Peep on rocker Sheridan, should I or .....

I enjoy using peeps on my HW30, Crosman 766 and 1377.

I am trying to decide to have the reciever of a '71 Blue Streak,
in very nice condition, tapped for the Williams Peep sight.

Would this be considered mutilation or sacriledge on this vintage Sheridan

In my opinion, that is exactly what should be done with them. The various scope solutions seem kludgey and unless you are trying for 40 yd bulls, unnecessary. Just my opinion, but I like the way the Williams look on the Sheridan, and I think they match the spirit of the rifle.

It depends. 
1. its your gun, you are the main shooter, do with it as you please
2. do you ever anticipate selling it?  because it very well may reduce the price.
3. buy another one and have fun chopping it up
4. ok there really isn't a 4 it just sounded fun, but yes... i say go for it!  Just make sure you know where the holes are getting drilled so you don't puncture into an air chamber, or weaken something.

 I'd do it. The peep on my 397 made it 200% more enjoyable. I really don't see it reducing the value of your Sheridan by much if any. In my opinion Benji / Sheridan pumpers should come with the peep sight standard!

A rocker-safety Sheridan in nice condition should, IMHO, be left untouched. Think about this :
1) They are no longer made. 2) They are one of, if not the, nicest looking airguns ever built.
3) Anytime you do permanent modifications on guns, regardless of what they are, most assuredly the value decreases.
I have two of the rocker-safety Sheridans. One is very nice but needs seal replacement. The other is rough in the wood, which I'll probably refinsh, and it holds air indefinitely. Something was spilled on the stock which really uglied it up and I think it will be beneficial if I carefully redo the finish. Otherwise, I would not dare do something to them that could not be undone.
It goes without saying, that we all have different views, because some things are more important than others, varying person to person.
Bottom line is it's your gun and you'll do with it as you see fit. Just be aware that somethings cannot be undone, no matter how well it seems to work.

Don't know if D&T your rifle would be sacrilege, but it could lower the value of the gun if you're interested in the investment potential. Sheridan had the option of a factory installed Williams peep so it's not impossible to add one. As said earlier, it's your gun, your call.
Me personally, when I look through a peep the hole fuzzes over and I can't see a thing. The original rear sight works way better for me. I envy those with good enough eyes to use peeps. I need glass beyond 15 yards anyway. My favorite setup is one of the so-called "kludgy" scope mount systems, a pistol scope mounted ahead of the rear sight.

Did some research today and am finding that the 'vintage' Sheridans and Benjamins are not really selling for more than a new one.  Even tho most claim the older ones are better in many ways.  Unless you have one in collectors minty condition, and mine are not, there will be an awfully long wait for the value to be impacted..
In fact, I would have thought it a bonus if either of my rocker Sheridans, '71 and '75, had been tapped for the sight already, and paid a bit more for that feature.

I bought these for shootin', not to put in a glass case.

Andy, my 57 year ol' eyes are myopic and astigmatized.  We all have to make concessions to the ageing procees, however it attacks us.  

I am finding that the progressive prescription I have for my job (fiber optic splicing) does a pretty good job giving me a decent sight picture with open and peep sights.  My Hawke 2-7x airmax is very nice to shoot with too, but winter indoor at 32' is just too easy with glass, and accurate guns.  Not off-hand, but that is a different challange with glass or iron.

a Williams 64 peep....
