Yep, your barrel looks just like mine. Any solutions you have found with the issue? I am thinking of contacting Crosman, and seeing if they can take care of both problems at once. Bummer though. I really like the gun, and my son sure enjoys shooting it with me.
Thanks again everyone for chiming in. I did contact Crosman yesterday afternoon, and will let you know what they come up with. I sent the pictures that I included here as a reference. It wouldn't bother me if they just sent out a barrel that was checked prior to shipping. Most likely, I will have to send the whole thing back though. Funny thing is that at around 40 yards, it groups around an inch and a half or so, with the occasional flier. At 80 yards, you can hit a soda can about 7/10 times. It is almost like the 30-40 yard range is the worst, and it kinda straightens out a little beyond that. Unfortunately, 30-40 is where I need it accurate. Hopefully it will become more accurate at all distances with a barrel that has not got a lot of imperfections.
Thanks to all for the suggestions. I have done the soapy water trick with lots of repairs around the house, so I can certainly do it no sweat. There is another thing that I am noticing at the end of the barrel that has got to be effecting accuracy as well. It seems that about 3/8 of an inch into the barrel, there is a ridge through all of the rifling grooves. I would guess that it is a machine mark from producing the rifling. There is a YouTube video explaining exactly what I see. Here is the name if the video: Benjamin Discovery New Barrel Groups 40yrds I tried to grab screen capture below. There is also a picture of my barrel, but it does not show up as clearly. I really think I would rather not cut my barrel and re-crown, but I certainly could if necessary. By the way, I just bought the gun in February.
