My new to me HW95 .22cal

To those of you who do not know, I recently obtained a HW95 in .22cal from a member here. I'm the 3rd owner. Now I already have a RX2 in .20 cal but I think that the RX has spoiled me. My reason for this assumption is that the RX is at least 6 yrs old but cocks just a smooth and quiet as the devil. A solid thunk when the trigger is pulled and a FTS is grouping phenomenally down range. Please keep in mind that before the RX I only owned a npxl and phantom (the phantom was low in power but great in accuracy). I got rid of the phantom, got the xl and have been struggling ever since. Until the RX came along. I did basic lube/tune on the crosmans and not for nothing, it helped out but obviously nothing like the German guns. So my lack of knowledge as to what a "new" German Springer should/should not feel like is unknown to me. So here is the break down of tonight:
Ok so tonight I decided to take the HW95 .22cal out of her stock for a external wipe down (nothing internal) and noticed how clean it looked. I was told by the previous owner (who is the 2nd owner) that he only fired about 50-75 shots and that the 1st owner only shot it 10+ times. Well I have no reason to not believe 2nd owner is lying, he is a great guy, seriously. But my quandary is that I am not all that impressed w/the HW95...so far. Now maybe its because it is new or maybe its because the previous owners mislead me about actual shot count which I doubt, but I opened it up and it looked at her and she is super clean. Not saying that no one can open it up and wipe clean it but it sounds a lil rough and tight when cocking, almost like a semi dry sound with a the smallest sound of squeaking. So here are my questions:
1) The sound/feel, is that normal for a new rifle?
2) How is one to know if said rifle is truly new (not broken in) or not?
3) Options: Not all AG's are in need of a tune, but would you tune or not?
4) If you choose to have said rifle tuned, then who would you recommend
and why?
5) Suggested pellets in .22cal. FYI: I hear that the HW bores run big so
would a 5.53 or larger (if there is larger) be advisable?
6) Scope and mount recommendation. I prefer a BKL mount and I would
like a glass etched, multiple aiming point reticle w/a preferred side focus
but it isn't necessary.
**Oh but one thing is for certain and two things are for sure...When I let a JSB fly to a ice filled 1 liter frozen water bottle at 30yds, it sounds like a hammer. My RX .20cal w/a FTS doesn't even come close to that sound. I am a little hype, because I never had a .22 springer and i am in love w/this caliber.

Congrats on your new rifle.
1- yes this could be normal behaviour. HW was guilty of over lubing at one time and lately it would seem the opposite.
2- for this answer you would have to go on good faith of the seller.
3- I would tune the rifle. It's a personal choice, but in my experience it leads to higher satisfaction.
4- again a personal choice, but if you're mechanically inclined you can do it yourself.
5- testing different types and brands is best. Mine prefers a larger sized FTT.
6- I've had an Acushot one piece mount and Hawke Varmint side focus on mine for quite some time and they've performed very well.
Have fun with it.

Welcome William!!
I have a 98....same action with different clothes.....and with a Vortek kit and tune from Motörhead she is as smooth as oiled glass!! The first kit lasted for 40,000 flawless rounds.
Another member here....Stevemag.....bought the same rifle as you recently....brand new.
That lady was a buzzing, jumping nightmare!!!
He had a Vortek kit installed and it is a completely different gun!!
JMO......but I would tune it bro.
My 98 is on her second kit. She has around 50,000 down the chute now and is better than ever!
Cocking stroke is absolutely silent with a healthy 'scrunch' at lock up!!
The other option is to shoot the snot out of it and she might smooth out over time.
Good luck and let us know what you decide!
PS.....I swear by Scott, Motörhead, for tuning my rifles.....but John in PA is recommended highly and will save you some cash on shipping.

My 95 .22 NIB was not a pleasant cocking unit out of the box and harsh to shoot. I finally tore it down and found a bad piston seal. Long and short I figured what the heck and did my own tune using JM parts and lubes. Totally different gun after. Still a snap / crack on firing but smooth as glass to cock and laser accurate now. No spring noise at all.
I did the tune myself.....probably wrong but I digress.
. At any rate I suggest a tear down and lube tune.
All my airguns including this one love H&N Field Target Trophy
Mine is not scoped. I am running receiver peep sight. I am however super happy with The Nikon Prostaff 3-9 EFR for rimfire and airguns on 2 other rifles. I have a third coming.
This thread may help. It is my adventure.
