Seldom read much about the nifty H9A. Trigger work, other simple mods maybe?

Fun part about airguns to me is that there's often some modifications that can be done to nice them up so to say. I love mine really. Not really a powerhouse and that's fine by me because I have other, more powerful airguns if needed. But for plinking and all around fun, I would enjoy a better trigger on mine. It's heavy, has a lot of "creep" and is narrow which doesn't please my arthritic finger.
  A search here only gives maybe three threads about the HB22. it seems to me to be a mostly brass and steel diamond in the rough. Yes, the sights leave something to me to be desired but I still love it.
 How about that trigger issue? Any owners here improved on the HB22? Maybe mine is just different from others specimens, but what might be done to help mine out?

I don't have a hb but i do have an e series. I'm pretty sure the triggers are the same. Not much can be done in my opinion but the usual clean and polish. I did add a trigger shoe to mine and that made it atleast feel better on my finger. The crosman or b&a shoe fits fine. They are great little shooters though.

You may not have found mine cause I listed it as a H9A. Thats what mine says on the side, calls it as I sees it.

Mine had a really light trigger when I acquired it. I think it was done by just use. I wouldn't call it a creep more of a slide. The travel isn't far was easy to get use to. I had compressed the spring a little to lighten the resistance. After some polishing and lube made the slide more predictable. Almost comes to a stop after the slide. That's where the breaking point is.
   To improve the sighting with irons I painted the front post yellow. I tried the laser as u can see and red dot. The laser wasn't bad point and shoot easy. The problem with that was the pests can see the laser. The red dot just added too much weight to be shot as a pistol. I've had no luck getting a Sheridan stock.
   Now as you can see I'm averaging 470. Some people say they only get 400-405 and others say they get 460-470. I don't know what makes the difference? Whether it's a Benjamin hb22 or a Crosman H9A. I wanted to start a thread but never did. Can you chrony yours?
   It wasn't dumping all the air in mine when I first got it. I added a small piece of brass behind the hammer spring. That solved that problem.

First I need to apologize to all for a model number mistake I made in the thread title. My little handgun is not an HB22 but rather an H9A. It's been in our safe virtually untouched for a long time. I made the correction in the title for clarity
 Next I wish to thank each of you for the responses here. I don't have nor can I expect in the near future to have a chronograph to test my pistol. I don't use it for hunting, instead choosing one of my air rifles for dispatching any renegade garden varmints I happen upon. It's a fun weapon I used to use to help introduce new shooters to the hobby. Honestly though it didn't get use a lot because of the heavy rough trigger.
 I believe I will just have to see if I can do some trigger work on my H9A. A trigger shoe would be great also and I will look into one.
 In the meantime, I will watch some videos and see what additional tips I can absorb.

Sorry for posting this a bit late, but didn't realize you were talking about the H9A.

We have one in 177 that we rescued from a pawn shop for $40. Trigger was very heavy, so I took the gun apart. I lifted one leg of the trigger spring off its notch in the frame (one on the left in the pic) and left the other one in the notch, much like the Poor Boy Trigger job on Ruger SA revolvers. This helped lighten up the pull quite a bit and the gun still functions just fine. Still a lot of trigger travel, but will tackle that issue at another time.


Found an old Bushnell 1.5x pistol scope and mounted it on the H9A. Very pleased with the accuracy at 10 meters in our basement range. Shot from a rest, 4 pumps.


Once I got in the groove with the trigger, shot this one standing without a rest, so these are quite useable for training and practice purposes.


No powerhouse, to be sure, but these really are great little pump ups for basement shooting and backyard plinking. All metal and wood, too. Well worth the $40 we spent.

The trigger spring trick sure improved the trigger pull on my H9A & Benjamin 137. Thanks for the tip!!

Thread got me to thinking it was time to run some pellets though our H9A, something I do with all our pumps and pneumatics, from time to time, to keep the seals in good shape.

With the trigger lightened, as I posted above, the H9A is a very capable 10 meter shooter. This is with 4 pumps. Shot, this afternoon.

Very nice group Country Gal. After seeing yours I decided to dust mine off give her a spin around the ole block. Tried some Crosman Ultra Magnum for first time. Got 2 fliers and 2 just to the left, I hope I pulled, than a nice group of 6. I did the 1st 5 with 4 pumps and the 2nd 5 with 5 pumps. Why there is red sharpie. Was seeing if there was a difference in elevation at 10m.
    Man, now I remember why I liked just plinking with this at 3pumps and stopped pesting with it. You need to constantly be attentive or ur gonna get a nice blister. Trigger is nice though thank god. Read sight ahhh not so much.

Nice shooting, Rob. I just use RS10s, same as I do for most of my pistol shooting at 10 meters, though I suspect there are better pellets for accuracy if I stretched the distance a bit. When sighting mine in with the Bushnell 1.5x scope, all one hole groups, too. I think the H9A has some real accuracy potential. May just try at 25 yards for kicks.
