why can' t I charge my Disco with HAP, but hand pump?

hi all, I recently purchase both a 3000 psi HPA tank and  hand pump. Frist, I refilled HPA up to 3000 psi, filled my Disco successfully, only ounce just for testing then stored the tank away for 6 months waiting for my hunting trip. Then, I started to use a hand pump ever since for target shooting. Recently, I switched back to HPA tank, but it stops pumping. when I open a valve, I can hear the air passes through a hope, but it does not pump a rifle. I rechecked the HPA tank. it sill has almost 3000 psi. But, I switched back to a hand pump, I am able to refill my Disco again. I have repeated steps back and forth several times, and only the hand pump works. I went to a scuba shop. they replaced an HPA nozzle. I took it home, and still not working.

1- can this be a problem on my Disco' s nipple that only takes a hand pump?
2- should I oil the rifle' s nipple?

The other question, is what pressure is your disco showing on the gauge?

The valve in the guns nipple opens because the pressure from the bottle (or pump) is greater than pressure in the tube of the rifle.
Not because of something that sticks in and opens the valve.

Do NOT OIL the nipple.
(Certain types of oils and high pressure air does not go together)

When you are pumping with the hand pump, what does the gauge on the pump show when your fill valve on the gun opens?

As I am pumping I go slower as I approach the pressure the gun is at, if the gun is 1500 psi, the hand pump gauge will go to about 1550-1600, (I hear a audible click as the valve opens) then the pump gauge drops back to 1500 as the tube/hose pressure equalize.

I email John at JDSairman, and he suggested change necessary part of a regulator. That was not clear. So, I took the tank to http://extremepaintball.net/ . they changed a regulator to a Ninja brand. Now, I can charge my Disco, but I can only charge it up to 1000 PSI. To complete 2000 PSI, I still use a Benjamin hand pump.

this is why I got JDSairman. back last NOV I spent 3 months on line and called around trying to get a 3000-4500 psi Ninja tank. Every place sold out.

anyway! what else can I do? should I just forget every thing and go ahead and order a set of Ninja tank and its regulator?  thx

- on my Disco' s gauge, it now shows 1000 PSI after I pump up with JDSairman HPA tank. and, no matter how many I tried to pump, I can never get pass 1000 PSI. I always have to complete 2000 psi pump with a hand pump.


When you are pumping with the hand pump, what does the gauge on the pump show when your fill valve on the gun opens?
-  using a hand pump, a pressure gauge on both pump and my Disco show the same pressure. for examply, from 1000 psi, I give 50 strokes, both pump and rifle stay in synch at 1800 psi. I then completed 65 stokes, both gauges show 2000 psi.

Ok, so we know the gauges on the pump and rifle are working correctly.

That leaves the hpa tank.
It does sound like the tank is regulated.

Does he offer the option to replace your 1000 psi regulator with something closer to the pressure you want to run?

Tony,  it sounds like the paintball shop didn't understand what you needed and put in a standard paintball regulator  set to 1000psi.  You need to get your JDSairman regulator or call Ninja and ask for a 2000 psi regulator.

Even though, before having a defected regulator, that came with JDSAirman replace, I emphasized to a lady at a front desk at local paintball shop in Modesto, CA that I am using the tank for my air rifle that take 2000 psi pressure. I said ok. Now, I lost a receipt. I am just going to order the right regulator from Ninja and install it myself.
-  Do you guys know a link to the 2000 psi regulator?
- is there any precaution I should take for replacing a regulator?

reg removal can be tricky and in some cases regs do not come off.

you can try the tool from hustle paintball - search on their site for reg removal tool

install a reg is much easier and try drozdmax but if you cant find the reg you need let me know.

Tony-- Let me guess.... you went to Extreme Paintball right off Highway 99?  That was one of the first places I tried to get HPA and CO2 when I got into these guns.  I did not get a good impression from them.  I tried to get CO2 fills for my older 9oz tanks (for QB79) and they wouldn't fill them.  The guys working there were young and may be part of the reason they had never seen steel tanks (vs aluminum) or tanks "that old."   They were not receptive to learning about them either.

Andy, yes. you are right! Extreme Paintball. My first visit, I asked to refill my 3000 psi tank. they filled it up with 2000 PSI and they told my that although the tanks say 4500 PSI max, they could only fill it up to 2000 PSI. since I was new to  the whole thing, I swallowed that. took it home and researched and found that they tank is to be filled up with 3000 psi max in put, but 2000 psi output is what I need to refill my Disco which shoot 1000 psi. I took it back to a shop. they reread a label that refilled it with 3000 psi. ok

back to my regulator. I told them that my tank and regulator is to be use with an air rifle that need 2000 psi input pressure. they installed a Ninja paintball regular from their shop. after reading you guys' answer, I just got back from work and took a second look at both old and new installed regulator.  gracious!! label in the old one  said  5 K on one of the twisted in bolt and the other said ," 3 K only". but, when I look at the new regulator, the Ninja, it saids, " 5 K' on the left bolt , and on the right side bolt, it said, " 1.8K  only"

that proves that they did, installed the 1000 psi regulator for me to refill my Disco that takes 2000 psi. no wonder that could never get a refill pass 1000 psi.

tonight, I will release all air out and see if I can remove the 1000 psi. If I can, I will order a 2000 psi output Ninja regulator and install it myself.  please give me a link if you guys know where good deals are. thx

I hate to be right about that place.  It would be so convenient for me if they were a good shop.  The second time I went to that place was to inquire about HPA fills.  FYI they don't do 4500 psi unless you're first in line after they run the compressor (once a week).  So far Aquatic Dreams on Kansas seems to have the best service for air fills. 

Mac1 may carry a 2k regulator,  FYI,  be careful replacing the regulator.  Make sure tank is empty and you have a good grip on the tank.  I replaced a valve on one of my CO2 bottles and the tank slipped a little in the vise.  It scraped up the finish.  Still useable, just ugly.

Let us know how that works out.  I've been hesitant to buy anything from aliexpress because I'm wary of the quality.  That reg does have some good reviews though!  At that price, it's worth trying.

Does anyone know if that regulator would fit a Ninja 98ci 4500 tank?  That would be perfect, I could tether my Disco for all day shooting.

as long as the threads are 5/8-18 unf it will fit but please be careful and make sure the bottle threads are clean and the reg threads are good.
