep it. I did research on the 54 and I found out what was wrong. The action was assembled into the stock without some washers. This caused the action to lock into the stock instead of sliding to negate the recoil. I called Umarex and was told that they do the refurbs there. I explained my problem and I was able to get them to send me the missing washers that I needed. My 54 shoots nicely now.

Umarex is one, but there are others. Sometimes a refunded or otherwise returned rifle gets looked at, sometimes they don't even get fired or checked to see if everything is there. They just figure 99% of them are minor issues, buyers remorse, or they didn't know how to shoot it. They also know many folks who get a bad one will just keep it, or not be able to evaluate it before the return period expires.
Kinda like your situation...
Glad you were able to make due ;D

Well after almost a month wasting time I get a email saying they refunded me. I emailed asking about the exchange they kept saying would be sent out and the response was "we dont have anymore" . Im not happy about it but kinda expected it.
At least I got my money back.

I bought my Air Arms S510 .177 as a refurb from Pyramyd and it looked like NIB also never any trouble and she is a tack driver

I got one last year, model 95 Hatsan. Looked like it had never been fired. Hits hard and groups well after a couple tins. Was a real good deal.

Refurbs can be a heck of a deal. I've bought several of them and never got a lemon. In fact, they all looked just like new.
When you buy a refurb from a dealor with a good reputation, it can be even better, as your worries about the necessity that you might have to return it for some reason usually go away. PA refurbs might not be refurbs at all. Many guns that PA sells are guns that have been returned by the buyer during their 30 day no questions asked policy. Could be the first buyer couldn't handle the weight of the gun, or didn't have the strength to repeatedly cock it? Might even be buyer's remorse? Generally, PA discounts such guns by 15% from new price. You even get the 30 day return if you want to send it back, too! Want to be extra careful? Buy the PA "10 for $10" test, and you will at least know that it functioned well for 10 shots! If I have my choice, I'll take the chance and buy a refurb from PA before buying a new gun. Other dealers might similarly be reputable, but I know of no others who have the PA product guarantee.

I bought a refurb from midway about 6 months ago and to say it was junk would be a under statement. I got a chance to take it down yesterday and found metal pieces falling out of it and found the spring broke. I'm sure that explains why I could not hit a broad side of a barn with it. It must have shipped that way because it never was right from day one. Will never buy a refurb again.
-
I purchased a refurbished Umarex Browning Buckmark pellet pistol from Airgun Deopt and was pleased with the gun. I'd always wanted one of these because I have a .22 lr Buckmark, and this is an exact replica. Since the refurb was nearly half the price of a new one, I couldn't resist.

What air gun did you buy?

Ruger air hawk
Jus gut one ... used not refirb Baker Airguns. Wish they checked it, bent barrel broke fiber on rear sight, pics taken down lickety split (thankfully after an hour of searching cache found the pics, missing "extras" but they shipped them). Price was right and its got the sweetest shot cycle of my hoard including the Daisy 880 ;) not to mention a VERY nice trigger.
She's probably worth saving, faults and all I expect mine to be one of my favorites when it's turn comes up to get straightened out. Sorry for the pun...
Wish I had the denero to offer to take it off your hands but wife would kill me LOL, gotta say Ruger DOES answer their CS lines, maybe if you ask them they'll send you a spring and seal? "chicken soup"... :P ::) :P
-
Steve, if you want to keep the open sights PM me an address and I'll send you a rear sight for the Hawk.
-
I ordered a new spring and seal with shipping it was around $20. So in the end the refurb was not the greatest deal now that I have to stick more money in to it. I was very disappointed because I have a MM tuned Xisco 25 in .22 that is a awesome gun. I know they are the same gun so I wanted to have a .177 also. Hopefully once I get it back together it will be a tack driver like my Xisco is.

I for one, would love to know how it turns out ... I keep reading this particular clone can be as good or better than the "legitimate" model. Surely the end price will be lower than that!

I have purchased a couple of refurbs. One from PA and the rest from AGD. All except for one looked new and I wouldn't have been able to tell they were refurbs. I had sent a Ruger Air Magnum from AGD back for a refund. The bore was way off center.
