Any reason to order from a vendor other than crosman

I have a 2240 that I want to add a steel breech kit and a longer barrel. I think a 14" barrel is too long for my taste. A 12" barrel would be my upper limit. I think I'd prefer a 10" barrel. I see a lot of vendors offering barrels in the 10" and 12" lengths, but they are asking more than I think they're worth. I am under the impression that I can order a 1322 barrel, part number 1322-064, directly from crosman and have a 10" barrel for about $16. I think that is a reasonable price. Is there any benefit to ordering a 10" barrel from another vendor? I don't really care about the finish, I just want 10" and I want it to be accurate. I also don't care about a front sight or anything else on the end of the barrel.

also, is there any real benefit to getting a breech made by someone other than crosman? I don't really want a rear sight at all on the breech, and the weight of an aluminum vs steel breech makes no difference to me. An extra screw holding the barrel seems unnecessary for a 10" barrel, but I could be wrong.

any advice will be appreciated.

Im with you on that brother. Crosman charges a flat fee and cheap parts. If its a stock part just order from Crosman. Unless its a real custom part like grip and pump handle made from wood. A working shroud or muzzle break. Flat top valve and piston.
   My 1322 i put a 12" barrel from Mellon Air. His barrel prices are actually quite cheap. I got the 2240 down the road and installed the 10" barrel that was on the 1322. Now, i cant say the Mellon Air one is more accurate than the Crosman one. The cost of the barrel? 30. Do i feel like i got ripped off? No. Do i feel like it was worth it? Not really. Only did it so i had some exposed barrel pass the barrel band so i could put my shroud on from ACcustom. The barrel came dirty as can be i went through maybe 40 patches? I must have spent 20-30 mins getting the burrs. The amount of time wasted doing another mans work? Priceless.

Most of my purchases for upgrades have been from different vendors and Ebay. If you go all out customizing you may have to look at other vendors to purchase the parts that you need. It just depends on how much you want to spend on your mods. For stock parts, Crosman is your best bet.

 I recently rebuilt a 1377 and most of the parts came from Alchemy Airwerks.  As far as the cost goes for me upgrading, it was worth it. I stayed with AA because I could get everything I needed in one place and have it shipped all together, plus David has excellent customer service. The barrel was nicely crowned and clean, he matched my forearm and grips, plus he ships to PO Boxes. My scope was purchased off of Ebay and no problems.

Yep, Kris is right on. For stock replacement parts you can't beat Crosman. But, if you are customizing and personalizing then vendors like Davio and Alexjandro are some of the best in the bussines. I like dealing with these two guys mainly because they don't have near the backlog as some of the others.

For parts I go with whoever has the best deal, factoring in shipping too.
For guns, Crosman has the irritating habit of requiring an adult signature for their air guns.  I nearly had one returned once when I simply was not able to be at home during the three days the BBT tried delivering.  Luckily he came early the third day, just before I was leaving.  I have since learned I can 'pre-sign' the back of the first delivery attempt notice and he will leave the package.
I did use one vendor for a custom barrel, but found the blue job was sub standard, and it began rusting in this humid Florida air far too easily!   I won't be using him anymore.   
Biggest problem is, it always seems no one vendor ever has all the parts I want to order, so I have to split the ordering between two or three vendors.

I'll order the barrel and breech from crosman then. I need the extended barrel primarily because I have a little elbow piece that sticks out just past the muzzle and I can't help but think that is affecting the accuracy (my groups are no longer round, and are a bit larger). I want some kind of an optic on the gun too, so why not do the steel breech while I'm at it.

edit: I didn't get off work in time to call crosman before they closed for the weekend. It turns out that buying the 2240 (with a 15% discount), the 1322 barrel, and steel breech, I'll end up paying essentially what I would of paid if I ordered the custom shop version. I bought the 2240 about 6 months ago. I think getting the 2240 stock version helped me decide what upgrades I wanted.

I am running the pistol off of a paintball tank, which I use on all of my co2 guns. I'm going to put a cheap hammers red dot on it. Typically whenever I shoot this pistol, I'll shoot 200 pellets. I'll literally shoot cans until they're in about a dozen pieces.

Placed my order with crosman this morning. The barrel was less than $6, the breech was $35, and shipping was $4. The parts are shipped from different warehouses, but I only paid one shipping fee. I think I was charged tax, the total came to $45.

I bought the 2240 for just under $60 (15% discount + shipping). I paid about $30 for the dummy co2 and connectors. I already had the paintball tanks. Bought an NC star reflex sight for $25. That brings me to a grand total of $160. If I had ordered a 2300kt from the custom shop, I would of spent almost exactly the same amount of money.

I did a transfer port mod and am going to make a flow through probe. I'm hoping this will get me 500fps without doing any valve work so I can keep my shot count high. 8fpe will do all I need this pistol to do.

   When I go to the Crosman website and put the steel breech in my cart, then did the step to give me a shipping price, it was crazy high. Like $65-$85 depending on 2 or 3 day. Granted, I live near Hilo, Hawaii, but, the Post Office does have an option of sending stuff to Hawaii via a barge. It takes a long time, but shipping is reasonable. Fot that reason, I ordered the steel breech kit through Amazon, and the shiipping was like $5.00. Many items through Amazon are with free shipping.

I am a little new around here, I been following along I agree Crosman is the way to go.  I am currently in the process of converting a Gamo Silent Cat from spring to a Nitro piston.  The Guys at Pyramid Air do this conversion, however the cost is around 139.00 and you have to ship your gun to them, they don't just make up a kit they can send you, so by the time you ship your gun you are looking at close to another 30.00 to 40.00, I really ain't that fond of this gamo. I could buy a Benjamin or crosman with the Nitro Piston in it for that.  However after some serious research tearing down and measuring I figured I could handle the conversion.  So I called Crossman ordered the nitro piston, piston, piston seal, nitro piston backing guide, and shims. It all cost me 50.00, and having to wait a couple weeks because the Nitro piston I ordered was on back order, shipping was flat 4.00, all they require is the parts number.
That brings me to a question I have I am considering building a 1377 myself, but they make it clear that you can't order custom shop pieces without ordering a gun, the way around that is having the parts numbers, so does anyone have the parts number for the long steel breach?

I have read others comments on custom shop ordering, and it seems that whenever you order a custom gun you become an "elite" customer. I think they save your name and info in their computer. I have read several times where people who were an elite customer order parts for other people. So I don't think it is as simple as just giving them a number or a certain name. Long story short, kindly ask around and see if an elite customer can help you out.
