1977 Benjamin 342

Hi. I am new and found your sight while looking up info on my Benjamin 342 I bought at a yard sale. It is a 1977 model that I only paid $10.00 for it. It pumps and fires just fine and seems to hold it's pressure when not being used. But the person that had it before me really messed up the rear sight. Sense it is already modified I am considering the pep sight that I have seen on the newer models. Any tips would be great. Thanks

Most definitely get a peep sight. Mine didnt have the holes in the receiver for one, but it was fairly easy to drill and tap them myself. You just have to remove the bolt to be able to drill through, and use the sight to mark where to drill the holes. The peep sight is a great way to improve the accuracy!

Limbshaker already gave the best advice... I won't add to it. But, if it were mine and I only had $10 in it, I think I would send it off to Timmy at MAC1 for the full monty.

Hi and welcome.

The front sight on your rifle is going to be low for a Williams peep sight and will not work well or at all unless you raise it. The parts for a stock sight are available but you may want to consider a Bar-V or 273 peep. All of them are available at Baker Airguns.

Its the one sold to fit the new production 392. It fits and works great. Easy job to drill and tap the holes yourself too.

A really nice find. Especially for only $10.00. The 342 is a really fun gun to shoot & being so compact & light makes it a great squirrel gun. Get yourself some Secret Sauce to keep her lubed. It can be used for the pump arm pivot points, compression piston & keeps the internals working well. Also, remember to store your 342 with 2-3 pumps in her. Enjoy!

How did you mount the globe front sight??

I cut off the stock front blade and filed it down flush. Then I used a caliper (the old timey kind) to transfer the width of the sight grooves from the barrel of an HW50S to the front sight base on the 342. A small triangle shaped file was used to cut the groves into the 342 and then the Weihrauch globe slid right on and tightened down with the clamping screw. It was pretty easy, the brass sight on the 342 is fairly soft and cuts easy. It's a whole nother ballgame with the globe sight on it. Much much better sight picture and a lot easier to shoot accurate.
