I think the GTA is more of a well-mannered forum than others because of two reasons. The first and probably lesser reason is the one already mentioned, our collective ages. We ARE older and hopefully much wiser. For the most part, we've learned to value opinions that differ from ours and enjoy the camaraderie that such diversity promotes. Secondly and more importantly, it is ingrained within the DNA of the GTA forum that we will respect and act respectfully toward one another. Having raised two full-blooded boys, I learned a long time ago of the importance of stating the rules both clearly and forcefully right up front so everyone knows how things are going to go. When someone joins the GTA, they are almost immediately reminded that this is family and we are to act as such. Personally, I like that aspect of our forum the most and it is the primary reason I am here and not elsewhere.

I do have to mention one pet peeve, though. Using nonsense letters (sX*t, ^.!t, and others) to denote curse words is still 'cussing.' Our minds are wonderful things and just naturally fill those nonsense letters into words within our thought processes. There's no need to emphasize our inability to curse by using only barely acceptable alternatives to skirt the rule. Just my humble opinion.

First let me address the civility of the GTA . It, in my opinion, is not accidental. The persons the started this forum and the moderators are the ones to be credited for the civility found here at the GTA. I am sure that many of us have stumbled across various forums on the Net where the core group feasted on viscious and malicious comments / replies. They are, for me, a turn off.

And as far as age goes.......I'm about.....well let's just say, I'm older than dirt.
