I agree, if your HP pin goes past the back of the Ogive, into where the driving bands are, the bullet tends to disintegrate....

I wouldn't mind having a HP with explosive properties for the varmints around here. Bullets that blow up tend to stop coon size FAST!!!
If, and this is a big if, we can have accuracy as well. I wonder how the multi-sided HP's that Eric offers would fare in this regard.

Knife, RJ has that same mold that i do with 3 different HP pins for it. 1 short one, 1 EXACTLY LIKE MINE that you have and the 3rd one is DEEP.
Ask him for a sample of the DEEP ones.
Try also shooting that knarly coon with those bullets of mine. They've been known to drop a yote or 2.......lol! And expansion is most impressive.
Oh yeah, what have you shot with those HPS of mine beside paper dude. You need to test them puppies on somethin else beside targets.......lol!

LOL!!! I saw a tasty squirrel that was destined for a pot of dumplings the other day, and hit him with one of the NOE hp's. I shot for the head, but he was a little further out than I thought.
Well, long story short, the bottom half of the Squirrel was tasty!!!
LOL
