Help, 4500 PSI tank leaking....

Hey everyone,

so last month at a funshoot here in NJ my Ninja 4500 psi tank with the 3K regulator burst the 5K burst disk when it was connected improperly to a Shoebox compressor to be refilled.  So, today I replaced the burst disk, and now I find out it also leaks on the main fill adapter valve.  I'm wondering, since the flow of air was reversed going into the tank from fill whip, if a rubber washer got smushed down in the regulator assembly, and now the valve pin has nothing to compress against.

Tells you right in the manual not to fill it that way.  Might want to get a regulator rebuild kit and rebuild it

Well thanks, but I never received the manual (2nd owner) and had never filled it.  I'll look into the rebuild kit.

So, I opened the regulator up.  It appears the ball valve is stuck down inside the piston. 
Any thoughts on how to get it out?

I dont think that would get you the 3k psi output.  Thats for paintball marker.  Check Ninja paintball webpage for the right part number

Maybe some light taps with a wooden dowel?  But not 100% sure.  Might want to get a second opinion

Yes, what happened is it was connected to a Shoebox compressor on the fill station side.  At some point a few minutes in, the 5k disk burst.  I think the sudden release of air flowing in the reverse direction pushed the ball into the spring.  So now, obviously, the tank cant be filled as the air just leaks out.  Is it possible to just get another ball and spring?

Thanks for the help over the phone Ray, my rebuild kit arrived today, so I decided to open it up and give your suggestion a try.  But, what I found upon opening it, that my idea from earlier, (taking it to the local paintball field to see if applying 4kPSI to the proper side would push the ball out) did indeed work and the ball and spring were dislodged.  I thought it didn't work because it was still leaking when the clerk hit it with pressure.  The issue I learned today upon opening it was that while the spring and ball were no longer lodged in the piston, the ball was still stuck inside the spring.  I gently removed it from the spring and put it all back together.  Unfortunately I don't have a HP air source to try it, so I just hooked it to my Benjamin hand pump.  It leaks slowly with just a few PSI in it.  Is that normal, do these things require a few hundred PSI or more for the ball to make a good seal?  Maybe the bushing in the apron needs to be replaced?

glad you got the ball out and the spring is still good!

as far as the leak you are correct, needs 500 psi to 1000 to make sure it seals up properly.

Ok, Guess I'll have to wait till this weekend to get out to a paintball field and get it filled to see what happens.
