At the limits

Did it happen to anyone here to face a significant misalignment between the dovetail on a receiver and the barrel ?
I've been trying to zero a cheap scope I had put on my no less cheap MSP rifle, in vain. I mean : I know the big lines of the theory but, to say it short, if I happened to find a zero at 20 yards, I had to push the windage setting close to its left limits. This, after I had cautiously and appropriately put small pieces of radiography paper between the rings and the scope to compensate this misalignment, following an expert's advice.
So I myself am to the limits. Thought this afternoon I could overcome them and throw that scope in the trashbin... but I eventually chose takin'it off and putting the Soviet rear sight I had bought, back on the rail. Then I tried shooting again and cursed a little bit too much : yes, past 60 y, scopes may be usefull, darn it. 
Well, do anyone of you can give me any useful advice to actually compensate an excessive misalignment between the dovetail and barrel axis ? Without drilling or sawing anything out of my poor rifle or my cheapo scope, of course.
I noticed 492 posts on the "Scope etc."  topic and of course, though I used the "search" tool, I surely didn't read them all. So I do apologize if it's a dumb and solved question.

There are several adjustable mounts on the market. Try to get one of these, mechanically center your reticle, then adjust the mount as close as possible to center impact point to aim point.

It may not be the dovetail. You might want to check to see if the AO or magnification setting is throwing you off. I
had a couple of scopes that when changing the AO, would cause the POI to move by over 1.5" at 10 yards. Another
scope caused the POI to change by about an inch when going from 12X to 6X at 10 yards. Something else to look at.

't wasn't the dovetail but me... I'm not gonna tell you what I was doing wrong 'cause it was shamefully obvious.

Well, these last days I enjoyed teaching my granddaughter to count till TEN. Next time it'll be till 462. Guess why .

Ok, ok, you want to see me drinking that bitter cup to the dregs, uh ?

Well I got wrong twice. The first time, as the rifle kept shooting  to the right although I had adjusted the windage knob to its left limit, I carefully and conscientiously put a piece of radiography paper between the right side of the scope and the front collar, and between the left  side and the rear collar. And you know what It kept shooting more and more to the left ! Surprising, ain'it ?  But last night, I suddenly shouted something I can't write down here so my wife asked me "-Did you have a nightmare ? - Kinduv", I answered...

Then, today I corrected my mistake and put the radio paper pieces on the proper sides and began the zeroing procedure again. It's a boring thing for someone that hasn't been playing hide and seek for  more than 50 years... Was boring at that time, too, if I can remember. So in order to avoid anymore mistakes, I decided to count the windage clicks till a hundred, then count again and finally add everything. But when at 100, I decided it might be better to do hold it and begin the same procedure with the elevation knob. Don't ask me why I finished the "mechanical zeroing" for elevation and went back to the windage stuff but just forgot I had counted a hundred clicks before...

I certainly won't tell you what followed, not only because I might be exposed to censorship but because I love that forum and some children could read what I said.

Oh, and speaking about children, I remember the manual said "not a toy, don't let children play with it". Heck, how did they know ?

By the way, I can group decently, now. But there's no knob I could use to improve my own marksmanship, unfortunately
