FBW 300 /RUNNING BOAR
«

I would like to find some information and pictures of the ""Running Boar" model of the FBW 300. Most particularly I am interested in the design of the loading gate. I think it is a little different than the typical 300/s.
Thanks for looking.sky

I may be confused!! I thought the Running Boar was a FWB 300 configuration but it seems from some recent reading I've done that it is a targeting designation.

RunningBoar is/was a specific shooting discipline involving, you got it, running targets. Guns for it were/are made by FWB,DIANA,Walther, etc. When the Olympics went all p.c. the name change to "RunningTarget" to pacify all the PETA-types. A vintage German RT in good or better condition can bring big bucks.

Google FWB 300S Running Boar
not FBW!!!
A whole series of images comes up. Don't know if you will find what you exactly want but there are some really pretty pictures. Below is a url mess to the site. Network54 where there is a section on FWB variations.
This might help you out.

Found this about Running Boar / Target on another site. I don't know if the pictures will come through. I'll post this then see. If not, I'll back up to the url. You should be able to see pictures. Scroll down in the post to see the Running Boar discussion copied below.
Hope this is helpful.
Here it is:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/thread/1354312414/FWB+300+S+variations
Running Target (Running Boar before it was politically corrected) rifles are highly sought after by some. They were produced in very low numbers for a highly specialized game. To learn more about the rifles and the game, check out these posts...

RT rifles are also great for scoped target shooting. As an example, in 1984, Peter Capstick wrote about the value of the 300 S RT for Minisniping. Read his article about the new game here...
http://www.minisniping.org/
The 300 S RT likely has the highest production numbers of the different running target air rifles (its believed that perhaps less than 100 respectively Diana 75 K and Anschutz 380 RTs were produced; perhaps less than 50 Walther LGR RTs). The 300 S RT was produced in 4 different versions. All of the 300 S RT actions have a pellet loading port that is offset to the right, a muzzle weight that has no provision for a front sight, and a single stage, "snap", trigger. Note that the 2 stage trigger parts from standard 300 S models can be retrofitted to a 300 S RT.
The gen 1 300 S RT looks like this...

[linked image]
What, no thumbhole?!? While the 300 S RT thumbhole is the most well known of the 300 S RTs, 3 of the 4 versions are non-thumbholes. This version is shown in Beeman catalogs 5 and 6. Later catalogs show the thumbhole version.
Here you can see how the 1st version of the RT evolved from the standard 300 S. The 300 S shown was being refinished when the photo was taken.

The "Running Boar" rifles were a particular company's target rifles specially modified, usually the stock, for "Running Boar" competition. The FWB 300S Running Boar differed from the standard 300S in that it had a thumbhole adjustable stock ( butt plate and cheek riser), had no open sights, was intended to be scoped, and had a muzzel weight at the end of the barrel. Its designation was FWB F300S RBTH. It was available from Beeman in the 80s and in 1985 sold for . . . $698.00, or, in 2014 dollars $1511.66.

G'day all,
Of course other companies built Running Target match rifles, e.g. Anschutz.
Attached photos of an un-fired Anschutz 380 RT [still in its original box] that I will be collecting from a dealer on Saturday next. The rail for the telescopic sight is clearly visible above the trigger. Mike Driskill informed me that such rifles are quite rare and, in the hands of the right person, deadly accurate.

That sounds like quite a find!!
I have a FWB300SU that was well used but extraordinarily accurate. It is most unusual to shoot other than a one-hole 5 shot group with it at 50-75 ft. At 10m it's hard to tell if it were more than one shot! If I shoot a bigger group, it is clearly my error!!!

Hi Dave,
Yes, it was a lucky find - I was enquiring about another old Anschutz target rifle when the dealer said he had several other rifles "out the back and still boxed"! He bought them from another dealer who was going out of business and had about 150 air rifles stored under his house!
If I cannot make a decent group with this Anschutz, then I will be greatly embarrassed!

Hi Meann-Machine,
Actually the dealer had another Anschutz 380 RT in used condition plus two used Gamo match rifles - each for sale @ $A400.00. [I also bought a Walther LG 90 in its original carrying case with all factory fittings from him.]
Locally a dealer has
new
left hand LG 380 [$A1200.00] and a right hand LG380 [$A1300]:
http://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/28058/new_anschutz_model_lg_match_380_left_hand_177_target_air_rifle.html
You can get to the dealer's Internet address and look up used guns - Anschutz to find the other LG380 @ $A1300.00
And, a Gecado [Diana] 60 for $A600.00 at the same dealer:
http://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/8837/secondhand_gecado_model_60_177_target_air_rifle.html
Then there is this:
http://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/30436/anschutz_2001_super_air.html
- another more recent Anschutz at $A900.00 in another state [Queensland].
Unfortunately I have set my limit at 9 rifles so the Gecado/Diana 60 will have to go to some other lucky shooter.
I have attached some photos of the old Anschutz 380 I mentioned above plus one of my Walther LG 90 in its travel case/box.
I have been very lucky,
Jim.

Meann-Machine & NTSOG
I got my FWB300SU from an English shooter that my daughter knows. He was able to ship it to me from the UK to the Chicago area with relative ease.
HOWEVER: it got a lot of attention from the US Post Office and Postal Inspectors. He shipped it under Royal Mail Security seal -whatever that actually means?? He worked in security at Heathrow. It was hand delivered by my mailman less than 36 hours after it was shipped from London to Chicago. Since it was shipped in a regular rifle case covered with match stickers, it wasn't too subtle! Waiting in the wings were a couple FBI or Postal Inspectors just in case my mailman reported that it was a powder rifle not an air rifle!! My mailman expressed interest in seeing it as he had shot for the Pakistani Army team (at least that's what he said!) I showed it to him, the Postal Inspectors disappeared and all was well.
This tale is told as a caution about shipping air rifles internationally. I don't know what Australian Rules Mail is like but I am pretty sure it would attract attention from the US Postal and Homeland Security folks!!

Hi Dave,
I am certain any international purchasing is increasingly fraught with difficulty due to terrorism and the real concerns governments have. The restrictions on sale and purchasing of any firearm in Australia are already strict - only registered firearms dealers can directly sell guns and even private sales must be through a registered dealer. However there is still legitimate international trade, but using the mail service for firearms locally is not acceptable. Freight services/shipping companies are used, e.g. like UPS. As your case suggests if a rifle is of value to the prospective purchaser there is always a legitimate avenue to secure it. as my earlier post indicates there are some beautiful air rifles available over here and I cannot buy them all - more's the pity!

Thanks for the clarification! One of my rifle clubs here, hosts shooters from Australia who participate in the US National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio each year. They cannot even bring target rifles to use. Members of my club LOAN them rifles to use in competition. Last year, one of them scored in the top 10 of all shooters in his category (out of hundreds.) I don't know them but do read about their exploits in the club newsletter.
I forgot to mention that the guy I bought the rifle from had put blue painters tape all over the case with statements that it was NOT a firearm.... I think the main problem was the lack of a box over the plastic gun case.
At one point, I thought to contact him about availability of other high quality air rifles (used but not abused) with the idea of buying a bunch for resale here at hopefully a profit. Then I took a nap and figured out that I didn't know enough about the air rifle market in either country to drop a fairly large amount of money in speculation.
I visited your fair land about 15 years ago with visits to Cairns, Sydney, and Melbourne to attend an international meeting on Climate Change Science. I was working in the area until I retired a few years ago. My wife came along for the "RIDE" and we made a couple weeks of holiday out of it. I also visited Perth, Brisbane, and nearby areas while visiting BP refineries on other trips. We hope to make a longer, more leisurely visit sometime soon.
Cheers & G'Day!
