What have I got here? I've been searching, but I can't find a name on it... tried the web, can't see an example of it..
Brass/Bronze Visehead: the thumbscrew is chrome plated. Has a guidepin and a feed screw, Neat little devil, just don't know what it was for (sparkless, obviously, but why so small)?
No, I don't want to sell it, I just want to know what it was used for and possibly it's provenance.

I would call that a Jeweler's Vise. It's small so you can get around tiny parts.

I would agree, but why is it bronze? No manufacturer's marks at all. Definitely a sand cast piece of work (you can see the where the drag sprue vents were on the underside of the parts) with a fair number of post-casting operations.

Brass or bronze to be about as hard as the materials to be worked. Also much softer than a gem stone. Makes for less chance of damaging the workpiece.
