Sacramento Valley Field Target Championship Results Nov 9, 2014

The November match of the Sacramento Valley Field Target Club was the last match of the 2014 season. We decided to end the year with a Championship Match including awards, some raffle prizes and a nice lunch. We even held an informal 28 shot pistol match at the request of several of the shooters. It turned out to be a really fun day on a course that ended up being a lot harder than it first appeared.
We were blessed with near perfect conditions for the match, sunny mild winds and highs in the mid 70's. The beautiful weather brought out a great contingent of FT shooters as 23 people showed up to battle the little steel critters scattered about the grounds. The winds kicked up just enough near the end of the match to make it very interesting.
Because of the large number of Hunter PCP shooters we created a hybrid open class to give more shooters a chance for awards RizM and I volunteered to move from the Hunter Class to Open Class. In order to help level the playing field we had the Open Class shooters range as normal but actually shoot the targets at 10-12x power. As you can see in the results we still couldn't catch the Open boys. We had two really close classes with 1 point separating the top 2 Open shooters and 4 Hunter PCP shooters finishing within one point of each other. The shoot off for 2nd and 3rd place Hunter PCP lasted so long that the final 2 shooters decided to end the match with a coin flip The Hunter Piston Class was won by MarkW who has really dominated the class when ever he can make a match. And finally JimP shot his best match of the year to take the Open Piston class win.
We had 10 shooters compete in the pistol match and somehow the score sheets disappeared before the results got tallied. As best as could be reconstructed from memory KevinY won the match buy a large margin shooting prone, with RizM beating me by one shot for second place. We had a lot of fun but it was evident that none of us had shot pistol FT in a while.
As we look back on our first season of shooing field target at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center we can smile at what was a terrific year. We have a wonderful core group of shooters who are great people to associate with and are more than willing to pitch in and help set up and tear down the matches. I asked each of the shooters present on Sunday to make it their goal to bring one new shooter to a match next season and see if we can grow our ranks next year. I would like to thank every who participated this season and a special thanks to the many of you who contributed a great deal of time and effort to make each match a success, and a special thank you to JackC who has contributed the great photos the last 2 matches.
Until next spring, have a great winter and holiday season.

In spite of what the following picture shows we do not discriminate against pistol shooters

Thank you Jim C
.... if not for your leadership and commitment to the dream of a legitimate & serious FT venue in the Sacramento area it all would be for not.
Absolute GREAT bunch of guys came out and played "Kill the steel" this 2014 season. With the way this season grew in participation, those who came an watched, growth with more shooters in 2015 should be better yet !!!
To ALL whom came out to IONE in 2014 ... THANK YOU

Overall we had a great season. The times I attended it was great to see old faces as well as new shooters each time. A HUGE thanks to Jim, Scott, Rick and others for their time setting up and organizing these events for the rest of us.
I'm already looking forward to next season!

My son Matthew and I made 4 events after discovering FT in the middle of the season. Thank you Jim and everyone else for organizing and supporting these events. I had no idea FT even existed until buying a Marauder rifle and reading stuff on the Net. I thought the M-rod would be good for practice in the back yard when the local range was closed, but it turns out there is much more to do with an air rifle, even in CA!
I'm going to try to attend every shoot next season, with Matthew if possible. It's like golf, just a tiny bit less frustrating and a little bit more Zen

My work schedule made it so I wasn't able to make it out at all this year... but I'll see if I can get that changed for next year. I really want to come out and shoot with you guys, it looks like a lot of fun.
Good job, all!
