Good Luck! trying to improve on itAs I read the published shot strings, it fails to deliver 'high fps' at anything over about 230 gr. Its 500 FPE is achieved with a slow moving 400 gr boolit. Also, the AF tanks are all 3k/200 bar tanks...not a good idea to over fill at all. It was also mentioned that a small increase in pressure causes valve lock, so more hammer energy is required...longer travel or stiffer spring. So can these be done without overloading something like the sear? If they could, I am certain that AF would have in order to claim even more FPE...LOLcheers,Douglas

If you hold the velocity, caliber, and bullet nose shape a constant, the penetration is proportional to the bullet weight.... A heavier bullet will allow you to use a bigger Meplat to create a larger wound and still get the same or greater penetration.... and the BC of the heavier bullet can be greater, even with the blunter nose.... I'm not arguing that a 230 gr. isn't more than sufficient for deer.... but for anything larger, or dangerous, I'd prefer more weight at the same velocity (ie more FPE).... The 45-70 is a fine cartridge, but we're not even close to that without using Helium, even in our most powerful airguns....Bob
Only guns running much higher air pressures, or helium, or both can out perform the Texan for power, but they still lose out on versatility and economy.

BOB, Just called airforce as they don't show tank and valve for the TEXAN as the other models are listed.........Lady says she THOUGHT they were listed but anyway they SELL REPLACEMENTS.....I ordered the tank and TEXAN VALVE and will see what can be done with it ...........IF MORE AIR FLOW can be passed with another valve IF THE ROOM IS AVAILABLE as TOM said in the bottle neck??If it looks as can make MORE POWER the bullets will be still GOOD AT EXTENDED RANGE, or beyond 100 yd kill zone.. If all is possible i will get the GUN as have 2 carbon Fiber bottles for gun already.............Having stiffer/stronger springs custom made are easy, although cost $20 apiece..OBVIOUSLY metnav1 is very happy with his and that's fine........I ALWAYS like to push things and make it BETTER.......If we hadn't PUSHED we would still have flint locks........HEck, I can get 225 fpe from my .257 and stopped at 4000 psi as accuracy was going away....... In the 50's scientists said one could NEVER exceed 200 mph in quarter mile..........They have shortened dragstrip for fuel racing and hit 332 mph in a 1000 ft now........also they have hit 299 mph at 660 ft or the OLD HALF TRACK distance.............Progress NEVER STOPS....................Cheers.... CARL

CARL Amen to that Carl! I'm always looking for the extreme end of anything I do, from 1600hp street cars and 500+hp street bikes I like to go BIG!! I'm dying to dig into my Texan to increase its performance, I'll be watching closely to see if you make any headway.. I'd even give up my Texan to what ever guru to see if there's anything left in it.
