It was impressive to shoot one empty shot with 60 bars. I think it would of been even more impressive with bullet. 60 bars. I think it takes some daring to test with 300 bars.

Whoever will do it first time.

Hydro next week and we'll see how it goes. Considering the mass it has it does kick with so low pressure.
First live shot is going to be interesting to say at least.
I think we are going to cast some rounds with Teemu and I'm going to turn some to get them a bit lighter.

Ok a little update. Did hydro test yesterday and things went sideways.
First cycle 460bar ok
Second cycle 445bar and bang, valve blew out of the transfer port.
Well nothing dramatic but the blast shield I rigged up directed the spray in to my abb inverter that is going to go to my lathe. Well it got soaked.

So back to the valve, the design was changed sometime durring development and an o ring groove was cut.
Quick calculation and the burst pressure was down to ~4400psi whoops.
So a material is going to be changed over to peek and shallower groove.

Did you use PET-P/Ertalyte for the valve?

Pom, should have been ok with 5mm wall but forgot to check when o-ring groove was added.

I don't think so. POM would of been too soft anyway, soft and brittle. Funny how it is possible to be too soft and brittle at the same time with plastics. It is like Newtonian fluids, kind of.

Perhaps with very large diameter valves at high pressure, a steel poppet and PEEK seat would be structurally more secure?.... Thanks for the heads-up. one more thing for Big Bore builders to remember....

Uit was within specs needed but looking at the notch test well it would have probably broken in use.
I need to think of doing alu valve with peek sealing surface or complete peek valve.
Just need to order some 20mm peek rod, for I'm out.

First test with a projectile in the breech. Well O-rings leak on the bolt. And sabot was on the small caliber size. But anyhow around 120bar in the tank and 40 gram sabotet projectile around 207m/s about 630fpe.

Thanks Al, now just need to make a smaller mold. I'm not going to start testing with 117gram bullets at first. It's something like 1600grain?
Maybe something small like 50-70 gram at first, and more sabots. Can't wait to open her up 300bar on air and when everything works switch to helium to make some serious power.

Just shows when done right helium is not needed. So 630 fpe on less then 1800 psi.

Thanks Doug and Rob.
Now just needs the weather to cooperate and do more testing. It's raining subfreeze mist that freezes on contact. Not my kind of weather to test anything.
I'll start working on the mold next week and there are some sabots on the way so it'll be interesting when weather clears.

Thought this was the rifle I saw on Mr Hollowpoint's video of the 20mm Rifle recently. That round looked more like an M203 round from back in the day..lol.
I think he may have shot that rifle with Helium but I'm not sure. I know the tanks were stacked
