The B-12/XS-12 is a fine little rifle and Mike can tweet them in at a very good price. If you want to step up in quality over the Chinese rifle and the Diana, go with the HW30. I bought mine in .20 caliber and couldn't be any happier with that choice. They are very neat little guns and now that Weihrauch has addressed the cocking arm issue, the choice is almost a no brainer. Well worth the money and you won't be disappointed. If the wife shoots it some, she may take over the ownership of it They are that fun to shoot.

Another vote for the X5.  I can't tell you for sure if it has zero hold sensitivity, but it is definitely easy enough to shoot that I can hit a 1.5" spinner at 30 yards holding it tight as i can, and also dead soft with the artillery hold, without changing my point of aim.  Pretty good for a breakbarrel.

Thanks - hopefully it looks as good in person. Seller said I would be impressed with condition. Serial # indicated 1993/1994. Said his Mom had bought it. She asked for the best squirrel gun they had and this is what they sold her. She got it home and couldn't cock it. She just put it away. Mom is in here 70's now and son was cleaning out house to sell and found this. Said he shot 5 pellets out of it just to be sure it worked.

I definitely support the idea of simply looking for a good used R7 or HW 30S.

Speaking as a guy who owns 50+ airguns of which exactly 1 was bought new, if you are armed with a modicum of fore-knowledge, I can assure you there is nothing to fear in that approach!

And if you don't need the power of the Diana 34, sell or trade it to get the funds.  Almost all of us here have had the experience of finding out that our first airgun may not have been the right all-round choice for us.

Why not play with something completely different. As another suggested, the izh 60/61 or daisy 953. Both are light, easy cocking, accurate, cheap. As far as convincing the wife of anything, you're on your own. Maybe there is a different forum for that. Good luck and safe shooting.

Some men.  Convince the wife? Just walk in to the kitchen and tell her how it is. You are the KING of this castle and you will do what you want to do. If you want an R7 get one, no need for a copy, get the real McCoy. Life will be so much easier when a man does what a man should do.
