Benjamin Marauder .25 vs Hatsan at44(not long)quiet energy .25

I'm buying one of these 2 air rifles.  Would appreciate anyone with experience with these two newer versions to throw me some input.  I mostly take out feral pigeons.

  Marauder Gen 2 .25 Mine will do 3/4"  to 1 1/2" groups at ~50 yards. Since I am old and slow your results may be better or worse

There will be plenty of ppl to chime in. I do not have the AT44 in .25 I have the BT65 in .25 you know what they say, seeing is believing. Hatsans are very good shooting rifles.

Both good value PCP's.  Do a search.  There has been a number of threads on the subject, that explain some of the differences.  Mostly you will find people, like me, who have one, with a perception of the other.  A few people who have had both.

You're asking about stock, right out of the box and with no money spent on modifications or tuning ?

I sold my Synrod in .22 and replaced with a Synthetic stock Galatian QE in .22. Never owned a .25 in either. I'm no expert by any means but here's a comparison of the two that I own/have owned, my opinion:

    Simple tuning .... Marauder easier but Galatian doable with a little effort
    Backyard friendly.... Marauder quieter
    Stock.... Galatian hands down better IMO
    Accuracy.... Galatian out of the box is a shooter(.25 Marauder barrels a supposed to be much better than the .22)
    Magazines.... I like the Hatsan's better
    Trigger.... Galatian
    Weight.... Marauder
    Overall feel.... for me the Galation
    Ease of cleaning.... Galation
    Ease of disassembly.... Haven't taken the Galatian completely apart yet but the Marauder was fairly easy for a beginner
    Customer service.... Crosman was very good to deal with on 2 warranty issues I had. No issues with the Galatian yet.

The AT44 and the Galatian do have some similar traits.... Side lever, anti-double feed(love this feature, did it a few times on the Synrod),auto safety, integrated rail, adjustable recoil pad, Weaver/ Picatinny accessory rail and sling(junk).

The Hatsan is a keeper for me. Hope this helped

I think the at44 QE is the better gun unless you really want the ability to easily tune the gun.

The at44 qe is gonna have more power in stock form, probably maintaining it over more shots than an Mrod.

I also think efficiency wise the at44 qe does better at reducing noise (most fully shrouded guns still seem to have a bit of a crack to the sound of the gun when getting shot, or are above 100db If they shoot around 30 FPE, whereas the at44 qe shoots under 93 db in .22)

the at44 qe also has more to offer for features if you don't plan on tuning the gun

Anti-double feed system, anti-knock system  (prevents wasted gas if the gun gets bumped), smooth operating sidelever

Just an amazing gun that doesn't get as much attention or forum sales as the Mrod because its the newer choice and not as well known.

I have had both in .25 but my Hatsan was not the QE and it was the long model. the biggest difference between these two specifically that you asked about would be the action and power. The Mrod is of course a bolt and the Hatsan is a side lever. Both work so it boils down to preference if any between the two styles. The Mrod does not have an anti double load but Hatsan does. Both are heavy so no difference. Accuracy I would put at the same based on my two rifles that I owned. I will say that I had to put a little work into my Hatsan's polishing them up to get their accuracy on par and consistent. It was an easy job to do so nothing over complicated or time consuming. The Mrod will have a big advantage over the Hatsan short in power when you compare them in .25. My Hatsan long .25 had exactly the same power output as my Mrod .25 in stock form so the short will fall short of the Mrod Both work and have similar build quality so in my opinion the decision comes down to which one has the most features you like or which one has the better price going when you buy.

Went with the Hatsan.  My reasons may not be your reasons, have no idea what is important to you and what isn’t and each has features that might be important to you that I could care less about.

Didn’t go with the QE model as I like having the quick option of “quiet” and “don’t care”. In some situations, it’s better to make a little noise to NOT draw unwanted attention.

Not deal-breaking, but prefer the Weaver type mount, the side lever action, back-up iron sights, and the detachable air cylinder. (M-Rod should wind the shot-shot-contest: simple enough, 20% more air should equal 20% more good shots).  Can easily double your shots for the price of a spare air cylinder (standard length about $100) that is more easily carried than a pump or pony tank.

Down side?

M-Rod is easier to tune. With the adjustments supplied, can eventually dial it in with patience and Allen wrenches.

Sure…at the same power level a M-Rod (215cc’s) will get more shot than a short Hatsan (180cc’s).  The shroud system of the M-rod CAN be more effective than the QE (or an add on LDC), but it’s kind of nit-picking as either can be quiet enough.

M_rod trigger is better, and if I were just shooting targets from a bench, it would be more important.

Might have to make a loading platform, but the M-Rod is more user friendly for single shot loading.  I really prefer this in testing, but it may not be too important once testing is over.

BUT, I do have to say, that I seldom think of pigions and .25.  Bigger than most pest birds, are still  hollow boned, lightly built critters.  Will normally reach for a smaller caliber than .25; not that a .25 won’t work (so will a .45).

Many of Hatsan's PCP parts are available.
Oddly enough though, I haven't heard of many persons requiring replacement parts for the AT44. And those that I did hear of only needed like o-rings. The AT platform is generally speaking a workhorse AG. So is the Mrod. One advantage I can see for the AT over the Mrod is that the AT (actually all Hatsan PCPs) seem to have a serious preference for the heavier weights of ammo & shoot them very well.
Whichever one you opt for, just remember to take the time to shoot it & learn your guns preferences & capabilities, as well as your own. They're both fine guns, & either would fit the bill for what you plan to do.


But if were to give my personal opinion, I'd say get the AT44

I have a Gen 2 that is stock, no mods. very back yard friendly, very accurate, and does have an optional single shot tray for longer pellets and slugs, also cut down on the double loading the magazine can cause.  The heaviest slug I have shot in it is the Mr. Hollowpoint's 73gr. This rifle is a keeper for me. I purchased mine from LG Outdoors. Parts are available through Crosman. There is a wide selection of aftermarket parts for it as well.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I've just noticed on the Hatsan website that they have a new version of the At44 QE.  It has an adjustable cheek piece and pistol grip.  That sealed the deal for me. As soon as Pyramyd air starts carrying the new version, I'm going with that.
