Looking for Simplicity

After reading more about AO and high zoom, I realize maybe it would be better (in my airgun use) to get a basic, but quality scope. I wanted some input on a new setup.
What do you all think about having a scope with; under 10 zoom, pre-set parallax, on top of see-through mounts for iron sights at closer ranges, than the scopes ability?
I read many saying AO is not necessary for pesting , and can actually slow you down.
I have a Hatsan 95 Vortex. Realistically, I won't be accurately shooting past 50 yards. What I want is a high quality glass, 2-7 or 3-9 variable, with a thin (or etched) mil-dot reticle. I would also like a simple illumination. What zoom/parallax compatibility do I need for ~20-50 yards? What do you all think?

Hawke makes an illuminated reticle 2-7x32 in their Vantage line, but the reticle is what they call a 30/30, you can check it out here:

I have the 3-9x40 on my Umarex Fuel and it works great. I have the AO set between 25 and 30 yards and I've had it out to 45 without blurring and even if you need to adjust, it turns very easily. The magnification I usually have between 5 and 7 and is also easily adjustable.  It gives you a choice or red or green for the IR, personally I like the green, but it's a simple 2 color setup. It was a little bit pricey at $149.99, but after using it, I consider it money very well spent and liked it so much, I got a little crazy and bought the bigger Vantage 4-12x50 AO IR for my Hatsan Model 95 Vortex .25 caliber.
You can also check out UTG. They have a pretty good line of scopes in different sizes but their IR setup has something like 36 different colors if you want something other than red or green. They're also a little cheaper than the Hawke's but still a good scope from the reviews I've read and both companies have really good warranties if you ever have problems.

Anyone know if non-airgun rated scopes hold up on a gas ram?

Can be a &^^& shoot,, even some of the "air gun rated" scopes will not hold up on some springers.
 
This may be irrelevant,? but I've noticed when studying scope specs, some air gun models weigh more which leads me to believe the internals are made with stronger components which should make them better.....but not always.

  See through mounts have two problems. The scope will be t0o high for a good check weld. Also you'll need see through mounts with a stop pin. The stop pin needs to fit tight inside the stop pin hole and also you need to bottom out the stop pin inside the stop pin hole without canting the see through mount to the right or left.

 Recommend using a one piece scope mount with a stop pin. It's a good chance your scope will move and the see through mounts will also move on your Hatsan 95.

I went simple on an R7.  It has a Leupold mx-4x rimfire special with factory 60 yd focus and fine duplex.  I sent it into Leupold to readjust the focus to 20 yds (splitting the difference between 10 and 30).  After much testing, I have determined that it causes less error to have the focus set too close than too far.  I am going to have it reset to 15 yds.  This will be a very good focus at 10 yds, perfect at 15, very good at 20, and completely acceptable at 25-35.    It makes it an ideal plinking and pest gun.  I shoot this gun more than the HW30S with Leupold 3x9EFR.  I really like the Leupold 4x with fixed, close focus.  Super fast, simple, and compact, and the scope is so clear with the fine duplex that it will pretty much wring out the rifle under most conditions.
