Here is me on my 'bucket and sticks', you can see I had to cut the bucket down to fit so my arms rest on my legs:





I found the plan for the sticks on the internet and made them. So far the system is working well for Hunter FT. Shot my first shoot last Saturday.

A 3 gallon bucket is about the  right height if you're a generously over weight 5 foot 8

Yeah, I have a bucket or two I can cut down, and I just ordered a swivel seat.  Good point about sizing the bucket so you can rest both elbows on your knees.  This could actually allow me to tame the shakes and hit a target or two.

 I have a question in your avatar sitting on the ground your back is upright, but when you are using a bucket and sticks your hunched over.  it seems every picture of shooters using sticks and bucket are hunched over, which for me is uncomfortable I try to keep my back upright while using bucket and sticks.  I guess for me that's how I shot off hand in my younger years keeping my shoulders straight and back upright.

EACH class ( Open ) & ( Hunter ) allow different shooting aids or lack of 

In Open class where we are NOT allowed bipods or any direct ground support via a devise .... your own legs / knee become your rest if shooting from a seated position.  In getting Knees up enough to rest upon them body position more / less ends up as shown.
* Open is OPEN and position you shoot from has many possibilities .... tho most stable are what you see most doing if not prone 

On a seat / bucket with bipod to get YOUR BODY locked in using as many connected point of contact possible the slumped forward with elbows on knees and hands locking each hold position is a VERY STABLE way of doing it.
* Again there is much leeway to get the same results with the most stable being the most popular.

Physical limitations and body type GREATLY EFFECT all shooters in all classes with no one way fitting all folks
End of the day all one can strive for is finding a means of sitting, holding rifle THAT BEST STABILIZES the sight picture when on target ... REMAINS stable if inclination changes are present on the course making you adjust position and allows you to FIGHT WIND buffeting your body !!!

* Whatever you do .... DO IT THE SAME EVERY LANE & EVERY SHOT.
Screwing around with technique, hold, seating etc lane to lane & day to day WILL SCREW YOU UP !!

For MY HFT setup I prefer to be a low to the ground as comfortably possible and still get my elbows on my knees when the gun is on the cross sticks. Even as low as I sit I still have wind moving me on the bucket!

Anywhoo.....rather than use an unmodified bucket with tall cross sticks I'd rather use a shorter bucket with shorter cross stick extension.  LOL....at the THAGC club Chris likes to put a couple targets high in the trees so I "hafta" extend my cross sticks and shoot with no "elbows in the knees" support but it's all part of the enjoyment of the game!
