You are right, Harry; and not the first time it happened. It was just the first time the bolt opened when I was trying for a squirrel.

I am thinking that I will try the rubber band thing and see if I can get used to it like that. But it will have to wait until tomorrow - lightening, rain, and tornado warnings here today.

Thursday - February 18, 2016
This morning was near perfect. The squirrels were lazy and didn't start moving until about 8:30 a.m. The first two didn't offer any shots. The next one received the JSB through the head, dropped, and DRT. As soon as I shot, another appeared to my right as started barking. It got the JSB treatment in the neck and out the ribs. It dropped DRT too. I saw two more moving away. After I saw those two, the winds started coming up, so I headed back to the bicycle.
Note to self: Wait a couple of day after a stomach virus before hunting.

Sometimes the illness bugs drain you but you pushed through and were rewarded with some fine harvest.

Great shooting and pics. I've done night pest control hunts where I felt like taking a dirt nap myself...until a big ole Bandit appeared hehe. Ed

Thanks Tom. It was a comfortable and fun morning hunt. There was a male and a female - both looked like this year's crop. Good eating there.

Hey Mike,
I too dealt with the bolt issue on my Disco. With the bolt fully closed, the shot itself would pop it open. The tissue test revealed that it was indeed blowing air past the o-ring. I tried punching a small divot in the receiver behind the bolt, which added enough friction to keep it closed. Unfortunately, the harder steel bolt eventually smoothes the divot back into place after a number of shots and it stops being effective.
I slapped on a rubber band. It looks cheezy, but really does work well and doesn't cause me any bother. Holds the bolt down snugly throughout the shot and keeps my velocity consistent.

Down side: It also eliminates a really good excuse when I miss...

"Too consistent" <--- isn't that like too much money

Note to self: Write up a list of excuses to carry along to the woods. And be sure to include the "clouds were in my eyes."

LOL!! I shot my grandpa's .17 HMR at a squirrel and the trigger was so light I missed. (I am not kidding. )
